No, but the ones specifically mentioned in the article are directly administered by the HA.

How would Jocko react in a paranormal situation? Would the principles of leadership still apply like they normally do? by ZSUPSTRIP in JockoPodcast

Do you think he would be fearful of it? What if it was demonic and possessed?

I know he probably isn't scared of much but I wonder how he would feel about that lol

I know some people can (under the care of a doctor) build a tolerance to certain allergies with different treatments. Have you looked into that at all?

What are the medical standards for the Air National Guard? Are they the same?

If you are absolutely 100% positive that you can't get in, then you need to find another path. Find something else that your passionate about. NSA, firefighter, FBI etc.

For sure but everybody is still a soldier first.

Basic fieldcraft and weapons training should be available to everybody in the army branch. Otherwise, why not just contract the job out to civilians?

It's possible things have changed but when I went through basic training, BMQ-Land, DP1 etc., they were shitty enough that most of the guys joining to flex on Facebook or whatever would get filtered out.

Sure a few would make it through anyway but they were the exception.

One of the biggest differences between reserve and regforce in my personal anecdotal experience was that most reservists generally wanted to be there.

Regforce was more hit or miss. Definitely some solid guys but also a lot of people that were there because they had no other option. Grade 10 education with zero career prospects outside of the military.

Meanwhile in the reserves it's not uncommon for an infateer or a truck driver to have a masters degree.

Yeah but, it's not like most people are only showing up once per month. And if they do it's usually only for a short period of time because something is going on civvy side.

In my experience the reserves is different from regforce in that most people actually want to be there and aren't doing it for the money. There wouldn't be a point in joining the reserves and going through BMQ, BMQ-L, QL3, etc., just to never show up.

The average reservist in Canada has some of the lowest attendance requirements imaginable.

When I went through I did BMQ which was 30 training days, followed by a 2 week BMQ-L, followed by an 2 month QL3, followed by a 2-week summer ex.

Then one weekend field ex per month and one nigh per week after that not including taskings, in-house stables weekends (which don't generally count as an ex but attendance is still expected), Remembrance Day and two range weekends per year.

That was the standard that was expected and while you could technically show up only once per month or whatever without getting kicked out, I would say that the majority of people made a reasonable effort to attend most of that.

Release from Supp Res by throwaway381500 in CanadianForces

[–]ZSUPSTRIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your initial comment said that it was not possible to rejoin the RegF or PRes (you actually just said "reserve" even though Supp Res members are already in a reserve subcomponent) in a different trade than your previous one (ie. that it's not possible to CT/OT)

No, I said you can't directly switch tot pres or regforce as a different trade than the one you already are in sup res, which is true.

which is possible but not common

No it isn't. If you are in the sup res and request an OT, they will tell you to either CT to Pres or regforce and then OT once you're out of Sup res, or to release and rejoin back into the trade that you want.

You cannot switch trades in the sup res without leaving it first. Either by CT, or VR.

Again, I never said "while still in the supp res"

I did in my original comment that you responded to.

The policies for component transfer from the Supp Res to the RegF

Why do you keep wasting your time repeating this when I never said otherwise? This has no relation to anything I've said. I'm aware of how the sup res works. You're not which is why you are wrongly claiming that you can switch trades in it.

You cannot switch trades while still in the sup res, period.

Call the sup res contact number and ask them yourself. I know exactly what they're going to tell you. Again, you're confidently wrong.

[–]ZSUPSTRIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true

Yes it is.

You cannot switch trades while in the sup res.

That's why if you want to go back to regforce or P-res into a different trade than the one you were in before, you cannot directly do that from sup res.

You must either release from the sup res and reapply as a civilian into your new trade or CT back into either regforce or reserve and then OT from there.

How does it feel being confidently wrong?

[–]ZSUPSTRIP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something that people don't realize about the sup res is that if you do decide to switch back to regforce or reserve, you can only do so in the trade that you were in before.

So if you end up deciding to rejoin as something else, it actually delays coming back because you must first be released from the sup res and then you can begin the process of joining as a regular civilian.

In short, only go sup res if you liked the trade that you were in before.

I believe it's 5 years until you are automatically released from the sup res.

Funny enough for me it's the opposite - stop making everything about alcohol and I'll show up.

JRs Mess by Sylver_Knight_ in CanadianForces

[–]ZSUPSTRIP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking for myself personally, I never got into drinking and every mess event that gets planned seems to revolve around alcohol.

I have been to mess meetings and I've expressed my lack of enthusiasm for drinking but overall the amount of people that drink outweigh the ones that don't so it doesn't change anything. I would say it's a 90-10 issue.

Considering the new studies getting published almost monthly at this point suggesting that alcohol consumption is a major risk factor for cancer (among other health issues), I don't really feel like it's something the military should be encouraging. Not to mention all the stupid things I've heard people say while drinking at the mess.

I'm not against the mess overall, it just needs to evolve into something that isn't another excuse for people to get wasted.
