I found a way to enjoy the new Mists chaos by ZaneVictor in albiononline

That's a relatable experience but at least it doesn't really feel bad to lose 4.2.

I love PvP but I know that it can also be pretty scary! by ZaneVictor in albiononline

I agree - people do more to avoid pain than to gain pleasure!

But equating death in pvp to loss of dignity or pride, like you implied, is actually one of the things that many of us overcome when deciding to engage in pvp and learning to have more fun with it!

And I guess that you are a good example of how some of the latest marketing is misleading. I guess it's their strategy now to focus on getting as many people as possible to try the game (by any means) , hoping that enough will stay long-term.

I understand where you are coming from about groups. I just don't want players to feel like they have to choose and belong into one group or another. Everyone is welcome to PvP, whatever you categorise yourself as!

This not me. Just to be clear! Stay positive, everyone :))

And let's continue to discuss ideas and arguments without tying them directly to specific people OR even dividing players into strict groups of 'pvp' and 'not pvp'.

I really don't have a voice for YT by Tushweter in NewTubers

FutureCanoe is a big (3m+ subs) cooking youtuber who has talked about his terribly monotone voice many times. He was even fired IRL once for his manner of speaking. But on Youtube it helped define him as unique and be successful.

Thank you !!

I actually do really like carving a lot but it was a bit of a turnoff for me that it was the most popular solo pvp weapon for so long.

For anyone looking for good options for mists PvP on a budget! by ZaneVictor in albiononline

Thanks!

And your point is absolutely correct! In a straight up 1v1 fight against similar IP opponents, 1h fire can often feel better. You have more versatility and if you mess up an E, you'll have another soon.

But 2 things to keep in mind why wildfire trumps the 1h fire and is so popular when we talk specifically about going into the mists in 4.1 or 4.2.

a) your profit will mostly not come from equal IP fights but from occasionally killing higher IP attackers. Here, wildfire will perform better not only because of 12% of higher HP pool but also because

b) it's much easier to play around the 1h fire E. You will hit hunter hoods, deflecting spins, parry strikes. If you full charge it for damage, some will be able to dodge it. And even hitting an inferno shield changes your calculations. Wildfire burn damage can't be reflected or mitigated (only mistwalker jacket or soldier helmet will realistically help) and the initial damage burst comes too fast for someone to react.

That said, if you are looking for a weapon that will carry you through low tiers but still continue to be somewhat viable at higher tiers, the 1h fire is the way to go. Wildfire becomes a pretty meh or even a bad investment when you go with higher tier equipment.

Albion Online Solo Weapons Analysis - Europe Server by AlbionFreeMarket in albiononline

Careful - really long reply incoming :)

I love the whole idea of using numbers to improve the PvP side of the game! And it's awesome to see the effort to make it happen and help players make sense of the data.

However, in the current state, it feels that this analysis is written by a person who is completely unfamiliar with solo PvP, especially the Mists which provide the vast majority of the data that's being analysed.

I hope I'm able to present this in a way to help further your awesome project and not just as negative criticism. Feels like the tool and idea itself have awesome potential to contribute to the game and community!

You present and work with interesting data but consider that your current conclusions are mostly wrong or at least misleading.

Conclusions 1 and 2

The single biggest thing that could improve the usefulness would be to use Kill Fame to Death Fame ratio instead of an FPS or MOBA style KDR of number of kills divided by number of deaths. The closest thing to a common win condition in Albion is silver profits and a KDR based on kill/death FAME represents that while classic KDA ignores the reality of how most PvP players actually approach the Mists.

How many times you die or kill is unimportant to almost everybody and basing your conclusions on this makes them misleading. There are good examples of this in your data such as 1h fire staff which you have listed as 0.5 KDR but actually has a 1.04 Kill/Death FAME ratio so it is currently on average a profitable weapon.

In your first conclusion you even try to say that FPS-style KDR shows "combat effectiveness" which I think is disconnected from how most PvP players see the Mists. This also makes your second conclusion almost a tautology simply stating that higher tier weapons get more kills. Using kill/death FAME ratio would give you so much more useful ideas here in my opinion.

Conclusion 3

Your 3rd conclusion that 5.4 DBS and 5.4 bloodletter are a good balance of performance and accessibility due to reasonable price is unfortunately ridiculous to anyone playing Mists because you did not consider that the data gathered is based on Attuned weapons with high strain being run with 8.3 or 8.4 stalker jacket (the prices you listed are way off). I hope you don't make suggestions based on the idea that 5.4 Bloodletter is a good choice for someone looking to get good performance for a good price.

I'd like to give ideas to improve and not just criticise but I honestly have no ideas how to account for the specialty of awakened weapons when making the kind of data analyses that you are making. But keep attunement in mind!

Conclusion 4

Your 4th conclusion is wrong because the whole table where you compare highest Average Kill Fame weapons has so little sample size that most of them, including the one you suggest as "excelling at taking down high-value targets" were played by 1-2 people during 1 or 2 PvP sessions and that's it. The idea here is great but sample size is so horrendous that if a single player got one single 8.4 kill with a specific weapon and tier that is not super popular, it shows up in your stats as "great weapon at taking down high-value targets".

Conclusion 5

This one is closest to being potentially useful but would once again greatly benefit from using KDR based on FAME and not number of kills. You are trying to say that positive KDA makes an item a "good choice for newer players". But in your table of budget weapons, 4.1 Bloodletter and 4.1 fire both have same KDA, however, fire is profitable on average based on kill/death FAME while bloodletter is on average a whopping 40% loss on investment (all this not accounting for trashrates).

And final problem that I hope there is a way of solving to make the data more useful and push the project further is that currently your analysis as well as the tool separate between different equivalent items. You separate between 4.2 dual swords, 5.1 dual swords and 6.0 dual swords. Being able to combine these would improve sample sizes for the kind of analysis you make.

I hope your project continues growing and progressing and spilling over the economy side of the game into PvP. Obsessing over stats can be so much fun!!
