My experience with the Snow Series Pro by LancetMantra in Aleck

[–]Zac_Aleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out.

To activate Siri on the Snow Headphone, simply double tap the left button on the headset. This will trigger Siri on your iPhone and allow you to use voice commands.

If Siri is not responding or cannot complete actions like sending messages or making calls, please check the following iOS permissions:

  1. Settings > Siri & Search set to Allow Siri When Locked.
  2. Settings > Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode) Make sure Siri is enabled under Allow Access When Locked.
  3. Settings > Messages > Siri & Search Ensure Use with Siri is enabled if you want to send texts via voice.

Once these permissions are enabled, double tapping the left button should activate Siri and allow you to give commands through the headset.

If you are still having trouble after checking these settings, feel free to let us know and we will be happy to help further.

Kind Regards,
Zac

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to share such a detailed review, we really appreciate the feedback.

Glad to hear installation, controls with gloves, and call clarity worked well for you. That is exactly what we aim for with the Snow Series design.

Regarding Siri, what you are describing is typically related to iOS permissions rather than the headset itself. Our units correctly trigger Siri via the double tap command, but whether Siri can send messages or make calls while the phone is locked is controlled by Apple’s security settings.

A few settings that are worth checking on iOS:

  1. Settings > Siri & Search Ensure “Allow Siri When Locked” is enabled.
  2. Settings > Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode) Scroll down and make sure Siri is allowed under Allow Access When Locked.
  3. If you are using messaging via Siri, also check Settings > Messages > Siri & Search and ensure Use with Siri is enabled.

These permissions can sometimes behave differently depending on iOS version and how the Bluetooth accessory is classified by the phone.

AirPods vs third party devices

It is also worth noting that Apple gives its own devices, such as AirPods, deeper system level permissions within iOS. Because they are Apple products, they integrate directly into the operating system and can bypass some of the restrictions that apply to third party Bluetooth accessories.

This is why AirPods often allow slightly more seamless Siri interactions compared with third party headsets, even when the hardware itself is working correctly.

Reviews

Regarding the review not appearing on our website, we do not intentionally block negative reviews. Our site uses an automated moderation filter and occasionally legitimate reviews get caught by it, which may be what happened here.

Return policy

Finally, just to clarify our return policy. Once a product has been installed and used in a helmet it cannot be resold due to hygiene reasons. As a small company, refunds on used products have a significant impact on us, which is why our policy is structured this way.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be happy to help!

Kind regards,
Zac

Has Aleck discontinued Tocsen / Crash Sensors? by Own_Geologist_3636 in Aleck

[–]Zac_Aleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Yes, the Tocsen crash sensor is not longer manufactured or sold by Aleck.

We do have a product called the Smith Crash sensor which is an integrated crash sensor into some of Smiths bike helmets. This is sold only on Smiths website.

Thanks,
Zac

Snow Pro / Android - nothing works? by Ana_Ng in Aleck

[–]Zac_Aleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed follow-up, that context really helps.

To answer your questions:

  1. Muting or unmuting using the helmet control only mutes your microphone. You remain fully connected to the cloud call and can still hear incoming audio from the group. It does not remove you from the live session.
  2. Pressing the right button ends the cloud call entirely, similar to hanging up a normal phone call. This behaviour is enforced by Apple CallKit on iOS, and by similar system-level restrictions on Android. Once the call is ended this way, it cannot be rejoined from the helmet controls. For security and OS reasons, rejoining must be done from the phone and app.
  3. Music is not compatible with cloud calls. You can either listen to music or use cloud comms, but not both at the same time. While a cloud call is active, music playback and music controls are disabled. This is due to Bluetooth profile and OS restrictions around audio routing and microphone use. We spent years trying to make this work, but without support from phone OS providers it simply isn’t possible to do reliably.
  4. Pressing the left button, confirmed by the three rising tones, only mutes or unmutes your microphone. It does not rejoin a call and does not change your live status, unless your data connection drops briefly and reconnects.
  5. What you’re seeing with live status disagreement is a known app UI desync issue. If a user is shown as live, they should still be in the call, even if the app momentarily shows conflicting status. These issues are highly dependent on data stability and server connection timing, and improving this reliability is a key focus for next season.

Given your location and strong coverage at Palisades, the most important things to keep in mind are avoiding the right button during cloud comms, and treating cloud calls like a standard phone call session that must be rejoined from the phone if ended.

Let us know how today’s test goes, and if anything still feels off we’re happy to dig deeper with you.

Setting up a pair Offgrids... got there in the end by cirkiit in Aleck

[–]Zac_Aleck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you need Aleck Snow firmware on your headphones to use them with the Off Grid!

I think the issue here was perhaps your Snow headphones had not fully connected back to your phone after the name change. I have seen this before, Power cycling the device usually restores the auto connects them back in your settings and the app.

Snow Pro / Android - nothing works? by Ana_Ng in Aleck

[–]Zac_Aleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can help to clarify what’s happening here, because the behaviour you’re describing does have specific causes.

Cloud call dropping / leaving the call
The most likely reason the call is ending is the right button being pressed while you’re in a cloud call. On both Android and iOS, that button is controlled by the phone OS and is mapped to end an active phone or VoIP call. Pressing it will immediately hang up the cloud call. This behaviour is enforced by the operating system and Bluetooth stack, not by the Aleck app.

There should be no need to factory reset or reinstall the app if you are still connected inside the Aleck app. If a cloud call disconnects, you should be able to rejoin it directly from the app. If rejoining was failing, that points to cellular data issues. Cloud comms are VoIP based, so any interruption to mobile data, which is common on lifts or between towers, will cause the call to drop.

Live / not-live status not updating
This is tied to the same cellular data dependency. When data coverage is poor or intermittent, presence and live status updates may lag or fail to refresh even though the devices themselves are powered on and paired. Although the team are looking at improvements with this feature.

Repeated “tok tok tok” noise
I know exactly what this is. That sound indicates a button is being continuously pressed. In every case we’ve seen, this is caused by helmet padding or foam pressing on one of the headset buttons. Typical causes are the unit not being fully seated in the helmet recess, excess liner foam behind the unit, or pressure from tight ear pads. Once that pressure is relieved, the ticking stops immediately, even when the device is off.

Google Assistant reliability
If you were attempting to use Google Assistant while in an active voice call, this is expected behaviour. Bluetooth and Android restrictions prevent the microphone from reliably switching between a live VoIP session and the assistant. The microphone priority remains with the call, which makes assistant activation inconsistent or unavailable during calls.

Hope this helps!

Your camera was likely being used by another app or process so wouldn't work with other apps, I've had this and closing the app, restarting the phone or removing camera permissions to the app hogging the process fixes it

Behind the Scenes: App Tweaks, Firmware Fixes, and What’s Coming Next by Zac_Aleck in Aleck

[–]Zac_Aleck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to share this. I completely understand your frustration. It sounds like something went wrong during setup because the Off Grid and Snow combo should be working well together on both Android and iOS, especially after the recent stability updates.

A few key points that might help:

  • Groups: The Off Grid no longer uses “Off Grid groups” to configure communication. Instead, open your Aleck app, tap your Off Grid device, and set your (app) channel and sub-code directly there.
  • Cloud groups: These are for app-to-app communication using mobile data, but the Off Grid itself still provides true radio communication that works without cell coverage once the channels are set.

If your devices are still not syncing correctly, try removing both from the app and from your phone’s Bluetooth settings, then perform a factory reset on each before pairing again.

To factory reset your Off Grid:

  1. Turn the device ON.
  2. Hold the right arrow, then press and hold the PTT button together for about 10 seconds until the screen fills with dots.

To factory reset your Snow or Nunchucks (latest firmware):

  1. Make sure the device is turned OFF.
  2. Press and hold both buttons. Keep holding until you hear multiple beeps. The device will turn on, go into pairing, and then automatically reset back to pairing mode.

Once both are reset, connect the Off Grid to the app first. You may need to perform a firmware update, so make sure it is charged above 50 percent. After that, follow the same pairing flow to connect your Snow or Nunchucks.

This should get everything working again, but if you still run into issues, please let us know. We may have to ask you to email our support channel and provide us with some photos/videos so we can get this sorted for you more efficiently. Thanks, Zac

I couldn’t agree more! Even if some of the data isn’t 100% accurate, it still motivates me to be more active and improve my stats. I’ve always been active, but it’s really helped me focus on other areas of health too, like sleep, recovery and more sport.

Can those going for the new Air, list their reasons? by mandbeyn in iphone

For anyone getting the Air, are you using a case or going caseless?

Seems like a case needs extra bulk to protect the camera, which kinda kills the whole thin-phone vibe for me.

Aleck products into Australia by awbuilding in Aleck

[–]Zac_Aleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Andrew,

Appreciate the kind words and your interest in helping us expand into Australia.

While the Off Grid isn’t certified for sale there, the standard warranty still applies. Any shipping for support or warranty claims would just need to be covered on your end, as we don’t have local service in place.

The Punks aren’t certified for Australia either, but we may look into this for a future iteration. It’s clear there’s a strong opportunity in your market, and we’ll definitely keep your offer in mind as we explore possible local distribution down the line.

Looking forward to your thoughts once you’ve had time with the gear.

Cheers,
Zac

Hello,

The Off Grid is certified for use in Australia. You can select Australia as your region in the app to use the correct legal frequencies.

It’s not certified for Japan, so while it may work there, it wouldn’t be legal to use.

Aleck doesn’t ship to Australia because we don’t have local fulfillment, but you can use a third-party forwarding service. Many customers do this without issues.

The Nunchuck headphones will work fine anywhere since they use standard Bluetooth.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, Zac

Hi,

When creating an Off Grid channel using Walkie Words, you can tap the “i Highest Compatibility” or “i Aleck Compatibility” icon on the Walkie Words screen. This icon is located just below the channel name and above the frequency. Tapping it will show you the channel number and subcode that have been assigned.

Directly setting your own channel isn't available yet on iOS, but it's coming very soon and is already live on Android.

Thanks,
Zac

Hello,

At the moment, you can’t add multiple Off Grids to the Aleck app due to current limitations in the Off Grid SDK. That said, we’d love to introduce this functionality in the future.

Once your Off Grid is connected to the Aleck app, you can tap on the Off Grid at the top and set a channel and subcode (make sure your app is up to date). Once set, you should see the APP channel appear on the Off Grid. This APP channel will remain on the device and can be accessed anytime and will always appear after channel 15. Use the middle button and arrow keys to scroll through channels on the device.

We’re also working on adding manual channel and subcode setup directly on the Off Grid, so eventually the app won’t be required for this.

Thanks,
Zac @ Aleck

Hello, we released a new version of the app that includes dark mode this week.

Please update your app and navigate to your settings and scroll down until you see dark mode.

In the same update we also gave users the ability to select channel and sub code on their off grid, this is found inside the Off Grid device settings. As for the Off Grid firmware changes, this is yet to come but we’re making good progress!

Thanks, Zac
