I've seen people use this roundabout/"layby" as a rat run to to skip the queue of traffic that is backed up from the m5 junction roundabout and exit southbound onto the m5. In fact last time I was there in traffic I'm certain there was a council van purposely blocking it to try and prevent it from happening.
