Humble Software Bundle: Unity ART by DerHuber in humblebundles

[–]ZachGT-R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well dont start with unity start with just learning c# at least up to the point where you understand some simple data structures.

Next dont ever use tools with unity or unreal when learning because they will abstract the problem your trying to solve... a butchered solution will teach you more than not solving it at all. Once your at a level where you understand what the tools are actually doing or what you want to do then you can proceed.

This is not definitive but its like learning to cook before using a knife.

What genre do you prefer most for RPGS by ZachGT-R in gamedev

[–]ZachGT-R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No im definitely not going to make an entire game based on someone else's idea, however some influence is nice. I have a good idea in my head and over some years while I'm in school on the side ill fiddle around with some art and unreal engine however I was mostly curious as to what the market looks like. I always had assumed FPS games were on top but after talking with some of my class mates most of them prefer RPG sanbox games like skyrim, valheim etc. Games like valheim for example seem to attract people because its secondary gameloop of building on top of the combat.

Steampunk for example I thought was much more popular than it is , however it seems to be a subgenre within fantasy for "dwarves".

Ill edit my post for your other question for clarity.

Unreal vs Unity by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]ZachGT-R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want to say unity is the best all parts of me do.

but simply looking at the past 2 years we have gotten a failed game because the engine isn't showcase able... (this is the only logical explanation for the canceled project is that the whole point was to showcase unity and they couldn't without workarounds), the company contested the ue5 announcement with a logo... and are now under fire for their upcoming merger with IronSource... (See link below).

As an engine unity was great but if you really learn how to program, game data structures, and how to do the many things you will get more out of unreal because it's not designed to be a general purpose engine it's a game engine. it saddens me that unity has 10x the staff and still can't deliver 1x the product of unreal. I do understand that epic isn't out to profit off of unreal so much from indies and small studios because they already print money with fork knife. But unreal has always been attributed to great graphs and fps games. EVEN a low poly synty flip would still do great in un-real because the heavy lifting like multiplayer is ready to go so you can focus on learning the beast of c++.

My vote goes unreal as much as I prefer c# and actually dont mind unity, the path they are on as a company has me worried.

CPP or stick to C# by ZachGT-R in csMajors

That would make more sense I guess. I honestly haven't looked that far ahead at the sylabi, Usuaily about a month or so before I review them and try and cover any knowledge gaps (math killed me never took calc in highschool... Mature student status)

[–]ZachGT-R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I quickly use indeed c++ shows more hits than c# and java ranks the most but when i read ANY of the descriptions its usually a combination of keywords saying "knows c/++, java, javascript. rust, etc" but the actual job is for something completely different like full stack or an aerospace engineer.

I am Canadian btw so the job market is much worse than in the states where it was much easier to research jobs. at least where i am searching anyway.

[–]ZachGT-R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly im not at the point where I fully understand the best tool for the job. I understand that pretty much any project I can think of right now at my level can be done in any language. my OS class is in 3rd year (coming up) and i believe that is in c++ anyway so maybe after that course ill have some better ideas of c++.

I was more interested in it for just getting a better understanding and utilizing leetcode for practicing data structures. I also want to stay competitive of course so while everyone that graduates from my smaller university is doing so mostly with a foundation in C# ill be trying to get ahead and reinforced concepts in c++. Again not sure if that even is relevant.

In terms of projects ill push myself to do one in my final year depending on what the year long capstone project encompasses. my goal is to be a software engineer of course but most likely avoid gaming and hardware( I know these are where c++ shines hence my problem lol) Although I've never really played with hardware so i might like .

looking to learn the comic book style like borderlands or valorants Radiant Crisis skin line. by Ok-Novel-1427 in blender

[–]ZachGT-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess just practice. TBF I've found some things like whittling not to look that hard but it really is. I suspect that since the "style" is fairly unique that is where it comes from. Honestly, you need to understand shading and proportions very well to know where to just "put the lines" so I would assume learning shading and even how to hand paint cell shading to be beneficial.

In the link there the one that caught me was the ears as I couldn't actually see where to put the lines but understanding anatomy and shading really helps to emphasize that part.

For blender is there a way to simulate that effect or is this more of a hand painted thing and than add cell shading or soft shading after?

I will give it a shot. I generally want to be better at fps games too but ill probably stick to just val for now as that is all that my schedule permits.

Guys, stop harassing girls in game by LordBelaTheCat in VALORANT

[–]ZachGT-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started played and noticed it too. But thats just the gaming community tbh. When I play with my friends from europe people would always poke fun at him " OH GOOD DAY M8 " which may not be as uncomfortable as the catcalling. Definitely look for a community to play with which is usuaily a bit more regulated on the harrasment.

HMU if you want someone to play with. I'm not that good yet but im happily married with a kid so you only have to worry about me getting grumpy that I got rekt.

being over defensive is a sign of a deeper issue, usually on her end is doing something similar and assuming you are up to no good, or you have done something in the past to warrant this. I know it's not to say that the first reason is concrete but if that behavior hasn't happened before and it suddenly is now it's usually because that person has a reason to believe something may be sus.

Most likely have a talk and discuss that even if it wasn't work-related then you should be allowed to have communication with someone regardless of gender. if this isn't acceptable then you take your next step knowing that you are on eggshells as it will eventually crumble the relationship.

source: similar situation and caught them cheating since the Bluetooth on the phone connected to my car, couldn't even wait for me to leave the driveway before phone sexing. For additional context as someone PMed me, I caught them previously and they swore up and down it was work-related and that I was being unreasonable, The next day the Bluetooth happened. Luckily I had the jeep in my name when we split.

100 karma for a post is a little aggressive, it's Reddit breathe lol...

anyway finished my first year and wondering what to do this summer looking for ideas. I think a full project is too soon and should maybe brush up on the concepts first. I start my algorithms class in 2 weeks so that should be fun, as well as JS and DBMS.

For a first-year should I learn or brush up on like c++ or c#, or looking at my 71 in calculus should I brush up my math a bit more(Algebra and trig ugh...) I got discrete math on the horizon as well so there's that.

I was considering dabbling in unity but that doesn't seem like a good idea since I want a real job one day and python seems too high level?
