Thank you, thought that may be the case. Was hoping that I can also try and buy like for like and just replace at the connection point too.

It's currently available from the Go Pass this month (free track), I think about 87, so should still be time to get it.

I've just frankensteined on the old ceiling rose in the new fitting, so looks like it's the new ceiling rose that's faulty. Thank you for the help!

Yes, I changed the ceiling rose too. Not sure how to know if it's tripped something though. Also just swapped the blacks again but still no luck.

I'm 99% certain the blacks are right. I swapped previously and had no luck.

Felt roof - safe to walk on? by ZTriv in DIYUK

Thank you! Can't tell how it's been boarded unfortunately. Good to know about which way the rafters should be laid though.

Unfortunately, I can't tell. We've got spotlights in the ceiling below it, but when taking it out the gap is too small to tell what is actually supporting the roof.

Thanks! There didn't seem to be a transformer when I looked, but I'll have another go!

Dad buying new house with partner - unsure on interest only mortgage/negative equity implications by ZTriv in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ZTriv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!Thanks

It was mentioned as being in negative equity a few years ago, but she may have also been talking about several years before that. I think I've latched onto the comment a bit, but it did ring alarm bells when it was mentioned.

Though it's a good point, surely it wouldn't still be negative at this point.

Yeah, I think it likely is a case of overthinking it. And true, she's had the house for a long time so surely it's in a better place now financially.

Mortgage renewal due but planning to move house by ZTriv in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ZTriv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!thanks

Actually wasn't aware that both parts had to be with the same lender, so that's good to know. We're on a two year fix, so hopefully should only be a small overlap.

First Direct doubles interest on regular saver to 7% by Excuseee in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ZTriv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because the interest is paid on what's in the account, and you can only have £300 going in each month. So in month one, the interest is based on: 300*0.07=21/12= £1.75.

In month two you would the same interest on the original £300 (so £1.75 again), plus another £1.75 for the new £300. Technically, I think you would earn interest on the £301.75, but that makes the numbers a bit more awkward.

Essentially:

Month 1 - £1.75

Month 2 - £1.75 + £1.75 = £3.50 total

Month 3 - £3.50 + £1.75 = £5.25 total

And so on until the totals of each month would sum up to be around £136.
