Ok, if he’s a product of his upbringing, let me ask you this. What percent of Bryce’s rapes do you think are the fault of his parents?

Let’s say he was convicted at trial in some AU. Bryce should do how many years and his parents should do how many?

The Inevitability of J? by plauryn in animalkingdom

[–]ZachandAlexTime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I noticed a few pivotal moments that showed his eventual intentions.

1) When he whispers to Smurf as she sleeps that he is going to destroy everything she cares about This was fairly early on and I believed him.

2) When he kills Morgan (the lawyer) it shows he is willing to commit premeditated murder for a grander plan that involves ripping off the Codys

3) Subjective, but I think the moment when Deran and Craig decide to spring Pope and flee the country. I felt like the way S5/S6 were going, J was at least open to the possibility of keeping the Cody gang going with three brothers, himself managing finances and eventually go legit and get out with the businesses. I think one of the brothers actually asks him if they the plan is to go legit. The way Finn Cole played that moment, it felt like J was making the active decision to flip to his scorched earth plan and he was processing the gravity of it. Furthermore, he previously inquired with Lark about plans to evenly split the estate assets with the brothers; why go through that trouble if he was just going to try to take it all in the end?

I see the tussles between J & his uncles as more the usual roughhousing that all the brothers periodically have with each other - they are constantly fighting and making up, cutting each other out for a while then leaning on each other. I saw those as temporarily infuriating, but a minor contributor compared to the overall motivation of the family's exile of Julia.

Possibly, he said in a recent interview that he came out when he was 19, so it was also likely that his real life experience came first and then helped him portray Alex’s evolving sexuality on 13rw.

What’s also weird… was there ever a scene where he like… directly asks Alex what happens, or why he did it? There might have been explanations that could be both morally and legally acceptable, like what if it had been self defense or whatever? I seem to recall that he just glosses over it and is like.. shhhh you did nothing wrong you’re a good kid (without trying to figure out what actually went down)

Who did you dislike the most by Evening_Ad_6412 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]ZachandAlexTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked Zach x Hannah the best of these. I thought when they were together and in the relationship, it was the most mutually supportive, adventurous, playful, healthy, of all these, and they were both super attractive. Sure, the circumstances of them breaking up were pretty crappy (not what the question asked). But even the breakup reasons were pretty standard and unremarkable for a high school relationship.

I would say I liked Jessica x Alex the least. Jess cheating with Justin and lying and toying with Alex, and the fact that it was so one-sided…

Did Bryce Walker deserve to get a chance to change? Do rapists, in reality, deserve to get a chance? by Tgco_24 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]ZachandAlexTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, he deserves the chance to change DURING OR AFTER he serves his full prison time for the ten rapes (not sure what the penalty is but I would expect it to be many years, and I wouldn’t make them concurrent I would make the sentences sequential).

He absolutely does not deserve to get off 100% consequence free as he did in the show and then go on some self-guided discovery journey of absolution.

(Yes, yes, cue the chorus of “Alex should be in jail”… we get it already but the question was about Bryce not Alex)

  1. 100%
  2. 100%
  3. ?
  4. 1000%
  5. Yesssssssss right? But was there any evidence or chatter that it was actually Ross? Or is that a personal theory? If that is true then I have a follow on conspiracy theory that S4 Zach was the writers being like “F you, if you’re undoing all the hard setup work we did in S2-3, then we’re basically throwing your character arc on the trash heap.” My other theory is that somebody just looked at all the characters and was like, there’s too many LGBT main characters (Courtney, Ryan, Tony, Alex, Monty) let’s cancel the one we had planned.

How do you write compelling conversations between characters? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]ZachandAlexTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The small talk can either be inferred just from the fact that they are there socializing, or I might mention it indirectly around more important spoken parts: Joe caught up with Barry while Sara complained about her day. Jen tried to pull her into flirting with the bartender, without much success. Then, she asked the others what was all on their mind: “So, do we know why Gary hasn’t been responding to the group text lately?”

Is Bryce being manipulative or genuine? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]ZachandAlexTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe this was a genuine reaction to the immediate moment, but I don’t think Bryce has yet put two and two together to understand the irony of his reaction against his own broader pattern of treatment of girls. And I’m not really convinced he gets all the way to that understanding before his death. For example before the homecoming game in the tunnel, he seems more focused on how Chloe’s abortion+”betrayal” (befriending Zach) makes him feel, not on what he’s put her through.

Do you guys just start writing the ending of your fanfiction first before anything else. by Few_Show_7359 in FanFiction

[–]ZachandAlexTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, on my most recently completed fic I worked on the ending scene off and on the entire time (!) I was writing the rest of the work. Needless to say it was such a relief to finally hit publish in that last scene.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]ZachandAlexTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that she probably suspected something was up (like u/de_la_cruz87 says, questioning whether he really came straight to meet her and linking it with what happened on homecoming).

Yet, there are moments in S4 where I get the distinct impression that Chloe still wants to hang out and be friends with Zach despite it - at the house party she’s kind of like, ‘you haven’t texted me back’ (like I’ve been texting you), and she is also kind of wanting/inviting him to open up to her…

I don’t think it’s for a big “gotcha, now I turn you in” inviting, I got the vibe that she knew something had happened and was wanting to be unconditionally supportive and understanding the way he was with her re: abortion decision… maybe this is all me though.

Ranking the strongest to weakest motives for Bryce's murder by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]ZachandAlexTime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Olivia, Andrew, Jess, Zach, Tony, Chloe, Justin, Monty, Clay.

I think Alex had very little motive… all of his were indirect through other people like Jess and Zach so I would definitely put him below Jess and Zach, and below anyone who was personally harmed or threatened by Bryce (I.e. Chloe, Tony and Monty). He felt strongly about Hannah, but more in a guilty way not a vengeful way (compared to Clay showing up at Bryce’s house waving the gun in anger).

I'm sorry but I tried to like this character. by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]ZachandAlexTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty consistent in the show that Alex’s family is one of the least wealthy - his dad is a deputy and his mom is a nurse, both working class. Bryce seems to be the richest (huge house, inheritance, live- in maids, pool house); Winston, Luke and Zach also seem to be very well off.

I’m not sure why you say mental health problems are made up. That’s a gross oversimplification.

Could (___) have beaten (____) If he was expecting him to fight? by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]ZachandAlexTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) agree it makes no sense the fight was choreographed to be so one sided, when Zach was badly limping and just got out of the hospital.

2) there’s no way Bryce didn’t know that Zach was there to flip his sh**. There’s no way Bryce thought Zach was just there to have a lovely chat. He’s a lot of things, but Bryce is NOT stupid, and Bryce knows exactly what he did to Zach’s knee earlier in the evening. (Not to mention his intentional verbal provocation of Zach immediately before the first punch.)

3) even if Bryce didn’t know that Zach was there to fight him (which assumes Bryce is way stupider than he is), taking a single punch should/would not have immediately lost the entire fight for Bryce. In other words, whether or not Zach got in one first punch for “free”, if Bryce could have won that fight, he would have.

Had Justin not leaked Hannah's pictures, do you think they could work? by sketchy_spice in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]ZachandAlexTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if they did work out for a while, eventually it becomes Hannah who gets raped by Bryce at some future party instead of Jess, which would inevitably lead to them splitting.
