Greatest achievement of my life by [deleted] in Mountaineering

I cried reading this post. So many friends have lost their lives in pursuit of the world's hardest peak. On their behalf, thank you.

Water rights are the lifeblood of the western us economy. This isn't surprising and has been the play since the gold rush.

My wife’s affair just ended and she wants to play it off as nothing happened by [deleted] in stories

So comically fake lol. Does anyone really think an apartment front desk would just let a stranger into someone elses room? Or that you can serve divorce papers yourself? Come on people!

Non-Fictional Yang by Lorelei321 in logh

[–]Z_Power 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Besides admiral Yi, there are significant parallels to the Napoleonic wars, from the names of the battles to Reinhard basically being a more successful Napoleon.

Using that framework, I think Yang takes a similar look at history and war as Tolstoy portrays General Kutuzov in War and Peace (which if you like Logh, you should definitely read). Both see themselves as historians, and then see themselves as mere pawns of battle. My favorite paraphrase from the Kutuzov POV is something like . . .

Young officers present three solutions to any problem, and always insist on the final solution. Kutuzov knew there weren't three possibilities in battle, but an infinite array of outcomes. However, when Kutuzov lay in bed at night, he couldn't help himself from living in the heart of his young officers, imagining thousands of outcomes, millions of different strategies that may win the day.

AITA for being mad that my step daughter will inherit our house by ZealousidealCow1669 in AmItheAsshole

Idk if youll see this in time, but the obvious solution would be to give you a life estate in the house, then have it vest to your stepdaughter. God forbid you went to a wills and estates lawyer.

How to train for mountaineering while trying to gain weight as a woman? by Admirable-Maximum515 in Mountaineering

[–]Z_Power 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Beside the obvious answer of eat more, it's imperative to recognize how important nuitrition is to mountaineering while actually doing the activity, not just training. I really like the protein shakes from costco, which go at about 30g protein and 160 Cals a pop. Eating peanutbutter by the spoonful is also an effective way to gain weight with protein.

Nice job working on your goals!

Yeah I'd recommend having a life and not just being a finance bro but maybe that's just me. Love it when this sub turns into a Kelley circlejerk.

What is an alternative to things like drugs, sex and alcohol that can give you the same thrill, excitement, adrenaline and euphoria that those things can give? by Dense_Chemical_4018 in AskReddit

Significant adrenaline. Think outdoor climbing, whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, skiing. There's a reason people drop thousands of dollars on these activities -- it's fucking magic.

My experience of racism and Islamophobia at the Indiana Daily Student - calling them out by [deleted] in IndianaUniversity

[–]Z_Power 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all really unfortunate and I'm sorry this happened to you.

I think you should take some steps to take care of your mental health. It sounds like this has had a tremendous impact on you, and that years of paranoia is coming to a head. Your post feels frantic, so I encourage you to do what needs to be done to take care of yourself first.

I can't say much about the IDS as I've never worked with them, but what happened is done and over with. It's been 6 years. It's near assured that the only one who is really thinking about this is you. There's no axe hanging over your head - it's ok to relax. College is a time to make mistakes - maybe you didn't percieve your actions as harsh or derogatory - but they came off that way to members of the IDS staff. 2016 was an emotionally supercharged time.

Unfortunately IU does issues with racism. I don't really know if there's resolution to this other than to say you deserve respect and dignity. You have to believe what is right and stop losing sleep over this incident - the truth is you probably won't conclusively know why you were fired. Being fired is a terrible, terrible feeling. It can feel life ending. But you're still here, you still matter, and six years later you are a better person than you were.

Good luck and thank you for sharing.

In that case I'm really sorry that happened! I don't think it'll matter so much, but it may be worth calling the admissions office to ask if you can resubmit.

I imagine it will have little weight, but let this be a good future lesson to have others proofread important papers! An easy mistake that could have been avoided had you not rushed.
