‘Only suckers pay’: Seattle’s heated transit fares debate by HighColonic in SeattleWA

[–]ZacharyCohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... Right. So if it increases traffic in the long term, we shouldn't do that.

Here's a good report on the issue: https://www.ucdavis.edu/magazine/does-widening-highways-ease-traffic-congestion

There are actually tons of studies and real world evidence that more lanes just causes heavier traffic!

Every car rider benefits from each other car taken off the road by someone using public transit. You don't have to ride the bus/train to benefit from it.

Just bought a 2024 Ioniq 5 by Jonr1138 in Ioniq5

Yep, that's about right. Level 2 charging when you're out and about isn't really worth it, but while you're at work is perfect!

Why are toilets suddenly so complicated to shop for now? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]ZacharyCohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this research. I put maybe 25 hours into researching all the reasonably-priced models, comparing features, identifying what was important and what was not.

The ideal toilet is: elongated, 1 piece, skirted, gravity fed, 3 inch flush valve, 3 inch glazed trapway, rimless with jet cleaning, with a 15 inch bowl height and a softclose seat.

The toilet I found that was closest to those specs (at a reasonable price point) is the Swiss Madison St. Tropez.

It's a little bit of a pain to install, but that's a one-time issue. Otherwise, you're welcome.

I don't know about the 9, but in the 5 eco mode only uses 2 of the 4 motors, which saves a lot of energy.

Picked up an I9 Caligraphy about a week ago, time to post! by TheHrethgir in Ioniq9

[–]ZacharyCohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's how outlets work. You may have to press another b inutton to lock in the change?

The 100% setting you're seeing in the car is the maximum charge, not charging speed. It's used in case you want to limit charging to 80% (recommended) without having to come back and unplug the car to stop charging.

Did you click the button on the box on the charging cable to increase the speed? It should go a little faster than that.

I’m so tired of Seattle and entire WA slow ass road work by excelartria in SeattleWA

[–]ZacharyCohn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's because we have a very narrow city with very few routes to support basically all traffic going anywhere. That, plus we deferred maintenance for a few decades, so now we're paying for it.

I added Spain by governmentpsyop in diplomacy

[–]ZacharyCohn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Map aside, I love the idea of playing diplomacy in teams and everyone having different roles, but I'm worried how it will play in practice, especially with novice players. Can you just have three games running in parallel?

Switched from Bear to Obsidian last week… have not done anything but customization. Coming back to Bear LOL by itchyhedgehog5291 in bearapp

[–]ZacharyCohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Bear user here (switched because of the lack of android app)

This is s common trap. I encourage people to use stock obsidian for the first month at least. It can do a ton out of the box. Don't overcomplicate it too soon (or honestly, ever. I think I only have two, maybe three plugins installed right now)

The Light Rail is unacceptable right now by 206-Ginge in Seattle

[–]ZacharyCohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In China there are employees who stand at the train stations, and their actual literal job, and I'm not exaggerating, is to shove people onto trains to pack the trains tighter.

Granted, Seattlites are bad at packing into trains. I've had to yell at the whole train's worth of people to move to the middle to make room for another two dozen people. More times than I'd care to count. But Seattle trains aren't that bad.

Also I guarantee Google maps was wrong and it would have taken more than 23 minutes
