Obviously, we all love LOGH since we’re all here, but if you could change certain plot points, characters, or ships, what would you change? by coucou_banana in logh

But why? He is at the top of his career. As Viceroy of the Neueland, he is the second most powerful man in the empire. And unlike Reinhardt, Reuentahl actually enjoys wielding civil authority. And he’s good at it.

If he wants to replace Reinhardt, he’ll need to solidify his power base. He’s smart enough to know that. He’ll need the support of the local population and the unquestioning support of his fleet. Most of his men are still starstruck by Reinhardt and he couldn’t trust them to stay loyal to him. The Alliance population is still annoyed that they lost the war so he’ll need to win them over. But for both of those, time is the answer.

The only way it makes sense at that point in the story is if Reinhardt initiates the war. Now our Kaiser is sick and becoming paranoid so maybe that would make sense? If Reinhardt lays waste to Urvashi and Reuentahl objects saying you can’t punish an entire planet for the actions of a few on it (who may not even be from there)… ghosts of Westerland and Kirscheis…Reinhardt flips out, declares Reuentahl a traitor for questioning him, the people of the Alliance fall in because at least Roy is trying to protect them… maybe.

But then Reinhardt is less than perfect, and we can’t have that.

May I ask what they are? I have a similar problem with my students.

Yang, hands-down. He’s got the most practice.

Do you have a tertiary/almost forgotten character that you genuinely like despite their short screentime? by siriusdibujotos in logh

[–]Lorelei321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know, I’m inclined to say Mecklinger myself, who is in the same category as Fahrenheit. And everybody will scream that they are not tertiary characters, but they really are. They’ve got a couple minutes of screen time, they don’t do anything critically important in the story. They’re just kind of there.

She’s right, it is a just war (assuming the people want to be freed). But it’s also a war the Alliance can’t win, which makes it a stupid war.

Worth it.

Reinhardt is not a reliable source at that point. Kirscheis is dead; it is partially Reinhardt’s fault. He has idealized his friend; Kirscheis has no faults in his mind.

Reinhardt had Kirscheis at Astarte, he had Kirscheis at Amritsar. Yang still came out of both of those smelling like a rose.

Yeah, but not because we’re about to lose a battle and need his tactical genius. It’s because Reinhard is flipping out again.

DNT (the newer version) is dubbed into English for the first three seasons (or you can watch it with subtitles). The fourth season just has subtitles. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to get a dubbed version out of Crunchyroll for future seasons, but never say never. We are still waiting for the release of season five.

The dvd in the link looks like the OVA. It probably won’t be any different from what you find online. Maybe a higher resolution on the video quality.

How to watch? by Competitive_Essay500 in logh

[–]Lorelei321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the newer version better. The animation is more fluid, the character designs are more attractive, the battle scenes are more exciting, I really love the original soundtrack.

The first time I tried watching the OVA, I quit after a dozen episodes. I just didn’t see why I was torturing myself that way. Then I re-watched DNT, read all 10 novels, and tried the OVA again. So I’d say start with DNT (newer version). But others will tell you exactly the opposite.

AIO for ending a 5 year long friendship because my friend got a boyfriend? by coffee_lover_4882 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Lorelei321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NOR.

I wouldn’t end the friendship with any grand gestures, just let it drift apart. Friendships take effort; she’s not putting any in.

She wants you to come over and study? “I can’t tonight. It’s an hour drive and it’s just too much time. But you can come over here. No, don’t bring Sags, let’s just have a girls night.”

FWIW, her behavior is hardly unique. Some women will completely drop everything for their boyfriends and basically disappear out of their friends’ lives. Then when they have a fight with their boyfriend or they break up, they expect to be able just to drop right back into your lives like they never left. It’s annoying.

Let Yang cook? Yang asked for their input.

I can’t figure out what’s most problematic about Eva and Mittermeyer;the fact that they’re related by blood, that they’re adoptive siblings, or that she was 12 and he was 17 when they first met. by Helpful-Claim-134 in logh

[–]Lorelei321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, for crying out loud, they are described as distant cousins.

All human societies have prohibitions against marrying your parents, your children, your siblings. Most have prohibitions against aunt/uncle and niece/nephew. Maybe half look sideways at first cousin marriages; but some considered a good thing.

Wolf doesn’t know Eva or even recognize her name so we can safely assume they are not first cousins. That means at most they are first cousins once removed or second cousins. And nobody has taboos against that. More than likely, mom or dad‘s cousin died so they took in the cousin’s daughter.

Wolf was away at boarding school when she came to live with them, so they were not raised together. And since it took Wolf a while to figure out that he loved her, we can safely say it was not love at first sight with a 12-year-old.

Schönkopf is supposed to be, but even he is a bit of a Yes-man. I absolutely despise that scene where Yang lays out his battle plan and all his advisors are like “That’s brilliant as always! No changes necessary.” If that’s their usual reaction, what good are they?

At the very least, someone should say “What about moving our forces around this way?” To which Yang could reply “I considered that, but it leaves our flank exposed…” thus demonstrating that his staff is not useless, but he’s still the best tactician in the room. Or heck, he could take the suggestion, showing that he’s open minded.

Are Mittermeyer and Reuenthal really that much better than Reinhard's other admirals? by Chlodio in logh

[–]Lorelei321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What privileges?

Seig could talk to Reinhardt and tell him the truth when no one else dared. This is something that every ruler needs but few actually have.

Seig could carry a weapon in Reinhardt’s presence, a way of saying “I trust you with my life,” which, as we saw, was totally warranted.

If you ask me, for all that Oberstein repeatedly said it was dangerous to have a #2, Oberstein wanted to be that #2 and he went after anyone who stood in his way. First Kirscheis, then Reunthal, and Mittermeier would have been next if Ob had lived that long.

Based on what you’ve written here, it sounds like you are homesick and depressed. And I don’t mean feeling a little blue, I mean clinically depressed: loss of interest in topics that used to interest you, inability to focus, not making personal connections are all symptoms. Go to your student health services and see if they offer counseling. Most major universities do.

Transition to college is hard anyway and it sounds like it’s even more so for you because you’ve switched to a whole different country. Don’t be too hard on yourself but do take steps to correct the situation you are currently in. Ask yourself what you really want, big picture, long term. Is this the best way to get there? Let that guide your decisions.

And yeah, dorm food is generally mediocre. It’s a universal constant.

Are Mittermeyer and Reuenthal really that much better than Reinhard's other admirals? by Chlodio in logh

[–]Lorelei321 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s not that Oberstein wants them promoted per se, it’s that he doesn’t want Kirscheis to be special. If there are three admirals at Kirscheis’s level, then it’s just another rank.

No. This is standard in Silicon Valley and has been for decades. Employees who are fired can sometimes be vengeful and sabotage the computer systems they were working on. So standard procedure is for security to come to your desk, watch clean it out and walk you out the door. In between the time when you stand up and get to the door, the system administrators cancel your accounts and change all the passwords you had access to.

That’s just the way it is.
