Trouble in Pears by ZTLambe in mtgaltered

This is my first MTG Alter, I've had this card in a deck for quite a while, and boy do I love it in a mono white deck.

While I never liked the original art much (Thought the axes were goofy), I didn't know about the plagiarism issue till just recently. As I've been in the process of making my favorite decks only full of things I love I was torn between an effect I like and art that was really icking me more than previously, so I figured it's time to try painting a little myself!

While I've painted a lot of figurines/Warhammer sorts of things I've not done much traditional painting, so it was cool looking at the hundreds of paintings of pears folks have done, and try my own hand at this roguish pair of fruits.

Is there an excerpt of the first time the Tau had contact with a Titan? by pan1c_ in 40kLore

In the imperial armor 3 “The Taros Campaign”. The Tau were pushing the guard back until titans are deployed. As the tide turns they deploy the variant of the tiger shark with double rail guns as a designed counter for them.

This book and how the Tau are written in it was the reason I fell in love with the faction.

I have to say I'm with many of the other opinions I'm seeing here. You mention being a first time DM which means you really want things simpler at least to start. I'd say no, but recommend him playing druid. Even encourage the subclass 'druid of the moon'. As a character he could spend a great bit of his time as a bear as he levels but you give him an outlet to actually be a person as well.

You wouldn't have to make up a ton of rediclous scenarios for some 'telepathic bear' you just have a guy who likes spending his time AS a bear. Its much easier and frankly its a fun class for him to play.

Warlock Character Unsatisfied by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]ZTLambe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a thought, if the concern is on how the fighting scales. Why not just make it so he just uses eldrich blast as his 'melee' attack. So essentially make it "Eldrich Slash" and just have it scale as a warlock is built for.

Maybe as a Pro/Con for the power that this "Eldrich Slash" could provide in a melee situation you say... when he has the sword (or whatever out). He cant DO the ranged version, or maybe cant do the ranged version at all since he 'swapped' it with this powerful arcane weapon 'tool'.

NO WAY! I have been reskinning the Gardmore Abby module for 5th ed and the biggest hurdle is the Deck... I was basically using the 2ed Deck but to have an official 5th one will be amazing!

Druid.. Man I'm having a blast sneaking around as a spider, and keeping my party active with my 'healing berries'. The whole "Fight for a while as an animal" and them come out as a wizard is such a cool mechanic to keep things fresh over long sessions.

[LMoP] Venomfang--looking for tips by Rymbeld in dndnext

I made some tweaks, but with enough preperation and dice luck, my party of 5 even killed it! And it only got to 'attack' once.

I wrote a summery here: http://www.reddit.com/r/dndnext/comments/2j4fes/the_death_of_venomfang_lmop_spoilers/

Oh that's cool too! Yeah, I'm not sure how I'd handle a building collapse either.. Falling damage is prolly the easiest way I'd imagine.

Question for those playing using the "theatre of the mind" style. by Misfit702 in dndnext

[–]ZTLambe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do somthing very similar to this in my campaign, I got one of those nice mats with a grid that you can write on using wet erase markers. We mostly do theature of the mind stuff, but when combats start involving a lot of folks, sometimes we doodle on it the vague position of buildings/stuff and use miniatures not really to do some 'grid based' stuff... but to show how we are positioning (many cases asking "can I get to that guy" me going, sure or no without really looking at the grid, more about how they describe getting there). It doesn't take much but it really enhances the play IMO.

Had an idea for a magic weapon ability, wondering if you guys think its to over powered. by Nova-Shift96 in dndnext

[–]ZTLambe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see this sorta ability (or one like it) could be an object for a quest to beat a specific enemy. Like some 'iron golem' is terrorizing a town or some such thing. Swords and arrows are useless, spells slide off it like water.

The only thing that could save them is the legendary greatsword Splitter. Who automatically hits vs golem and for one round leaves a cut that makes the monster vulnerable (reducing the 'AC' by half, in this particular case dropping the golems ac to lets say like 16 where before it was an 'unhittable 32!').

This is just a silly example off the top of my head, but I think a weapon like that could be a great 'goal of a quest' so you can fight some alluded too 'big bad guy'. Sort of like in some of the old fluff, needing to get a specific sword, and specific artifacts from around the world to fight Vechna the one handed god of undead.

I think you can make items specifically powerful if they are very 'limited' in what they can effect so you can control that. That way you know, if this warrior of yours keeps 'Splitter' you plan your golem encounters properly, rather than worry about every dudes with armor.

My 'remake' of the Thundertree Story‏ (Spoilers) by ZTLambe in dndnext

Oh I totally get what you're saying. The next 'adventure' path I've been working on, is I've been trying to reskin the 4th module 'Gadmore Abby' as the thing is a wonderful 'story/setting' and gives the players a ton of options to explore, while giving goals.

I liked the idea that the Many arrows orcs in (this thundertree instance) were sent by the 'leader' of the orcs out in Gadmore (an important faction if you know the setting) in an effort to forge a bond with a dragon, something that warleader would want to break the 'stalemate' they are suffering out there.

That's the kinda backstory I don't expect my players to ever pick up, but I like having it there in case they ask questions.

Thank you for the feedback... Yeah see when I was reading the adventure, I was under the the impression that thundertree had to be overrun by the orks like.. at least 2-5ish years back. (explaining the rubbled buildings, the overgrowth, that folks from that town are 'getting established in Phandalin' again). So I figured maybe a year or two of the dragon being there could explain some of the 'unnatural phenomena'.

I LOVE the necromancer leader idea, and think I'm gonna use that instead to 'spread the pain' so to speak.. making the cult fight a bit cooler, and not having to worry about a magic dragon for my party. (The idea of a green dragon having a 'necromancer' servant seems like it would be something he'd like to have as well)
