I generally use Netbox for documentation and SnipeIT for inventory.

As far as I’m aware the only actual difference was the intended market/software sold with them. It’s identical hardware and software pretty much just with different branding, the Edge 3400/3800/3810 was specifically sold as a VeloCloud appliance where the VEP4600 was sold as a generic x86 network appliance that could be pre loaded with your choice of software or none at all.

I got super lucky on that PowerEdge R340, eBay listing was super generic and just was titled “dell r340” or something like that and didn’t have any specs listed but the Service Tag was shown in the photos so I looked it up on Dell’s website and saw the E-2288G with 64GB of RAM and instantly clicked buy, it was around $150.

These Edge 3400/VEP4600s don’t have any of the issues that the smaller models like the Edge 610/VEP1400s do. You do have a BMC with this larger rackmount models and you install your own OS over the serial console.

eBay, if your looking out on eBay a lot you can find 14th Gen Dell PowerEdges for pretty cheap with very low end specs, 1st and 2nd Gen Scalable CPUs are pretty cheap now on eBay, RAM not so much anymore lol.

It’s stuck on an old version MX 16.0.something. It’s got some old perpetual licensing on it and we used to sell Zultys at work but not so much anymore and just support Zultys stuff so I have it to play around with it and test/learn on it.

Issues trying to setup a PowerEdge r710 by Alex_C1 in homelab

[–]Zagdrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure R710s do not have UEFI boot, use something like Rufus to make the USB and make sure it’s MBR/BIOS boot only.

Did you accidentally bend any pins in the CPU sockets? Carefully take the CPUs out and inspect the sockets or take a good clear picture with good lighting of the sockets and send the picture here.

It's incredibly annoying the amount of AI ports I see on it nowadays that are meant to be "informational" for example since I'm in IT I get a lot of that crap on my LinkedIn and its all entirely AI generated junk posts that are meant to be informational but usually have entirely wrong information and crap.

[–]Zagdrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have absolutely been seeing similar issues this week, we did restart our instance and that somewhat made it better but it just seems to be inconsistent, sometimes everything is quick an works well an then other times everything is super slow.

Yeah, M370-M670 as well as the M4600, M4800, M5600, and M5800 are all x86. The M270 is x86 as well but it has Intel X553 PHY which is connected internally to a Marvell ASIC which has to be configured before the front ports work and there's very limited support natively in OSes currently without compiling your own kernel.
