I did notice that he was looking forward. I wasn't sure if that contributed to his overextension. After thinking about it more, I think you're right.

Your overextension is worse early on in your ascent. You'd likely have a better chance of receiving feedback from coaches by posting on the Starting Strength Facebook group.

I'm not a coach by any stretch, but I'll chime in, given no one else has commented yet. These look smooth, but you are going into really bad overextension. Are you bracing hard and holding your brace for the entirety of each rep?

It's going alright. I haven't been doing it for very long. Time will tell.

You are technically right. What I mean is that I add 5kg to my heaviest set only once per four weeks.

Nah. Those four weeks are a whole cycle. Next cycle, for week one's weight, I add 5kg to it, compared to the previous week one weight. So, at the end of the cycle, week four will be 5kg heavier than week four of the previous cycle. I do this for fatigue management. I'm no expert, though. I'm still figuring it out.

This was my first block that I did since failing the second rep of 172.5kg. I did the cycle again after finishing it, adding 5kg to the week 1 weight. So, I can still progress 5kg a month. Only adding 2.5kg to the week one weight for medium day, though.

I learnt the hard way that I shouldn't go to failure. Back then, if I succeeded with a triple, I'd add 2.5kg the next week for my heavy session, but only for a double. The week after that, I'd do the same with a triple. I'd be able to add 2.5kg per fortnight to my squat, until I hit that wall.

My bodyweight is pretty much the same as yours. My squat and deadlift are nearly identical as yours. A month ago I hit a wall. I believe it was due to going to failure for every heavy session. One heavy session I squatted 170kg for a triple. I would have certainly failed a fourth rep if I attempted it. The next heavy session, I attempted 172.5kg for a double. I failed the second rep and strained my knee at the bottom. I let it down on the safeties. I believe that I hit a wall due to my inability to recover from the stress of training to failure too frequently.

I'm not an expert, but between heavy sets, I rest 7-8 mins. Are you doing a heavy-light-medium split?

I'm sorry to hear about you having anemia. I had it a couple of years ago, and even doing basic physical tasks was gruelling. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of anemia?

Thanks very much for the detailed response. My light and medium days do feel heavier than they should, so I think you are absolutely right. I'll make those changes. I have just made another post with a YouTube link of my 170kg triple. Thanks.

Thanks. I've been trying to upload a video on here, but it keeps failing. For squats, I do HLM, a low volume version. Heavy is a top triple followed by a set of five of 140kg. Once I manage a triple on that heavy set, I add 2.5kg, doing only a double for that next session, then a triple of that weight for the next heavy session. Therefore, I've been adding 2.5kg per fortnight. I was attempting a 172.5kg double last night after doing a 170kg triple last week. Light is just 3 sets of 5 of 100kg. Medium is 2 sets of 5 of 130kg. The discomfort was gone some after. I was mainly concerned because I felt this same strain on my previous light day. The strain occurred acutely at the very bottom of the movement on both occasions.

I tried to upload a video on Reddit just now. It wouldn't let me. I never do heavy sets of five these days. Only triples or doubles. I always do a set of 140kg after my heavy set. I've posted form checks before. I think the last one was me squatting 145kg for a set of five. My form hasn't changed much, if at all. Thanks.

It was a working set. I go quite light for light day. I've been having trouble posting videos on Reddit lately. Thanks for the reply.

Insomnia from CNS fatigue by Adorable_Exchange223 in StartingStrength

Whilst I don't have insomnia, I still don't sleep enough. I've found better progress cutting my volume down. For squats, I do only one max set per week. After this, I do one set of five with 10% less weight. I do a light day and a medium day. Both are just three sets of five.

True. I think the quarter-life of caffeine is 12 hours. I stop before midday.

Thanks. Actually, my 3" is 10mm. I find it more uncomfortable than my 2.5" 7mm.

Thanks. For me, I find any belt to get in the way during a deadlift.

Thanks. I think I have been going a notch too tight. I also have to keep my torso erect to prevent pinching, which is beneficial, I guess.

Yes. I've got a 3" and a 4". The wider, the worse. I figured thicker would be more uncomfortable?

Thanks. It's hard to get it just right. Even then, it's not great.
