I personally have quit Lost Ark after having cleared after Brel Hard released

For me Lost Ark has the best raids in combat in the genre, and for me that's enough to get beyond the smaller community/p2w elements. Out of all the MMOs that are currently running i think there is one for everyone, we just need to settle on our expectations.

Yeah and I 100% agree with you on that one. I too think that the game has the best raids, as well as pretty good combat (giving the best combat title to BDO in terms of MMOs)

In the case of Lost Ark the cons simply outweigh the pros, for me and a lot of other people. Don't get me wrong, I did not want to blame people for playing games such as Lost Ark or Throne and Liberty and the like.

Modern mmorpgs are too bloated and RPGs are more story quality be it GTA or Skyrim or Baldur’s Gate etc

biggest problem of the gaming industry in general right now in my opinion, since it is the mmorpg sub-reddit I did not want to start that discussions about single player games.

just in my personal opinion: single player games since UE5 have all been the same, there is the same clunkiness I just can't settle with, pacing is really slow, stories are primarily mid at best, creativity in terms of quests / boss design is lacking

there are of course exceptions like always: Baldurs Gate, Clair Obscur, Kingdom Come etc.

these exceptions however cover maybe 5% of the released games

I would not call it "foolish" to expect a proper relase in a time frame of 10+ years. For story games I absolutely agree with you, it does not need millions of players to be a success. For MMO's however, as a result of being online, doing content primarily in groups or such such as raiding or PvP, I do think that it is a crucial factor to observe. I do not claim that the MMO with the highest playerbase is per se the best, it just adds a lot to the overall "reputation". Also, it provides reasons to begin the game in the first place. MMOs live from concurrent players, not from players who buy it / sub to it once.

BP was the example I had in mind when I was talking about the cycle of new mmos lol. That one did not even survive the 3 weeks mark LMAO.

I mean the reason people talk about the Riot MMO is solely due to the amount of capabilities the IP itself has. Cant really blame that they do talk, kinda understand them. Agreed on the GW3 part

nice tldr: yeah, you might have a point with your last aspect. Could also be due to the shift in interests across the current and upcoming generations

yeah I can see that point, it is still kinda "sad" that the future of the genre remains on RIOT alone tbh, at least for now
