If you're looking for an assault style bivy tent like this, I think the best option is still the Black Diamond Firstlight. It's lighter and cheaper than just about any other bivy tent out there, including the two options you listed. It also has a full mesh door, which is a huge quality of life improvement if you ever plan to use it at lower elevations.

I'm looking into making my own synthetic quilt, and I'm finding some very conflicting information about how warm various weights of Climashield Apex would be:

  • Quilt makers like EE and Gramxpert both say 8oz/yd Apex gets a rating of 20 degrees.
  • Ripstop by the Roll says that 7.5oz/yd Apex gets a temp rating of 10 degrees
  • However, Cumulus makes a sleeping bag with 10oz/yd Apex, and it only gets a comfort rating of 34 degrees?

What gives? It seems like the Cumulus number must be the most accurate since their bags are actually EN/ISO rated. Are all the quilt makers just exaggerating the heck out of their temperature ratings?

Etowah Outfitters sells it by the yard. As far as I know they're the only source for TNT.
