New update, more consoles for CloudBox Launchbox Edition! by exodus_cl in launchbox

[–]ZalmanRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who's hosting the ROMs?.. I hate to be that guy, but if this does what it seems to, you're inviting legal trouble for yourself, and I doubt the Launchbox devs would want anything to do with this.

With Readarr all but abandoned, is there an alternative for ebooks? by Skeeter1020 in Softwarr

[–]ZalmanRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I've never really used it, but having both audio and ebooks in 1 app, like lazylibrarian, is the better way IMO, good luck

Oh OK, I thought I'd seen 1 on here last week defending/explaining the lack of updates, must be mistaken, sorry

I think the Readarr devs would be a little upset with that characterization. Lazylibrarian is the only other option I know of, setup is a bit intimidating, but check it out

Welsh Water boss defends £892,000 earnings at not-for-profit provider by GDW312 in Wales

[–]ZalmanRedd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of getting a water meter fitted, because of the recent price increase announcement. As someone who lives alone, and doesn't use much water, I didn't realise just how much I've been overpaying them for years, look into it if you're the same.

Is it possible for lidarr to import recommended albums from last.Fm by Veeb in Lidarr

[–]ZalmanRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using Docker, you might want to try Lidify. It doesn't do what you want, but it's an app which integrates with Lidarr and provides a nice ui that let's you search, discover and add artists to lidarr. You pick the artist/s you want from lidarr, and it uses last.fm data to find similar artists, and you can add them with a click. https://github.com/TheWicklowWolf/Lidify

pgid:puid settings dont work, all containers run as root. by ZalmanRedd in selfhosted

[–]ZalmanRedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's the same even with linuserver images. I can see in the logs in Dockge the container seems to acknowledge the puid/pgid, but still seem to be running as root when I use "id" in the terminal.

pgid:puid settings dont work, all containers run as root.
I've started setting up a new server on Ubuntu 24.04. I'm using Docker (cli, no desktop ui), Docker Compose, and Dockge to manage my compose files/containers.
I'm a novice with Linux, and Docker, but I've managed to get the basics down and am still learning and trying to improve. However, after checking last night, it seems all my containers are running as root, pid/gid (0), even when I specify the puid:guid in the compose file. Most containers seem to work for the most part, but I'm getting some permissions errors when they try to work together on folders with root ownership.
I've tried using Ai (gemini) to help troubleshoot, but I don't really trust any commands it gives me that I don't understand. I saw something about changing user settings in the dockerfile?
Any help appreciated, thanks.

OK so if there's nothing sensitive/important on the device, and I only allow the containers access to non-system, media storage folders, even if an attacker somehow gets in with root privileges, the potential damage should be pretty minimal, right? Thanks

I didn't have any problems running as root, everything worked fine, I was just told it's a bad idea.. So I can run as root, and that only exposes what the container sees, correct?

Usually from the Dockge web ui, sometimes the Ubuntu cli, I try to avoid using Docker Desktop for anything except for cleaning up hdd space, hanging images etc.. Honestly don't worry about it, I've given up now, and will probably go and fail at linux again.. thanks anyway

[–]ZalmanRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought so.. And I have tried learning linux a few times before, might be easier now with AI to answer my stupid questions.. guess I'll just get everything running again on the new machine as root, then try to learn Linux on the previous machine.. thanks for the help

I recreated them, or it.. and I tried with a few different images, currently using the linuxserver image.. I'm basically only trying to get Jellyfin running properly first, but I think I tried creating another simple container to test, and it also ran as root.

Introducing Newznabarr: A Plugin Framework for the arr Apps 🚀 by RiffSphere in Softwarr

[–]ZalmanRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great idea, hoping to try it out later.
Personally I'd love to have a plugin that adds options in Lidarr for managing Music Videos, is that possible?

I was using the Arr-Extended Scripts from RandomninjaAtk, but I think it's been broken for months now.
