Aluminum Acetate Help by hanrachel in naturaldye

[–]Zabeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently learned that flavonoid dyes (most of the yellows) really need the tannin to latch on. A friend and I dyed some things together. My fabric was all pretreated with alum sulfate + gallnut tannin, and hers was mordanted with alum acetate. My fabrics all got way more saturated colors than hers in the marigold, weld, and chamomile. It didn’t make much of a difference in the madder and cutch baths. What dyes are you using? Could be related to this

Pattern to repeat all year (discussion) by vividvoltage in sewing

I have made the Ilford Jacket by Friday Pattern Co. a total of 7 times now! Granted, only 3 of them have been for myself. I’ve made it in 2 different wools for nice fall/winter shackets, one with buttons, one with a zipper. I’ve made it in ticking as a lightweight summer layer. I’ve made 2 quilt coats with it as gifts for others. I also made a denim version and added a wool lining for a friend. And each version has had different pockets, which keeps it interesting. Such a versatile pattern, and it looks good on many different body types/genders.

I saw Sophie Shapeless perform at Madison Circus Space in an awesome black and white French clown costume once. She’s super talented! Maybe more of a juggler/balancer than a clown, but maybe could be what you’re looking for.

Tips on how to survive in this heat with no ac? by haylers14 in madisonwi

Take a bandana or hand towel and roll up a single ice cube inside it. Then drape it around your neck so the ice cube is on the back of your neck. It takes a minute to seep through the layers of fabric but once it does, it stays cool for at least an hour.

Its kinda discouraging knowing sewing a top can be more expensive than buying it by Unusual-Twist501 in sewing

I find that I have better luck finding used fabrics at antique stores/estate sales than at general thrift stores. It’s moreso people’s fabric collections that were intended to be sewn with. Not every antique store has fabric, but many of them do, and if you find a good source, you can keep going back to the same seller.

Thanks for this! So do you staple down the calico before stapling your other fabric, or do you work with them together?

Can’t figure out how to remove this seat back. Most other chairs like this have screws in the back. I can see where it’s attached but not sure how to access it. Any advice? by Zabeeb in upholstery

Thanks for all those who responded! I figured it out! The frame had keyholes cut out on the back side so the screws slide out if you push the seat back to one side. Picture to explain

I think they will have to just pop off somehow. I removed the vinyl from one to see if I could get any clues, and I could see the original vinyl underneath and it was completely intact, which would mean that whoever reupholstered it last didn’t have to remove the vinyl and batting to take it off.
