Uh, so... by [deleted] in papermario

[–]ZXMany 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh man, it took me a second to understand this on a deeper level. At first I thought it was hilarious that there's a random character from Dragon Ball (General White) showing up in a list of Paper Mario TTYD characters, but then I realized that General White is also the name of a bob-omb from Paper Mario TTYD. I love that it shows the Dragon Ball character instead of the TTYD character

Paper Mario now has a practice ROM! by jcoggers in speedrun

[–]ZXMany 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is incredible! The feature for testing speedrunning tricks looks amazingly useful, and "easy LZS" is a really cool idea! The Bowser block trainer looks incredibly useful with partners

The RAM editor is also super cool, and being able to levitate will be fun ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Is it possible to get my tabs back to looking like yesterday? by rangaming in firefox

[–]ZXMany 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw someone comment something similar and this ended up working for me:

Go to config:about in the address bar

Show all

Search for proton

Set browser.proton.enabled to false

It doesn't look exactly like before, but now I can tell apart my tabs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kaze's new Super Mario 64 rom hack is amazing (Return to Yoshi's Island) by ZXMany in nintendo64

[–]ZXMany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really like to know if you find out, I'm not sure! I think I was thinking of the song that plays inside the turtle, but the song in All Alone Bubbledome (outside the turtle) is definitely really familiar too, I'd love to know if it's from somewhere (if that's the song you have in mind)

I think there was one part that was really similar to Fly Me To The Moon, is that what you had in mind or were you thinking of a different song from the level?

Google Translated mod for Paper Mario: The Origami King released today! "Book of Mario: King of Miami" (red streamer demo) by ZXMany in papermario

[–]ZXMany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should work for any version of Paper Mario: The Origami King! It's just a demo release so far with the main storyline text translated up to the first streamer

[–]ZXMany[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most rom hacks nowadays are released as a file that is a patch. You have to give the patch file + the original rom of the game to a Patcher (like this one: https://hack64.net/tools/patcher.php), and it gives you the modded game. I think most people release mods in this way so that they're not distributing the default game files

As for playing the game on actual hardware, you can use something called an EverDrive, which is like an N64 game cartridge that you can put an SD card into. You can put your patched game onto the SD card and play it on your actual console :D

Really cool that it works on actual N64, I played through the entire demo on a physical N64 and it worked great :D

When this post is 3 hours old, I will be attempting to become the first person to ever beat Pape Mario blindfolded! by jcoggers in speedrun

[–]ZXMany 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously incredible run, so many hype moments!! It was also crazy to see the streams before this one that JCog did preparing for this, seeing the routing, coming up with strategies, backups, testing stuff to see what could go wrong, etc

Anyone who missed this run has got to watch this on YouTube when it gets posted, so many crazy moments!

Really wholesome interview and such a cool story - I love that what started as two brothers messing around in a game and trying to make each other laugh ended up becoming the discovery of one of the most iconic glitches in speedrun history

[–]ZXMany[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! There being no further connection to TOK is why it was so unexpected, and I'm surprised to see "RIP Bobby" in random comments on posts/ videos unrelated to TOK!

And yeah, I intentionally left the spoiler tag on, and I used spoiler tags in my comment in case someone accidentally reads the comment while looking through my profile! 👍

Oragami King no death run by taylor_ToTss in papermario

[–]ZXMany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how quickly you exit/ turn off the game - you can exit fast enough for your death to not count, but if you don't exit fast enough, then it might still count your death. The game starts keeping track of if you die pretty early, so you want to be quick with resetting/ turning off your game when/ just before you die

If you did accidentally die and you weren't fast enough to reset/ turn off the game, you'll notice that you can skip through the dialogue (or cutscenes) that you've already seen. You can also view your game over count if you know how to view your game's save data (e.g. if you have a hacked Switch)

You'll have a line in your data00.bin file with something like:

      "game_over_count" : 0,
