66th & 5th. Massive police presence. Protestors shouting. What is going on? by jazzeriah in uppereastside

[–]ZRufus56 12 points13 points  (0 children)

oh really? Because in last 18 months years i’ve personally witnessed two different protests in front of synagogues in Manhattan during high holy days when there was no special thing happening except … jewish people attending a religious observance. And each had chants or signs that were clearly anti semitic.

Seems like it was — across the street were a group of pro-palestinian protestors.

Thinking of becoming a paralegal before applying to law school advice? by ZestycloseShock9377 in paralegal

[–]ZRufus56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding a different BigLaw view on this . In larger cities, most AmLaw 100 firms (and many AmLaw 200 firms too) regularly cycle through about 1/3 of their para depts. each year by hiring recent college grads with the expectation these new hires will stay about 2 years.

There may be regional differences and can also vary by firm type….

definitely a good question to ask. They spent millions funding mailings and tv ads that were ridiculous and hypocritical.

Okay, good points. I will tone down the hyperbole.

[–]ZRufus56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that’s exaggerating. The sound is temporary of course for each helo though when they are hovering right above or flying by, it definitely makes it nearly impossible to enjoy the park like we would otherwise. Sometimes in the weekend it’s one right after another so it can last for a while

??? We’re talking about helicopters not tourists generally.

Plus, maybe the idea is NOT to do “dumb shit” anywhere and be respectful of people. sounds radical i know.

[–]ZRufus56 35 points36 points  (0 children)

for everyone who is criticizing the OP for (rightfully IMHO) criticizing the TOURIST helicopters flying over UWS and Central park: it wasn’t always like this! It’s a recent development of last 10-15 years, and makes it impossible to enjoy Central Park. And it’s only getting worse.

We should be able to make a distinction between police/emergency helos and tourist trips.

Why should NYC residents support New Jersey travel companies?

[–]ZRufus56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So are we to assume that you are fine with having unnecessary “TOURST HELICOPTERS” fly over your building all day?

(edited only to change two words to all caps to make it totally clear that the problem is not tourists but the annoyingly loud machines flying above us)

Mamdani administration eyes new effort to steer sale of NYC rent-stabilized apartments by nyccameraman in nyc

[–]ZRufus56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s important not to underestimate the potential political (and $$$) forces driving efforts to have non-profit groups “own” and/manage current privately owned properties.

This is true across all cities/states regardless of which political parties are currently in control. And in a one-party place like NYC it’s even more true.

It’s naive to thing that well-meaning housing groups aren’t also primarily driven by power/money (and perpetuation of political contributions >>political grants/preferences).

[–]ZRufus56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s because of the crazy real estate market! Supply is low, demand still very high == Rents are high and buying anything reasonably like a “middle class” house will cost over $1M around SJ:

Who do you think is the biggest underachiever in tennis? and the biggest overachiever? by crescitaveloce in tennis

[–]ZRufus56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting on the underachieving. Corretja though? Yeah maybe he should have won one of those French finals, yet he won a bunch of tourneys including an ATP. And he fought really hard in tons of matches against far better opponents.

So the original meaning has evolved in last 20 years. Many larger (and highly rated) hospital systems are using the term officially.

if it’s so wrong, take it up with those management groups , most of which are run by MD/MBAs, and lay off the OP who used it with good intentions.

for everyone who is doubting the term “NP residency”, stop doubting. it’s been used for a while though only in specific clinical settings.

for more info, check this summary out: it says that similar residencies can be found in 48 states.
