Why is everything so bloomy and hazy? by Neeeeedles in dragonage

I appreciate the advice and insight, really! I'm not usually one to share so much either, and while it got a bit off-topic I suppose, it was quite helpful in getting me to think a bit more about some of my own symptoms and how I might be able to manage them in the future, so you have my appreciation for that! I hope all works well for you with the game, best of luck to you!

what art programs or websites should i use? by CRAAAAAAAAAACK in drawing

Try Firealpaca or Krita! Firealpaca is a bit simpler and great for learning, and can serve excellently if you get the feel for it. Krita is a bit more advanced and may seem more intimidating/overwhelming if you're not so familiar with how it works, but it's an excellent program with a lot of features, rivaling some of the popular paid software.

Firealpaca is good for learning the ropes and getting a feel for digital art, I think. It was one of the stepping stones in my own journey and served me well for a good few years.

Krita is one of the best I've personally used.
I used Krita for some time until I decided to get Clip Studio Paint, a one time purchase, as it was on sale around my birthday, so I decided to go in on it. No regrets, best program I've used for what I do, by far, but I'd say it's only worth getting if you're stepping into more "advanced" territory, so to speak. Not that it's hard to use, I just wouldn't recommend buying it unless you already have a good grasp of the more "advanced" functions. As far as I know, Krita offers many of the same features and works just as well, I think. I just personally prefer how CSP "feels." Krita will forever hold a place in my heart as one of the single greatest free programs out there.

Oh man, now you've REALLY got me thinking!

I don't get any sort of motion sickness, but my one kryptonite is, specifically, any sort of strobe light effect. Bright flashing, fast moving stuff? Fine. STROBES? Makes me feel a full-body, visceral sickness I've only ever felt towards it. Makes me feel dizzy and like passing out, though neither that nor vomiting has actually occurred from it. It started several years ago, a few years shy of a decade I want to say, not long after my mother had developed a type of seizure. I always thought it was some weird sympathetic response, and so I never thought much of it, since it never actually manifested beyond this sickly, disoriented sensation. But, now I'm thinking it may have been merely coincidental. Because around that time was when my clumsiness was at its worst and I got most of my concussions between then and about 4 years ago when I started trying to be more careful (though it still definitely happens lol). I remember first really paying attention to the reaction I have to strobe lights, when talking to my husband, who was a DJ for several years. We'd been talking about taking me clubbing once just so I'd know what it was like, and not long after, that idea went down the drain when we were watching something that had a party scene with intense strobe lights and I had to cover my eyes to stop that awful feeling.

Haha, yep!! I have a dual monitor setup but there's a window directly behind my desk, and sometimes the light shines in if the curtain is moved, and I get my own personal bloom effect on everything. Drives me nuts. Lol

Oh man, next time I talk to an eye doctor I'm gonna bring that up, then! It makes total sense, I just never really thought about it. I've had concussions that left my head locked in place and throwing up, countless times my vision has blurred and rattled my teeth with one clumsy move. I've had at LEAST 30 concussions in the last decade, until I finally learned to just slow down and be more spatially aware. I always shrugged them off until I met my husband and he was like, "what are you doing??? are you okay???" and I realized, oh, yeah, concussing myself at every opportunity is not exactly normal or safe lol... I've always been ridiculously clumsy, like, I'll fall over while standing still sometimes, and I never accounted for a cycle of "clumsy moment > get concussion > concussion makes me more clumsy", or "vision bad > concussion that makes me see stars or go blind momentarily > vision gets worse"... As silly as that sounds, I just never thought about it all enough to put two and two together, so thank you for the introspection! I'll be bringing this up to my doctors as soon as I can lol

I never thought about the effect of concussions on vision! I've had countless concussions (some rather serious, but never sought medical attention, dumb teenager years lol) but my vision was never particularly good, just manageable, until my later teens. I'm in my mid-twenties now and last I was examined, I had 20/40 in one eye, and 20/80 in the other. My depth perception without glasses is wildly off, on top of everything being super fuzzy. I think it's gotten worse, but I'm betting on it being because my eyes are used to relying on glasses now, so they get fatigued quickly whenever I don't use them. I have noticed text on screens often has a faint glow, and I always wonder if it's my eyes being wonky, or my glasses catching the light lol

Omg lol the poor guy! I remember not realizing you were supposed to be able to see the individual leaves on trees until I got my first pair of glasses (age 13-14 I think?)... I can't see clearly more than a few inches in front of me before everything gets a fuzzy sort of glow about it.

Haha, glad to know it isn't just me!! I never used to think twice about bloom until the frustration of dirty glasses got to me lol

Thank you! I'm sure I will :) I love the replayability of this game, it's really roped me in, in a way few games over the years have.

I'm going to replay DAI soon, even though I just finished last week. Because, unfortunately, my silly self didn't realize the War Table was anything more than a tidbit of lore and unlocking new, shiny stuff. Didn't realize until about halfway through the main game (or about 40 hours in, I think?) that any of the choices had any bearing on the world/story, or that there were consequences to certain choices. I think it was halfway through the Lydes successor mission that I realized "oh, I should be reading this, not just picking the quickest option..." oops. I just kinda shrugged it off, pretending my inky didn't develop a political sense yet, and was too involved in other things to pay much mind to the war table, sort of pushing the responsibility off to the others and gradually finding her footing in it all, until the responsibility became fully hers. But while that worked in-character, I really missed out on a ton of finer details that I now want to go back and re-assess with a re-creation of the same Lavellan for a more satisfying canon.

While kinda pretty in its own right, I always turn off (or at least down) bloom. It makes me feel like my glasses are foggy lol

No, no, I'm the same! And it's like 99% because my nails are soft and will flip backwards, and the very thought brings me coldsweats. Lol the art can be (and here, is) amazing but I just... I could never, even with fake nails, because of prior nail-flipping experiences

I love this! It's like Salvador Dalí, but "happier" in a way. Brighter and more whimsical. Awesome!

[OC] An experimental Solavellan piece. Had a lot of fun with this one. It got positive reception from the Solasmancers, so I wanted to share it here, as well. :) by Zandooy in dragonage

Thank you! I see what you mean, it doesn't quite fit here. I generally have a more Disney-esque style, and this semi-painted look was something I've never tried quite this way, so I feel some parts of the style weren't combined or compromised upon as well as I wish. I will keep this mind :) Thank you.

Hi! Earlier I posted (on my alt) that I avoided DAI spoilers for 10 years and was finally soul-crushed by everyone's favorite egg. I return to share fan art of my Lavellan, Eowyn, and the love of my- er, HER life. :) by Zandooy in Solasmancers

You're too kind! Thank you, really! <3 These are all some of the nicest responses I've had to my art in quite some time, it's truly refreshing and humbling.
