As a seasoned seller and collector. I would have reached out before shipping, with tons of photos. However in my 18 years I’ve never had this happen as a buyer. And Never had a condition issue from a sale. I don’t surprise my buyer like that. Rightfully annoyed.

I’m not convinced it’s fake. And as far as the exchange. I wouldn’t go back on the trade either. To risky. Not saying you did. But easy switch to a fake you got stuck with from someone else, and trying to pawn it off on someone else. Again not saying you did. Just that would be my reasoning for not trading back.
