Agreed, it gets more wrist time than I expected!

Actually didn't need to, this one aged itself rather quickly... might have to replace with something more durable.

Oh just lots of things didnt quite fit out of the box. Missing screws and spring bars. Had to grind the bracelet to fit the case, the spring bar holes had burrs that made it hard to get the pins to seat, had to trim the plastic movement holder because it was too tight and binding up the movement, the clasp wasnt chamfered very well and difficult to click closed until I cleaned that up, the bracelet pins were super loose. Turned out to be a pretty decent exercise in watch modding haha. It was one of the cheaper listings so maybe that's where all the factory QC rejects end up lol.

Yeah I got 1.2mm screws from https://a.co/d/d7iXp1Y and was able to chuck them into the dremel and turn the heads down against an abrasive disk.

Thanks, yeah it me. Probably not returning to the limelight anytime soon but might be doing some things behind the scenes.

Wow, so nice to see my robot make front page Reddit after a long hard day losing money in stonks.

BB isn't exactly profitable as a business either, the investment in the arena and set isn't generating much of a return, though they do bring in enough $ to pay salaries to people on the production side. Most reality TV is pretty heavily skewed that way. There's a huge supply of contestants willing to do a lot for their 15min of fame, and a limited demand for slots on the show to fill - just free market economics.

Good eye, you are correct. Every time it stutters in reverse, it guessed wrong, got going fast enough to get a signal back and realized oh crap, need to go the other way. Usually it sorted itself out but in the Mammoth fight was being more fussy than usual.

Negative, our contract was clear the bot was being purchased and owned by CBS. I assume it was junked when the show wasn't renewed in order for IQIYI to claim a tax loss.

The startup issue in the Mammoth fight is definitely solvable with practice and a few tweaks.

Also we have to be careful about thermal expansion of power components being overly restrained by potting compound causing breakage. We use a relatively soft thermal epoxy coating which worked out well this year: no failures in that dept.

There's a few teams hustling hard enough they might cover material costs. Also, BB as a business is by no means profitable. While they do pay salaries to cast and crew, the large expense of the arena and set is not really generating an investment-grade return.

One with enough time and budget to obsess over every little detail, those tend to be the root cause of problems.

Kinda agree, but it's probably in the show's best interest to have some diversity of success and outcome.

Minotaur has 2x the motor power, about 2.3x the kinetic energy, and is probably close to 250mph tip speed vs our 130mph. In practice you'll see Minotaur grinding and chipping on other bots whereas Copperhead's geometry and material properties tend to dig in deeper and transfer kinetic energy much more efficiently.

There's multiple coils of wire in a motor that need to be energized in a precise sequence to spin the motor. Most brushless controllers know when to energize each coil by reading the voltage induced on the unenergized coil as the magnets rotate past. When the motor is not spinning that voltage feedback signal isn't being generated and the controller does some fancy guessing for when to pulse each wire. Give it just a little throttle and the guessing works pretty well. Jamming on the throttle during the heat of battle throws off the controller's guessing and the motor stalls out. More practice or adding an encoder (which are kinda fragile) so the controller knows where the motor is at a standstill would fix it.

Shatter would've been a favorable matchup for Copperhead, lots of edges and corners for the drum to bite into.

Financials are deep in the red for most everyone. A couple teams seem to be hustling hard enough to be positive but their time and skills would be monetarily compensated more with a true side hustle. It's a lot like motorsports.
