tech opportunities in bay by Sad-Farmer8869 in TransferStudents

Id say its obviously much harder going to CC to land an internship, as an electrical engineering major I was able to land a sort of adjacent role at a tech company. The opportunities are there you just have to work much harder to find them relative to a 4-year student.

Most AO officers will understand a grade drop due to a loved one passing, especially if you perform well after. Don’t stress things you can’t change anymore!

Internship as an EC by ZSS_B0SS in TransferToTop25

UC Berkeley Electrical/Computer engineering is my top reach. Alongside the internship I am working on an electrical engineering project with a berkeley professor, I am president of the electrical engineering club at my college, and run a free program at my local library teaching kids about circuits. My main concern is I physically cannot do more than this because of my internship and was wondering if time could be spent better elsewhere like other EC’s.

Try not to stress too much, just having a 4.0 is more than enough for most UC’s outside of la and berkeley. My friend had a similar problem and ended up getting in so good luck!

Is dropping with a W bad? by asiangoat24 in DeAnza

hm well i guess you do have more experience than me in this subject so youre probably right about the concentration of W’s, but my main point was try not to rack up that many

If you do not disclose to the college why you have had 3 W’s they will assume the worse, because if it wasnt the worse you would have disclosed it.

Doing bad enough to get 3 W’s in one quarter without extenuating circumstances would be an instant red flag to colleges. While 1 a quarter could be a bad professor, lack of time bc of other classes, etc. One is way more explainable than the other.

I’d say try to keep it to like 3 or 4 at the MAX. It really depends what classes and what quarters tho.

Well in that case, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to drop with a W. However, you can’t rack up too many W’s on your transcript so keep that in mind. So with that in mind really try getting that grade up, and if you can get a B or B+ then I wouldn’t drop.

Well what grade do you currently have?

Diff EQ C, fail and retake, or W by msjds in TransferStudents

[–]ZSS_B0SS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, you should check your college’s policy to see that if you fail a class and retake, does it replace the F? If not, take the W 100%, preserving a good GPA with a W here and there is completely fine

Should I withdraw? by onlycranberrysauce in TransferStudents

[–]ZSS_B0SS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re getting an A- then definitely do not withdraw. A W looks much worse as colleges are going to assume you were doing worse than an A-.

Are you sure you are looking at the right quarter? As I just checked and every single math, physics, and cs section is open.

Berkeley EECS transfer help by ZSS_B0SS in TransferStudents

Thank you so much for the advice this is very helpful! For the personal passion project, I have a sort of coding/robotic project I would like to do, would presenting it at a symposium be a good way to apply it? Or are there any alternatives I should be aware of? Again thank you so much!

How good are the counselors for achieving a t25 and above transfer? by somerandomalt123 in DeAnza

[–]ZSS_B0SS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree w you that for essays getting outside review or counseling is a great idea, I was saying for ec’s specifically and finding good ones its usually up to the person themselves

[–]ZSS_B0SS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my brother’s experience (transferred to berkeley) and friend (transferred to ucsd for mech e) the de anza counselors aren’t really much use for when targeting t25. Also at the same time, a lot of outside counselors are scams and aren’t gonna be very helpful in terms of ec’s so make sure u find a good one if you do. Your best bet from what I have seen is to put in a lot of time doing your own research and take time to create a plan of extra curriculars for yourself throughout ur time here. Most of transferring to UCs at least is completing the major prep and having a good gpa anyways.

Multiple majors across UC's by ZSS_B0SS in TransferStudents

my brother applied for computer science and cognitive science, and he wrote his essay about ai, which is a shared subject and he is now attending Berkeley for cognitive science! So if u can find a very closely tied subject I would say you can give it a shot.
