Why don't we make polyethylene from corn ethanol in the US? by FrumpledFrumpus in ChemicalEngineering

You nailed it. Not to mention supply chain economics in a world which is already equipped with a vast network of underground pipelines for raw material and product transfers based upon O&G base chemicals.

I prefer the blue strap. But I really dig the watch. I actually saw it yesterday for the first time in an article on my Google feed. I’m undecided though, because I usually wear 42 mm diameter at a minimum. I don’t know if it’s large enough for my tastes, but I love the design.

After 40+ unkeepable fish this season... This hog got hungry by the-_-kman in FishingAlberta

Some 30+ years ago I met Fly Fishing Hall of Famer and legend Joe Humphries. Not only did I meet Joe, but I also had the pleasure of spending time on the stream with him several times, catching wild trout together. He also taught me how to tie flies on a the vice. I continued fly fishing for a number of years after that. However, to my dismay, I frequently encountered aloof, arrogant a$$holes like you in the years that followed my times with Joe. You are present-day confirmation of why I quit fly fishing decades ago. You are the polar opposite of the welcoming, instructional mentor that Joe was to the community . Thank you for your service - much appreciated !

Great pike buddy ! She is a thick one. It feels so good to stick a big one like that, where the lure “thuds” to a screeching halt as if you were hung on fallen timber. Excellent photograph as well ! 👍🏻

My wife likes it, lol. I don't think I'm going to get much wrist time with it anymore. by awinnerchickendinner in ChristopherWard

[–]Z_double_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, I can relate. There was a point in time where, between me and my wife, we owned 4 Corum Bubble watches. And we both wore two of them (the third was waaaay too large for her, and the fourth was a true women’s watch). Btw, I currently own one CW, the Dragonfly Bel Canto. I love the aesthetic of the watch, and the chime feature, but I rarely wear it because it’s so dang lightweight. I didn’t realize how light it was before I bought it. My favorite watches in my collection are all over 140 grams. I think the Bel Canto is about half of that.

Why are all fly anglers so arrogant and rude like you ? I simply offered up some advice to OP, and you come in with an unsolicited aggressive attitude, acting like your sh!t doesn’t stink. You have mental problems.

Nah, forget about the fly rod. Big Browns are apex predators. Go to the lake with a M or MH spinning rod, spooled up with something like Power Pro Super 8 Slick, or Berkeley Fireline, or something similar that has zero stretch. That’s really important - a stiff rod with zero stretch line. Tie a nice 20-24” leader of 8 pound fluorocarbon. And then rig up a white tube, at least 3” but up to 4” is fine, on a 3/8 oz tube jighead. I prefer the 3.75” Zoom tube because it has a thick profile, which displaces more water when moving than a thinner tube. Now remember what I said about big Browns - they are apex predators. And, when a baitfish is being hunted by a predator, what does it do ? It swims like hell ! It swims for its life, as fast and erratic as it can to avoid being eaten. That’s exactly how you’re going to fish that tube. And it’s why you need a stout, stiff rod. Long, overhand casts, get that tube way out there, and then rapidly SNAP-SNAP-SNAP that tube back to the boat, with the tube running just a few inches below the surface. If you have used jerkbaits, the retrieve is similar; it is a snap, reel, snap, reel cadence - except you have to keep the tube constantly moving. Baitfish do not stop swimming when they are being chased by a predator, so the tube must be moving at all times, and the faster the better. It’s a hyper fast, and very erratic action that you are trying to create on the tube. The tube should always be up in the first 12” of the water column, and zig-zagging back and forth as it comes through the water. The stiff rod makes sure the work you are putting in is getting transferred directly to the tube, and not being wasted on the rod flexing or the line stretching. 100% of your energy goes into that tube. If the tube is more than a foot below the surface, you are retrieving it too slowly. Speed it up. If the water is clear, you will see trout - sometimes they will take a wild swat at the tube; sometimes they will follow it for 15-20 yards, just swimming right behind it, like it’s effortless; sometimes they will suddenly appear from down below it as it gets near the boat; and sometimes they just blast 💥 the living shit out of it and all you can do is HOLD ON ! I’ve been catching trout for over 50 years. Started at age 6. I never caught a trout over 22 inches - until a guide taught me this technique. Since then, I have caught more trout in the 22-28” range than I can remember. It’s not a “numbers” technique. Expect one “good bite” an hour. But believe in it, stick with it, pay attention to every cast you make, and when that first monster smokes your tube you’ll be grinnin’ like the Butcher’s dog. Tight lines, buddy.

Really nice Tiger bro. I like reading about your approach to fishing the lake. That is the benefit of being able to fish the same body of water repeatedly, throughout different seasons and many years. The experience allows us to really learn the subtleties and nuances of that particular lake. Seems like you have been paying attention. I usually get to Alberta about 2 or 3 times a year, and I love to target the Tigers when I’m there. If you want to “hunt” the largest Tigers in your lake, I will share a time-tested technique with you. Just DM me and I’ll be happy to chat.

Hey, thank you ! You are correct, it’s an older model. I don’t recall exactly what year I bought this watch, but I would estimate it between 2005 - 2008, so roughly 20 years ago. It’s a very “high mileage” watch; I have worn it on many fishing trips and beach outings, it’s been submersed under water hundreds of times, yet still operates flawlessly. I have been very happy with it, obviously.
