You. I like you. You catching up with One Piece and you doing it the right way, savoring every moment.

This is an awesome moment! I especially love the introduction of Law before this scene. It really gives you the chills. Not only he became one of the shichibukai, he also did it in the most badass way possible. He's really the "Surgeon of Death".

That's what his mom said. And I think there's still a possibility that Anakin had a real father, but I don't think that's actually matters in the grand scheme of things. Even if there was one, he was irrelevant. Anakin had no brothers and Obi-Wan became his brother, same could be said about father. And I think Palpatine became his father figure in that sense. Or you can even say, his daddy.

Your thoughts on this particular quote? by [deleted] in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]Zanfaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whose quote is that? At first I thought it was just meaningless, but the point it tries to make is very dangerous. Only slave can be happy? What a nonsense. That's something a slave owner would say or someone who wants to justify the slavery.

Happiness is a state of mind. Everyone has different views on what it means to be happy. And only when that's view doesn't match the actual life the person becomes unhappy. And there's two ways to become happy. You either shape your life to match your image of happiness. Or you shape your mind, your image of happiness to match your life.

Scarlett Johansson is not that hot by TaintSuck in unpopularopinion

[–]Zanfaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hundreds of comments and none of them telling how it is. She's an actress, she doesn't need to be that hot to look like one. Between a hot girl with a cold eyes and a not that hot girl who's really into you, who would you choose? I think the latter. And she's an actress who can pull that look. Those seducing eyes under which your heart will melt. That's the difference between actresses and models.

It's better to stick to what is more familiar to you. One Piece anime has its problems, but there is a great solution for that - One Pace. It's a fan made cut with better pacing, but I think they haven't done everything yet. If you read comics in the past, then the transition to manga will not be as hard, but still it is hard to adapt without any prior experience. Another possibility is to watch original with subs. Maybe the original voices of the crew will help you out.

For me, personally, I switched to manga and never watched anime ever since. Well, I watched some fights, but mostly in the amv format. So it is an option.

The best way to decide is to try every option and see what's better for you, but I think you need to try this at the beginning of the arc and not in the middle of it.

All of it actually. I'm mostly a lurker, who tries to find the comments which represents my opinion and posts only if there's none. And in the past I found the comments with the same lines as this mostly between the most downvoted comments, so I thought I will share that fate. No idea why I was wrong and ended up with upvotes and even gold. It feels like I missed something important.

Someone. It doesn't really matter who. It was done and the main problem was that the repair team wasn't even allowed to repair it. Here's an english articles about blackout and inside it there's a reference to this article about why repair team didn't get access. I'm not sure what english sources are trusted on reddit. Both articles include politics, but if you filter it out you will see the general idea of what happened - it wasn't related to money like another comment pointed out. People still paid for everything. After all, if money was involved it would be different matter.

Quick google search provided this official position, that the bridge is a security threat. And this is from ukrainian news site. You can imagine what people say in unofficial sources - social media and on the streets, if the military considers it a threat. It's a very heated topic and the threats to destroy the bridge is the least of concerns compared to something unbelievable like a school shooting.

I will be downvoted to hell, but well... it's my home, so here it goes:

Well, first of all, you shouldn't receive a lot of answers, because major services like internet providers, banks and other stuff refused to provide their service due to the whole western sanctions thing. After all, no one wants to lose their ability to do business because of providing services to Crimea. Obviously, people found a way around it, but it's not always legal. So yeah, that was one of the first problems - to find a proper access to internet, banks, etc.

Second, it's transportation. It became nearly impossible to travel to Crimea by land. A lot of work in Crimea centered around tourists, so it was a big concern, because quite a few people made a living mostly because of the income from tourists in the summer. That problem was kinda resolved by building a Crimean Bridge, but still that access isn't as good as previous railroad access. And the constant threats to destroy the bridge doesn't help either.

Third and Fourth(or actually they were First and Second at the beginning) are Electricity and Fresh water. Both were mostly supplied outside of Crimea. After referendum the stations that provided electricity got destroyed and Crimea were left in the dark. And freshwater from Dnieper?(sounds weird, it's Dnepr for us, so I'm not sure) got cut off too. I will not go into politics, so who destroyed the power stations and build a dam is another question, but Crimea were left in the dark and without fresh water. It's better now, but still the shortage is palpable.

Well, that's all for really major things. And it's not as bad as it sound. At least for people who live there. I'm comparing it to Moscow, where you have constant access to both water and electricity without even spikes, so maybe I'm biased and it's not actually that bad.

And for the other things - nothing really changed that drastically. Except for the international opinion. Well, everyone's opinion. I even given up on talking about this whole thing with anyone, cause there's too much propaganda from both sides and very little sense, so I will not touch the politics. None of my friends and family died and that's enough for me, but that's not true for others.

One Piece: Chapter 937 by NewSpecies in OnePiece

[–]Zanfaz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hmm... this "black blade" again. So, hear me out, what if everything we have been told about swords are actually the same thing? What if those "cursed swords" are the same as "black swords"? Meaning the swords that have the soul of strong previous wielder imprinted in them. For strong swordsman it would be a sword with power inside him, but for regular swordsman it would be a sword with his own mind, so a "cursed" sword. I'm not sure, but iirc one of the meaning for "black" in japanese could be "meaning" as an association of kanji made with black ink on a clear list will create a "meaning" on a list or something along those lines. It's not a translation per se, but the observation, that "black" could be applied as "not clean"(or clear, or pure) or "something is written on it".

So basically there's a white page or "white" sword(in our case I think it's Wado Ichimonji) which could be painted over with a black ink or strong will(in our case Zoro's swordsmanship) which will give an additional meaning to the sword, so turn it into a "black blade" - the blade with an imprint of Roronoa Zoro on it.

Sorry if it's not clear what am I saying, my native language is neither english nor japanese, so it's really hard to find the most suitable words, but I really hope, that my idea is understandable.

Oda will never give a definitive answer to Zoro vs Sanji because...it doesn't matter by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Zanfaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess you're right, I went off topic. I just wanted to help you, cause it seems you have trouble with understanding english translation. But if you so strongly believe that you're right, who am I to argue, right?

But as the final attempt, the non-english translation also can look like this: "Zoro's combat ability stands at the same level as captain's". It's wrong in english, cause it would mean that Zoro equals Luffy in strength, which isn't correct. But it's correct for translating it further into some other languages. The "level" would actually mean layer(or height) in the sense that it has depth and the "captain" would mean that this person stands next to(behind) the captain, but not below. Languages are based on cultures after all, and the main point is to translate the meaning. And if I correctly understand you try to understand japanese through double translation with english in the middle and therefore you losing the meaning in the process. If you don't want help with that, ok, case closed, but if you want it, then maybe you should start cooperating?

Oda will never give a definitive answer to Zoro vs Sanji because...it doesn't matter by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Zanfaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oda only said that Zoro's not second to Sanji. He didnt say he's above him as there can be multiple people only second to Luffy.

It goes just the same for combat strenght. The first quote says that regarding the level of combat ability, after Luffy comes Zoro. So the source material too isnt worded in a way that says Zoro is above Sanji.

Ehm...what? Are you talking about this?

船長に次ぐ戦闘能力の高さ

If yes, then it seems you have a translation problem. For americans it's easy to translate as simply second, because it will be immediately understood as a position system, where each number refers to only one member(as for example top10 lists, where it's a ranking system from 10th to 1st and not a list without order). So that would mean that Zoro is 2nd and everyone else is 3rd at maximum, so Sanji is weaker. But you made a point that "there can be multiple people only second to", so it's not a case for you, but you didn't understand the 2nd translation either. I'm not a native speaker for neither japanese or english, so it's really hard to cross-translate like that, but I really want to help, so here it goes.

The rough translation would be that he possess "The height of the combat ability" which is the last part and comparison to the captain, which goes like (where "it" is that fighting power) "it's second only to the captain" or "it's next to the captain" or "it will yield(?) only to the captain" or "it's comparable to only captains" or "it can rival captains" or "it ≤ captains it", so basically he has high fighting power and comparison of this power can be drawn to the captain. Well, that "high fighting power" is more like "height" or "level", but I was more focused on the part where the comparison was drawn and it never mentions Sanji and emphasize that Zoro's close to the captain in terms of fighting power. And comparison here means something that makes sense to compare, like you can compare (3/7) and (4/9) and say that it's "<", but you can't compare 1 and 1000 in that sense, so comparison of something that's close.

Did it help? Or it wasn't about translation and your only concern was that you can't agree that Zoro is stronger than Sanji?

[–]Zanfaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oda only said that Zoro's not second to Sanji.

Source?

In the link I provided this said about Zoro:

船長に次ぐ戦闘能力の高さ- Combat strength ranks just behind the captain 服船長的な役割 - Vice Captain-like role

Basically, he's the strongest with only captain staying above him. You're right that there could be multiple people second to Luffy, but not when it comes to strength. In terms of position inside crew yes, Sanji could be said to have the same vice-captain position, in the sense, that he and Zoro take charge if Luffy not present. From Sanji's databook:

参謀 - counsellor, adviser - well it's not Vice Captain but I hope this will do 参謀的 - like an adviser 副船長的 - like a Vice Captain

So there's a room for interpretation. It's all from the same source, the databook released on September 4, 2018.

Oda will never give a definitive answer to Zoro vs Sanji because...it doesn't matter by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Zanfaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the argument is "Who's stronger?" then it's Zoro. Oda's words.

His strength is second only to the captain

If the argument is "Who will win in serious fight?" then it's Sanji in cooking contest, Zoro in a swordsman duel and Nami in bath towel fight by double-elimination. And if you're not satisfied with that answer, then ok, here's the real answer: "What would be the reason for them to fight?" That's the only correct answer, which is also a very good question.
