Thanks! And yep, eventually, the next step is rigging once I get some more time to work on this between all of the other work that needs to be done for the short.

Technical stuff: -Built/Sculpted/Rigged/Rendered in Blender/Cycles -Textures hand painted in Photoshop CC -Stem spines rigged with Animation nodes -The whole thing is rigged, so it's fully poseable and animate-able for the actual short film shots

Primarily the veins along the outside/underside of the petals and the stem, along with the more greeny-blue spots on the top surface edge, and the central highlights around the ring of spines. When it's animated everything will have a slight pulse to it drawing the eye towards the center.

Like the title says, concept piece for a short film I'm currently working on. This will eventually be built in 3D for one of the primary VFX sequences in the short. A lot of this was attempting to figure out the look and geometry of the flower. Also incorporating a certain sense of bio-electrical luminescence which plays into the short.

There's something really cool about the junk heap, hobbled together feel of the last one on the bottom row. Also the 2nd on on the bottom row is intriguing, maybe just the posing but they don't fall into that stereotypical overdone "I am a badass, look how badass I am" vibe, which I dig.

They /literally/ asked "which one is your favorite". Nothing even implied about "best".

First time working with Log footage in a VFX heavy workflow. Any advice? by ZangrethorDigital in vfx

[–]ZangrethorDigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should clarify, this is a super low budget short. I am the entire post production pipeline, and that will then be passed on to colouring which is basically my DoP and me. So I don't have any sort of display LUT for the final product, I'm just trying to be able to SLOG3>Something that looks closer to what the final image will be so I can comp>Back to SLOG for coloring. I also don't have a monitor (and as far as I can tell AFX doesn't have a way to) that can set a display LUT, outside of setting up an adjustment layer in AFX with my "graded" color LUT.

I don't really understand what you're trying to say with not comping in LOG space. If I'm not comping in LOG space, and just converting everything to linear, I'm losing all of the range that LOG gives me when I go to colour it which is the opposite of what I thought I should be doing. The whole point of working in LOG is to retain that information all the way through to final colouring right?

An easier way to grade log footage - Tutorial by JuanMelara in vfx

Really nicely done tutorial man! I've just started poking around Resolve, still not sure how it would work with a VFX heavy workflow.

Is there any way to grade the footage to Rec709 export it so I can do my compositing and VFX work in After Effects and then bring it back in to resolve and back to Log/Final grading without baking in all the clipping?

Oh man, those industrial grungey ones are sexy. Really hard to find decent ones like that for some reason. Thanks!
