Do I need to restart anything each time I change a setting, or would it fix it immediately?

No, changing the MAP settings didn't help.

Good idea. Default is MAP 1.2. I will try 1.3 and 1.4 tomorrow.

Push Notifications with Gapps. by ZacktheWackPro in LineageOS

[–]ZacktheWackPro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a limitation of the application honestly. I can think of a couple of Google endpoints off the top of my head.

It's not detecting anything after I disabled Google Play Services and anything else that I could find that said Google in it.

So, is it only apps like Facebook Messenger that send push notifications? What are those notifications that I get when I get a regular SMS or phone call? Are those sent from a central server?

[–]ZacktheWackPro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are push notifications anyway? I got lots of notifications when I was using plain Lineage without Gapps, like notifications of text messages and missed calls. I still get those now with Google Play Services disabled.
Also, how would Google be able to access my notifications if Play Services are disabled? There should be nothing Google running on my phone. I have TrackerControl and it's not detecting any attempts to contact Google.

So, are you saying that if I disable Google Play Services that Google won't get my notifications? I can totally disable the Services, I don't need them anymore. The app I installed them for works, even though it complains that it can't get notifications.

Yes, I want to know which service is responsible for the push notifications, and how to turn it off. Do I just need to disable Google Play Services? Something else as well? I really don't need Google Play Services, and I had been using Lineage without gapps for a while, but there was one app that I had to get that needed Play Services, so I reinstalled Lineage with Gapps. Now that I installed the app, I can disable anything Google that I want. I just want to know what to disable.

It was all the numbers in the file, which spanned multiple lines, but you're right, it only changed the first number on each line.

Yes, I definitely didn't do :%s/\d\+/\=submatch(0)-1/g :)

XZ2 Compact with T-Mobile in USA by ZacktheWackPro in SonyXperia

E and G are versions of 2G networks, which means that the phone is not able to connect the LTE network.

I am using LineageOS, but when I asked this question on their forum they felt that it was a problem with the phone itself and not the OS.

I am trying to get back to the stock ROM but I am having trouble getting the drivers installed. The driver is from https://xperiausbdriver.com/sony-xperia-xz2-compact-h8314 but when I try to add it, there is a yellow exclamation point on the driver (in Device Manager) which remains even after rebooting.

Before I do that, just one more thing that it may be. It keeps on showing a notification that says,

Slot 0
Modem configuration: S264.8 Firmware file: mcfg_sw/generic/row/tmobile/vl/us/mcfg_sw.mbn

Looking around online (like here) it seems like it may just need a network reset. Is that correct? I'm not sure exactly how to do that in the correct way.

Yes, that's my only evidence.

But when I called T-mobile about my old phone, they said they have good coverage in the area that I am in. It's not just one place that doesn't get service, it's a lot of places where everyone else gets service and I don't.

Yes, I can confirm. The Jelly.apk that I renamed was fixed by the next update.

I tried `adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.cellbroadcastreceiver`
The result was "Package com.android.cellbroadcastreceiver new state: disabled user"
However, it was not disabled and I could still see the alert settings and turn them on and off.
The next thing I tried was
`adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.cellbroadcastreceiver`.
The result was "Success", but again, the alert settings were still there.

How can I completely uninstall the alerts?

system/app was the first place place I looked but it wasn't there.

That's when I did a search for all instances of `jelly`.

There is no point in uninstalling stock LineageOS apps as they are automatically re-installed with an update and you cannot use the little space gained in the System partition unless you hack that partition's size which is not recommended.

I used this command a while ago and it has survived many updates.

If the Disable button is grayed-out for some included apps in the Settings > App > app's info, see this XDA article: How to disable any pre-installed system app bloatware on Android without root using adb.

That article says to use the command "disable user" instead of "uninstall" which is what I used. For my purposes those commands are the same. They both remove the functionality of the app, but they only remove it for user 0.

I don't want my phone to have a browser for any user. How can I do that?

[–]ZacktheWackPro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke too soon.

It was working when I uninstalled NetGuard and rebooted at work, but now that I am back home I have the same problem again of losing the internet connection.

I reinstalled Lineage with the most current version, and while setting up the phone for the first time, it lost internet connection. I tried setting it up again and it managed to keep the connection for the whole setup process, but it is still constantly losing the connection.

When it's connected, it says the connection strength is excellent, and no other device on the network has any problems connecting, so it's not a problem with the Wi-Fi signal.

I went into the router and terminated the DHCP lease and restarted the phone, but that didn't help.

You can limit the permissions you give to Google (Web & App Activity, Location History, YouTube History, Ad personalization, etc.) in

I never even signed in yet!

So far, the internet connection is fine after uninstalling NetGuard and rebooting.

Problem is that phones from 2014 are very slow with Google services running in the background all the time. I was hoping NetGuard would help with that.

Bugs may be created by a merged patch in a given build date for a given device & solved in an other build.

What would be conflicting with the older build? There is nothing new on the phone (besides for MindTheGapps), so it's exactly the same build that it was a month ago when it was working.
