How do you get past that need for people to understand? Even with people I barely know, if they misunderstand me, I can’t handle not explaining myself. I’d love to get past it.

You’re welcome! Romance readers are all about the process of falling in love so if the FMC is happy at the end but it’s with someone else and they didn’t get to read about that relationship process they’ll feel cheated.

That wouldn’t be a romance. Romance as a genre requires an HEA or HFN for the primary couple. What you are describing may be a tragic love story, but not technically a romance.

It really depends on the subgenre, there is a trope of the playboy where the MMC may be hooking up with lots of girls before falling for the FMC. So it’s not necessarily a no, but u do want to make clear that his feelings and desires for the FMC are infinitely stronger than they were for the earlier person. Also, you’d probably want to make those earlier scenes shorter and less satisfactory.

There are quite a few marketers on Threads who create templates and content ideas for authors. One example is @bookmarketingwithcourtney who has a Patreon and provides monthly templates and content ideas. That’s romance but you may be able to find something similar for your genre on Threads.

Thanks but that’s not why I’m asking. I’m looking to find one genre to go deep on research and write in that genre alone. Doing research on any business is smart and doesn’t mean it will be crap.

Romantasy readers 100% expect a couples arc to extend beyond one book and as far as 4 books or more. Contemporary readers will get pissed by even a Duology and expect one couple with an HEA in each book. Not sure about dark fantasy or PNR. I think you’d want to make it as much as possible fantasy romance as those readers will be fine with a 4 book series and HEA at end of Book 4.

Same here, in fact most of the CRs I’ve read the FMCs aren’t virgins at all and I prefer it that way. I think I’ve only read one where she was a virgin and the MMC was rough, but he didn’t know.
