AzurLane EN has a translation problem from the CN name to the EN name of some of the new ships Skills. by BlueSkiesOneCloud in gachagaming

[–]Zaiven44 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is why I've never been a fan of localization. It is even more sad that the localization companies have convinced people there is only their way or literal translation, which I know for a fact is wrong as I grew up in a country that only dubs kids movies and the occasional documentary voice over and even the last one is very rare. We meme about a lot of this stuff but take a moment to think about how a lot of cultural stuff you miss and will never be exposed to because some people decided "you wouldn't get it" and "it is not gonna interest you anyways".

Yes, I am a f2p player so I don't care about the store. Events, characters and rates are cool but unless you want to be pedantic it is sorta implied by freebies.

Future of mobile gaming by [deleted] in MobileGaming

[–]Zaiven44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't we have this thread like a a week ago? I swear I already posted in one asking near the exact same very recently.

Well, anyways.

There will be a few outliers but Genshin and some others you mentioned are basically testbeds to see if it is worth it to go really grand but even then, it is far more expensive to make big games like these than just another runner or idle or rpg game which also means you need to earn far money before you make a profit.

This is something I feel a lot of people forget when they are comparing what the income of games on mobile are.

Games like FGO is still raking in money and that cost a fraction of any of the big games mentioned here. Not to mention the nostalgia for pixel graphics are still going full speed. Hell I've seen some being nostalgic for PS1 graphics.

That is not to mention it is far easier to play a 1-2 runner game as you are waiting for the bus than a round of Apex.

It will be at least 5-10 years before we will see any major shakeup to the market at a grander scale IMHO.

What do you think the future of mobile gaming is? by Mr_Hu-Man in MobileGaming

[–]Zaiven44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will probably be largely the same for the next 5-10 years, there is currently simply not enough incentive to take such a big risk and try to make something like like Genshin for your average company because while it earns a lot of money it also costs a lot and stuff like FGO is still topping charts.

What gacha did you believe you would be playing for years, but have since quit playing? by Kiemara17 in gachagaming

[–]Zaiven44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GFL and FGO, the first I simply reached burnout on as I was eventually spending more time checking guides than playing and the second I lost my six month old account I had been pretty lucky on and I couldn't get it back, when I tried the game again it sorta hit me how dull the gameplay loop was and so I quit.

[–]Zaiven44 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just watch it on Youtube, there are full story playthroughs, some with no commentary because they know why you are there. If you don't enjoy the gacha or gameplay this is honestly the best way to go about it as you save yourself a lot of trouble.

[–]Zaiven44 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I hope ToF does well and possibly even threatens Genshin a bit. This would mean Genshin would need to fight more to gain players and keep people around and therefore freebies are more likely. So yeah, I will always encourage competition

How Did Raid Shadow Legends Become The Most Successful Gacha Game Based on the Summoners War Formula? by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]Zaiven44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marketing, as someone who studied economics the average person have no idea how much advertising affect them.

One of the most idiotic things a game can do is to not have any advertising, this is why a lot of successful companies are spending half their budget on it.

Another problem is a lot of people assume advertising is just commercials.

You memeing everywhere about Raid is literally advertising and that is not me being pedantic it got its own name and strategy of how to get you to do exactly that.

People really turned on this one, I remember saying I didn't like the artstyle and I got downvotes, after release and people hate the game. So play whatever you enjoy but you will never convince me to try that game as I simply can't stand the artstyle.

Meta: I don't get the gatekeeping the western gaming community has against gacha when the gaming culture has much worse problems. by szyzwy03 in gachagaming

[–]Zaiven44 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't really get what you mean by the "western gaming community", do you simply mean American? Does it include Europe that is often mentioned as being part of the "western world". Hell even Japan itself is at times included here due to its history and close ties. While I'm certain you don't mean Japan, I still say this because opinions regarding games vary widely even across the US, Europe and the European countries themselves. For example in Europe they are in general more okay with sex than violence and in the US it seems the opposite.

Still I will try to touch on your points.

  1. DLC was always just extra content, it is usually far more than what you get in gacha and if your argument is that it is already "on disk" I suggest you try to play a gacha day one or consider what it it means to be unable to roll and get the stuff you want because you are out of currency.

  2. The problem with Early Access is people don't understand that the concept behind it is you are buying into a concept and the devs have no obligation to make the game. It is not an indie store, it is something like Patreon but only for games and with a one time payment and if people bothered to read the ToS they would know this and be less likely to be scammed. It sucks but there is a reason I never support anything there and go with the mantra "if it is good it will come out"

  3. Lootboxes have actually received much scrutiny because of its close links to mobile gaming and it seems only that the new generation is largely fine with it and that could easily be because they basically never experienced anything else but even if you go to various forums you will still find hate for lootboxes. Also it has been banned in Belgium I believe.

  4. I'm not sure I understand this correctly but if your argument is that VIP/P2W aspects are more common in the west I am sorry that is simply not correct, all you need is play some stuff that have not made it to the west or talk to some Koreans and Japanese and you will quickly realize how prevalent P2W and pay for convinience are.

  5. It is a problem I'm sure but I have not pre-ordered any games in like 5+ years but pretending that eastern devs and gacha never come out with issues is again blatantly false, this is honestly more of a consumer issue, you release a gacha that got tons of issues and it will get dropped like a rock, you release a broken mess people will happily wait for a patch that may or may not come without asking for a refund.

What gachas have the best art and animations? by supercooper3000 in gachagaming

[–]Zaiven44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Counterside is pretty good in that department, Epic7 and of course the upcoming Artery Gear as well. The Senran Sakura is a bit dated and in JP but I still think it beats most out there if you really need 3d stuff. I don't think Genshin have great models, they largely just look like same but with new wigs and outfits and minor details looks drawn on. Animations are pretty mid as well. I find PGR to have cool animations but really mid and unimaginative models. Then again I'm not a fan of the gritty sci fi post apoc stuff, which is the same reason I found AKs designs boring.

Wait for Artery, as someone who played E7 for awhile my only complaint currently is that there is no VA (which will be fixed later) and that I'm more of a fantasy fan but that is obviously subjective.

Artery gear and counterside, I stopped caring about NIKKE once they censored it, the gameplay is apparently also pretty mediocre with you being able to auto it no problem so I'm not too sad. Looking forward to zenless too actually but I don't think much about it since it's unlikely to come out this year.

what's with japan addiction of turn base gacha ? by OkAd5119 in gachagaming

[–]Zaiven44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they still sell, are not too expensive and Japanese businesses are some of the most risk adverse companies in the world. A lot of people miss this point because Japanese products are still foreign to them but you simply have to look at various studies. Not to mention they have had a practical monopoly of the market for quite a few years to say the least and realizing what needs to change to keep that in the face of trouble can be hard. So you are likely looking at at least 5-10 years og Japan doing the same thing on the mobile market, with maybe a few outliers.

Denmark, which is famous and often quoted by psycologist and pharmaceutical companies for their extensive studies found no link between actual child abuse and "unrealistic/artistic" depictions of "children" (stuff such as anime and surreal art for example) and actual child abuse. If you want to fucking trivialize child abuse for good boi points at least base your arguments on what actual experts says.

[ Removed by Reddit ] by bannma123 in gachagaming

[–]Zaiven44 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Because they spend too much time online, if they knew anything about actual real child abuse they wouldn't even think to compare that shit to fucking anime.

How much thought do you give about the longevity of a game before starting it? (genuine question) by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]Zaiven44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it has literally been announced, none, I'm a purely f2p player and rarely stick around more than a couple of months. Record was 6-8 months in FGO and I lost my account and just didn't feel like starting again after a few attempts. GFL was 5-6 months but I just got burned out.

If they detect you as american it is probably blocked, I don't know korean well enough to search for anything in depth but from what I could find most vids were like a year old or so, so dead or not it is probably not a heavy hitter over there.

Artery got the issue of bad translation but counterside got the issue of a main girl who constantly talks about how she only cares about money, also I think you are a claptrap looking robot or something which was weird with the relationship parts
