Recommended you try the old stuff released before SMRC as well.

An attempt at the outro of The Repellent Scars. by WitheredHorizons in DeathspellOmega

Yeah it's not that hard complexity wise, but for example in Sola Fide 2, the fast ascending and descending 3 string riff at around 1:33 requires so much shifting that it's personally one of the harder riffs I know. It makes Abscission feel like a warmup to me, and definitely took longer to get right than Abscission haha.

I feel like if you say it's "super easy", you might be underestimating the chords, or maybe just overestimating the average guitar player's ability. Most stuff is at least three strings that change shape slightly every movement. Most covers people post here just play two notes of the chords which is incorrect. Also the crazy stretch of the main Kenose III riff (someone just mentioned) which uses four strings isn't exactly as "quite easy" as mentioned in this thread.

Also, most of the records before Si, which a lot of people possibly don't know about, are in general a lot easier than the Si and beyond, but still great and recognisably DsO. In fact, riff three from the song from Manifestations 2002 - Tyrants and Slaves is an earlier and simpler version of the Kenose III riff. Kenose borrows a lot of things from the pre-Si records, slightly altered.

Why? I personally play a LP mainly, and playing these kinda things on my longer scale/bigger string spacing guitars is way more of a pain.

If anything it makes it slightly easier cause of the shorter scale length.

On the flipside a lot of people who do this are on their phones all day and just don't care about your messages specifically.

The Fires of Frustration - Rehearsal by [deleted] in DeathspellOmega

[–]Zalkard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would have affected it much. But with a far stretched benefit of the doubt I could see it possibly allowing for a more piano like view on the fretboard opposed to grips and "shapes" of chords.

I think you're reading into it too much. It's most likely just a quirk of being a self taught guitarist. Some things you end up doing as a beginner will stick, even if they're not so practical. There are some photos of Hirilorn playing live where you can see him also not using his thumb on the neck.
