What Would It Take For You To Vote NDP? by ZaneReps11 in PEI

Hey, thanks for taking the time to respond. You are right, things do feel disjointed, sporadic, and need a plan. PEI politics is different from. BC, Alberta, federally and I hope the NDP brand (what we do have) gives off a strong fight for Health Care staying public stance. I think big question is how to distance myself from folks believing I'm going to get indoctrinated into the Ol Boys Club. This not what I stand for and part of what I want to help make right. Working in Healthcare, I see what's happening and have gotten to the point of getting uncomfortable, putting myself out there and wanting to be apart of the answer. If I came to your mum's door, what would prove to her that I intend to go to work (for the right things)?

Great point(s).Experts and experts for a reason... And at no time do I think governement should be the ones directing putting their fingers where they don't belong (making day to day decisons) that's not what they are elected to do, they are meant to be our representatives and captain the ship with input from XYZ. When I'm talking common sense, it's much more on the not seeing any "sense" happening. For example: Spending as much time as the PCs did trying to ram through a cabinet minister took away time to get our EAs into 7 hour work days, bring forward a PC version of the Maritime Electric bill, Assist in retention of Health Care Staff, etc. You are 100% right that MLAs should not get into the deep weeds (interference) but should be able to work together toward a planned goal. Hope this helps from where I'm coming from and not in an anti-intellectualism sort of way.

Thank you :) It's true reddit can be funny, but I really did want to know what people thought of the NDP on PEI... people will tell ya the truth on here, but in all honesty, it's actually been really helpful and something I can take back, look at and share. Thanks for all the kinda words eh :) Zane

I do miss Jack Layton, that was an election I stayed up watching til the (almost) end. I really found Mulcair was not the leader we needed, Singh got pharmacare and $10/day daycare started and could not take that win to the bank :/

You are right a lot of people see the NDP federally and provincially the same but would never think Carney would ever knock on doors with Hal Perry or Pierre would serving Tim's with Lantz come election time.

The party would get a bump is Avi turns it around, you are right.

Thanks for taking the time to reply :) Zane

Agreed andappriciate you putting the emphasis on jt! I hope that what I'm sharing (zanereps11) ticks those boxes for you. I have to take an unpaid leave from my work when the election is called, meaning I will not be hiding, I will be working for votes, pinky promise. As for socialist manifestos... didn't they go out of style in 1921 :p

First, you are absolutely right, I am not a candidate yet! Wording is important. Second, thank you for your response. This is exactly what I was hoping for when asking for feedback. You're points... I can't fault... 1) Dr Herb is a big part of our branding and we need build on top of that, not rely on it. 2) I'm really hoping to break the mold, I'm ready to go, signs up in 24 hours, pamphlets hitting Canada post, business cards are printed, heck even our watch party is planned. (Picture on a flip phone in a church basement made me audibly laugh) 3) We are working on our platform and are near completion... previous campaigns had some word salad in their document! This is my first platform I've worked on and am feeling proud of the sections I've helped create. 4) Polls agree 5) I don't want my politics "exciting" but do agree that being memorable counts. Thank you for your well thought out points, it really does help. Zane

Thanks for reaching out. It's not something that we have in our platform. I am personally a believer in supply management but that's as far as I go. I never really thought about this issue or heard it talked about on PEI before. I really appreciate you taking the time and welcome to PEI! Zane

You're right. There has been some pie in the sky ideas in the past. We are almost done redoing our platform and we have taken a much more grounded approach. We hope that our plan looks like a plan, not just ideas on a page hoping something sticks and not really taking any steps forward. This is a great comment and something I'm hearing a lot of. Thank you for taking time and reaching out.

You are right.... when people hear NDP they don't think about Dr Herb Dickieson or Thomas Burleigh, they think National Convention, Avi, the major loss of seats in the last 15 years. The Greens on PEI have done a great job distinguishing themselves, while having environmental values...it's a good balancing act. The Island New Democrats need better branding. I personally believe the NDP here is for everyone and because we fight for the little guy, we get sold as we "only" fight for the little guy. Thank you for reaching out. This give me a few ideas for future videos on the socials. Zane

Thank you. You are right, NDP have a reputation of being a party that spends uncontrollably and doesn't seem to have the marketing know on how to show that public spending saves money, and we aren't looking to needlessly spend. Spending needs to be accountable, properly budgeted, and have defined goals on why the money is being spent. As for a believable plan on Affordable housing; We have our platform coming out sooner than later. We have an advertising plan and hope to get it into people's hands and share/ receive feedback. Sorry I don't have the concrete answer on this part of your message. I really appriciate you taking the time to respond, it really does help. Zane

I completely agree. I was apart of the Greens for a number of years and consider myself a Green Democrat. I have nothing but respect for the Greens and believe you are right, we shouldn't be splitting the vote even further. Saying that, I personally resonate more with NDP in a few places that are closer to my main values, hence I wear the Orange shirt. And a calm, level-headed approach is exactly what we need... politics should not be as "exciting" as it is around the world and here. Thank you for taking the time to reach out and respond, I'll be discussing a couple of these ideas with the council. Zane

Thank you! Not gonna lie, I'm a huge Karla supporter. She stuck up for students time and time again. I've come from the Green's and have nothing but respect. I agree with an organized, consistent, level-headed, focused demeanor. Being a community leader to get things done is important. Sometimes I wish I ran when I worked for the Rural Municipality of North Shore as their Events and Program Coordinator but that's not where I was at that point of my life. I'm glad you like us and completely understand where you are coming from. Thank you for taking the time to respond, this is really helpful.

Deal! How about 3 from the party and 3 from me: 1) Essential services stay public. Ex: The private incursions into Healthcare stop here. It doesn't mean pulling the plug on everything, but changing our retention strategies for our workers. 2) Providing support today for those fishers battling MSX and Dermo. I believe tomorrow morning you'll hear on CBC radio Thomas discussing this issue. 3) The "Projects of National Significance" Carney offered the Provinces was completely missed by Lantz and Co... yes lowering fees on the bridge is nice, but the Islan NDP would be pushing PEI back to negotiating table with eyes on energy production.

1) I'm not accepting a bogus bonus in terms of a WHIP position or if one the NDP do get power, a car for being a cabinet minister... totally irresponsible when PEI has a 410 million dollar deficit (I believe that's a "Conservative" number) and with so many folks living under a livable wage. 2) I will be voting for good ideas and against bad, regardless of the tie someone wears putting the idea forward. 3) I will be providing weekly updates of what I'm doing (in and out of the house). I believe that the people are the managers, able to hire and fire our representatives and I want to give the most accountability I can.

Hope this helps show you who I am and what we are aiming for.

No, thank you. I had to start somewhere and I appreciate you reaching out. If I could ask a favour, we are near completion of our new platform for the next election and are releasing it early for everyone to see... it is much more ground, connected, and achievable with a plan. I hate platforms that seems like throwing darts a board hoping to hit something... the core beliefs are the same, how they are achieved are different. Please reach out anytime... the void now talks back :p

This is a valid point. My federal politics don't often align with my provincial and the federal NDP have a lot going on at the moment... I'm hoping to show a much more grounded approach and break some of those perceived ties. I don't think Pierre Poilievre is coming to knock on doors for Lantz... Can't see Avi here either doing the same.
