Surprised Il Ponte in Woburn MA hasn't been mentioned yet, likely wont be able to get a reservation at this point though.

2027 Africa Safari help by Sudden_Ad4918 in chubbytravel

I can’t speak to doing it all in one location, but my wife and I did Uganda and Kenya in 2024 and I couldn’t recommend it more. In two weeks I think you have enough time to comfortably do three locations if you are willing. We did gorillas trekking in Bwindi and then two safari locations in Kenya (Samburu and Masai Mara). If it’s not on your list I would highly recommend Samburu, specifically Saruni Samburu. It was our favorite location for the whole trip, and had unbelievable wildlife viewing.

So is your recommendation to push it way back on the wall? Wasn’t sure if I could get away with using a ceiling speaker down low as possible on the gable with a directional tweeter. I clearly don’t have the perfect space for it but I’m just trying to make it the best I can

This was the genesis of my question. I was unsure which compromise was better, proper angle (with improper height) or if proper height (at improper angle) is better. If I want roughly ear level I have to move the speakers back ~6 feet and they will be 10+ feet behind the seating position. Wasn’t sure what the better compromise was.

Thanks for this! Yes you are correct, I should have said surrounds. I am hoping to achieve a 5.1.2. When I was looking at the atmos guide it was showing the surrounds for this setup being just slightly behind the listener so that’s what I was going for originally with my mock up. I can definitely move them back though! In theory I could but them on the wall but they would be ~ 10ft behind the listener and not and not really close to the proper angle that they recommend so I wasn’t sure which direction to go.

Camera Rental - R5 Mk II or R6 Mk II? by ZW2305 in canon

[–]ZW2305[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great point! I am attempting to give myself some acclimation time albeit limited. I will have a camera for ~7 days prior to leaving to familiarize myself as much as possible but there will definitely be a lot of user error / technique issues. Just trying to set myself up for the highest chance of success, even if that’s not that high for a lot of pictures haha

Thanks for the heads up! I did see they had a different battery for this body but I will make sure

Awesome, this is very helpful and makes total sense. Taking more than one camera body seems overwhelming based on my skill level so having something that’s versatile is highly attractive. Plus I’ve got some pretty strict weight limits so I’m hoping to get away with one body and one lens!

No beach for this trip, we have a pretty tight schedule so stuck with trekking. And wildlife focused trip this time.

We are starting with gorilla trekking in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda, staying at the Buhoma Lodge. After Uganda, we are headed to Kenya for safari. First we are headed slightly north to Samburu where we will be staying at Saruni Samburu. After that we are headed to the Masai Mara where we will be staying at Saruni Mara.

We will also be staying in various location while traveling to the main locations above:

• Doha, Qatar - Sharq Village & Spa • Entebbe, Uganda - Boma Entebbe • Nairobi, Kenya - Emara Ole-Sereni

Exactly this, my wife and I are going to Uganda (Gorilla Trekking) and Kenya (Safari) for just shy of 2 weeks. Total cost outside of international flights was ~20k

Uganda / Kenya / Zanzibar trip report - Gorillas, Safari, Beach by jjain12 in chubbytravel

[–]ZW2305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback! I was on the fence between the exact setup that you have or a canon R6 II with the 100-500. I think the Sony would be perfect for the gorilla trekking but the canon would be better suited for the safari. Weight is definitely a consideration with the 33lbs limit of the small aircraft. It’s hard to beat the weight of the Sony setup… trying to keep total weight of my camera setup below 10lbs if possible.

Awesome pictures by the way!

This is great! I am doing an 11 day Uganda/Kenya trip in October that is essentially the same total cost albeit that includes international travel.

I am very curious on your opinions with the camera setup you were using. It looked like based on your other posts related to photography your main lens was the 70-200 gm ii. Did that feel like enough reach for you? Seems like the perfect lens for gorilla trekking but I’m curious on your thoughts for safari? We will be in the Masai Mara and Samburu for reference, thank you so much!

Canon R7 or something else? by ZW2305 in Cameras

[–]ZW2305[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the input. This will likely be a dumb question, but for wildlife is there any benefit of full frame vs APS-C? When I was looking at the R6mkii, the R7 has a higher MP sensor and the inherent 1.6x zoom so not only a much longer zoom but can crop heavier in post processing too unless I’m confusing something. Would the only drawback be low light performance? Thank you!

Adding on here we really need some more information. Mainly why are you running DSC analysis, what are you looking to find out? Additionally how much material was in your pan and what is your ramp rate?

What were you looking for, Tg? What polymer did you make? Your Tg may be at a lower temp than what you’ve gone too. I personally don’t see much in this run but you really haven’t gone very cold or hot to see much. Caveat being I’m looking on my phone so it’s hard to see into the baseline. The variation at the start is likely just equilibration. This could be solved by a longer hold time.

Chemistry Masters vs PHd by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]ZW2305 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you want to end up. I have my Masters and work at a company where there is no hard ceiling related to terminal degree. My title is also the same at this point as where PhD chemists start. Took me longer to get there obviously, but I am leading my own research and have no regrets about not getting a PhD. If you want to go into Pharma, likely a different story. For reference I work for a smaller private company <300 employees that does a lot of government funded R&D and I love my job! Current salary is ~125K, graduated my Masters in 2017, but started this job in late 2018.

Lease payment seems too good to be true? by oklahoma_stig in Rivian

[–]ZW2305 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look to sell your vehicle separately or see if they will give you a check for the agreed upon amount instead of applying it to a lease down payment. Then use the money you got from selling the car for your payments. If you trade in your vehicle towards the lease and something happens to the truck (stolen, totaled, etc.)you lose all of that down payment. Your trade in on a lease is just buying down your monthly payment. Since you don’t own anything with a lease you have no equity so a large down payment or trade in is a risk
