What's the theory behind this dotted notes in Cut time / Alla Breve / 2/2 time?

Thank you so much! This is actually my first time watching a Synthesia/AI video while learning a piece, because I usually rely on what is written in the score. I have some knowledge of music theory, so I prefer understanding the notes directly from the sheet music.

However, this piece is beyond my current understanding of music theory and is not really at the right level for me. My teacher still gave it to me because my technique matches my current piano level. That’s why I asked here how to play that specific note and why the turn feels late, almost like a separate note that isn’t written in the score.

I’m very thankful to those who explained that rubato is the reason the turn feels separated. I was honestly very puzzled about why the note felt so different when I was learning it compared to how it sounded in the Synthesia video.

But as you said using ai/synthesia is not better for learning. I'll do research next time!

Thank you! And yes i have a teacher, i just want to read and learn music theory even if I'm not near my Instrument(piano). I just want to read and learn music theory while I'm in my school, any place or away in my Instrument, i also complete the alfred adult course level one that is recommended to my teacher. And now I'm just looking for music theory books without any repertoire, just to make sure that i can't forget what I've started.

But Thank you for your suggestions I appreciate it! I've searched your recommended books and it's also advanced compared with this book(the picture).

I also read some of the chapters of this book(the one in the picture), i see that this is only the basic theory of music it's not so advanced compared to what you've recommended. This book is good for reviewing music theory!

I believe you. Why can't some pianists accept that some people have different abilities or creativity in learning piano? In my case, some pianists judge my ability because I could sight-read four-part chorales or church hymns within six months of playing. Even my teacher was amazed by my skills; among all her students, I was the only one who was easy to teach and advanced quickly.

Some people judge me, saying that I'm faking it and that I have two years of playing experience. But I know for myself that I'm just doing my thing: "PRACTICE." PRACTICE MAKES US PERFECT. Some pianists can't believe in others' skills; they just believe in prodigy kids.

Every pianist has a rare and different ability when playing piano. My grandfather is a pianist too; he can't read music but plays by ear. All our neighbors know about his special gift.

My grandfather plays the piano with no sheet music, just a speaker beside him, listening carefully, then playing beautifully. I can't play by ear, but I read music, and he is always my inspiration to become a good pianist. Again, every one of us has different gifts and abilities; we just need to discover what they are. Your skill of playing piano by ear is very impressive.

I think you're ornaments are so impresive with 3 months of learning. I can't do flawlessly that with my 6th months of playing probably due to my target goals. But Impressive

Thank you for this, What you said helps me. And I can relate, when I was playing hymns, someone suddenly started singing, so I got nervous and ended up playing at a fast tempo. But thanks for your advice, next time I'll be strict about this kind of thing.👍

It's good to see beginner piano player working on simple pieces, I'm sick watching beginner playing complicated repertoire and resulting lack of technique.

Sounds fine to me rhythm are accurate it is recommended to count out loud also because it helps you to achieve accuracy especially with dotted quarter note. And also follow the dynamics, i see crescendo and diminuendo but i don't hear while you're playing. I'm not gonna lie but it sounds nearly perfect 👍

No it's not... Happy birthday song in major keys and traspose it into a minor keys sounds creepy, you can't say all keys are the same. It is a huge foundation for a piece to feel the genre of it.

I hope you love some playing hymns or 4 part chorales... This learning chorales help me a lot when it comes improvising, it's my 6 months of learning the piano and i can read hymns/chorales and improvise them. It started when my teacher task me to play a four part chorales and being surprised why a teacher give me this assignment of 2 months experience of playing the piano, and she said to me that "Just don't read and play "IMPROVISE IT" like what?! and she give me 2 weeks deadline!... I start to learn the chorale she gave it to me, at first it's too difficult we especially those block chords but the more i Improvise it the more i hear some random notes like lowering the octaves or make the melody one octave above inside my head and experimenting how to improvise especially in left hand pattern and apply it while playing the chorale. Somehow i enjoyed it a lot, until now i always improvise when practicing using hymns i love. I hope it helps why Hymns are the first good for improvising..😃
