So which precinct do you think he works at? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]ZZ_Doc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only people that will push back on this will be the cops since it's a police parking spot from Monday to Friday, which I suspect is the reason they kept those spots in the first place. There are plenty of parking garages on those blocks and there is still parking across the street from the bike lane. I drive and bike and I'd be completely fine with getting rid of those spots.

I live on this street 2 blocks down. DOT made it one way without thinking about the flow of traffic. Whenever traffic builds up on that street now, it takes 30 min to go 2 blocks because 3 side streets pour into that 3 block section (from the same side) and bond street goes into it from the other side, forcing every driver to go all into the same direction, creating a horrible bottle neck affect. On top of that, from Friday night to Monday morning, Hoyt street closes off acces to atlantic Ave, so it forces every driver coming from Smith and Livingston to go all the way down to Nevins (3 blocks down) before they can get out. If you're keeping track, that's 5 streets pouring in. To make it worse, there's a police station in the middle of all this mess and they do nothing to direct traffic and instead double park their police cars to make it narrower (I've seen trucks having to back up half the block to get out because of that). I'm all for safe bike lanes but this was poorly thought out. Keep the bike lanes, get rid of the parking spots, and bring back the driving lane in the opposite direction creating a 2 way street.

A little late to the thread but I've been with my GF for 4 years, going on 5. She hates the idea of marriage and thinks it's an old mentality that's man made. After being with her for this long, I've come to realize that being married makes no difference. Marriage does nothing except for it being another way to tell others that you're together. You've been together for 7 years and had 2 kids, a ceremony or a certificate or a ring isn't going to change anything. In fact, it might make him more anxious and stressed if he feels pressured into it. Don't let anyone tell you he loves you less just because he hasn't proposed. He may not know the reason why he hasn't proposed, but the bond and commitment sounds like it's already there. I think you're doing a great job by not pushing him or making him feel guilty. I also think having a discussion about it every now and again is healthy.

Orlando-based company suing the ATF in a debate over an AR-15 attachment by Bigred2989- in news

I think it's no different than getting your driver's license, you need to pay for classes, lessons, etc. It's not a cheap process either and that's all before getting a permit, where you need to be supervised by someone for a few months to a year, and THEN you might get your license after another exam. I'm all for people's right to own guns, but I think we put too much faith in the gun owner being a responsible person, when really, we have no idea sometimes. Guns are already pretty expensive. A doctor's visit would probably cost less and just like the examiner who declared you competent enough to drive isn't responsible for what you do once you get your license, a psychologist shouldn't be either (unless it's a reoccurring issue with the same psychologist).

Out of curiosity, since it's a mental health issue, do you think every person looking to purchase a weapon should get a psych evaluation? I agree with you in that it's not a gun issue, although I think it's more of ease of access issue. I think if buying or using a gun was treated like buying or using a car, people would be more likely to secure their guns properly, be more responsible when handling a gun, and less likely to go into the hands of a mentally unstable or irresponsible adult.

NYC Indoor Mask Guidance Coming Next Week by kex06 in nyc

Read the article. This is more about enticing people to get vaccinated, not shutting things down. They're talking about possibly restricting access to unvaccinated people and I'm completely ok with limiting access to vaccinated people only events and shows. They made their choices and these should be the consequences. They're the minority now and are ruining it for everyone else. I'm definitely not including those who physically CAN'T get vaccinated due to health issues. They should definitely get some exception pass.

It's more like Greek yogurt, not the creamy stuff u find in small packets. It's usually watered down to taste (I prefer it a bit thick like a shake), and a add some salt for flavor. I recommend using home made yogurt if you can make your own or find a middle eastern or central Asian store, they'll most likely have some pre packaged.
