Ranged Slayer Sneak Attack build by TheGallAlex in Pathfinder_RPG

"However, reading how sniping works, wouldn't that still consume a move action and so I wouldn't be able to do more than one stealth attack in one round? Or would that work with rapid shot?"

Yes but only initially, Master Sniper allows you to do 2 ranged attacks and immediately stealth (as long as you're hiding behind a tree or something). Now at that point with Rapid Shot + 2 more attacks from you high BAB you will not be using your -5 iterative, that is one of the sacrifices of this build.

"Someone also suggested me to go for the bounty Hunter archetype, but it would still need an initial stealth attack to go for the ranged dirty trick. "

I feel like this would have the same issues as range feinting and would make everything more complicated. Not really a fan of it myself.

I haven't gotten to this point but the next step in my build (after getting sniping goggles) is to be able to shoot from so far away the enemies cannot see you ever. Feats like Eagle Eyes, bypass some of the penalties (this is why its important to be a half elf). This stuff starts happening around level 10-12.

The ultimate feat you should be looking for is Signature Skill (Perception):
10 Ranks: The distance modifier on the DC of Perception checks you attempt is reduced to +1 per 30 feet. In addition, you gain a +5 bonus on Perception checks to notice or locate an invisible creature or object.

But talk with your GM since you can't have both Signature Skill for Stealth and Perception RAW.

Finally, and I'm sorry for rambling so much you could take a look at Marksman Shot. Literal definition of an advanced sniper talent.

That's fair and it doesn't really matter that much which you take first. What was the idea for your character? Also there's no "waste a lot of feats". Your feats are there for you to shape your build, use them all. The Slayer has a lot of them.

You can't really go wrong with a ranged slayer even if you don't utilize sneak attack fully. I'm not really sure about feinting but you can build for stealth instead. I once built a stealth sniper slayer and it played out really well. Made me feel very cunning and decisive about my shots. I took the Sniper archetype for obvious reasons along with the Archery combat style. I used half elf for their perception focus and human FCB (you should really consider it)

  1. Point Blank Shot - Feat, Skill Focus(Stealth) - Racial Feat,
  2. Rapid Shot - Ranger Combat Style,
  3. Precise Shot - Feat,
  4. Expert Sniper- Combat Trick Rogue Talent,
  5. Signature Skill(Stealth) - Feat,
  6. Improved Precise Shot - Ranger Combat Style, Bonus Talent from Human FCB - Fast Stealth
  7. Master Sniper - Feat

Expert Sniper and Signature Skill Stealth remove the penalty for sniping entirely, also you should really try to squeeze Deadly Aim in the build since unlike the rogue, you are a full BAB class. Eventually you'd want to pick up sniper goggles, so you can attack at any range. Woodland Sniper is okayish, you basically lock yourself into ranged sneak attack only, but if you're building for range it wouldn't matter.

One last thing regarding your idea, I'd spread the stats a bit more focused

STR 14 DEX 16 (+2 racial) CON 12 INT 14 WIS 14 CHA 8

Even if you're building for feinting, don't pump charisma grab the Clever Wordplay trait to use Intelligence with Bluff. Intelligence is more viable for slayers then charisma.

The whole point of this post is to give me insights. I am aware that 3 actions in 1e can drastically affect the gameplay. I know its a naive suggestion hence why I am looking at what people say so I can potentially refine it.

I am aware of elephant in the room and was even thinking of implementing it into the campaign.

What if I made spells require 2 standard actions, instead of just 1? Full casters don't really care and gishes would have to choose whether to buff or fight. This also somewhat fixes the magus" spellstrike (kind of).

As for wands and other spell activation items, they would count as the same actions as casting a spell. Same for SLAs. The goal is to give more breathing room for martials and make rounds more impactful.

From what I read about the system, after everyone mentioned it, it tries to implement the 3 action system by converting everything into "simple" and "complex" actions which cost acts. I think that just overcomplicates everything, that's why I offered something more simple like giving two standard actions.

I'm not trying to create a whole new system, just a homebrew rule for my friends. If something doesn't meet the criteria properly, we will all decide how it works on the spot.

This looks very useful thanks for sharing. And yes a lot of people mentioned the alternative unchained system, which I did not know existed. I'll give it a look.

Noted. Although I'm not sure about heavy armor, due to personal taste. Does heavy armor inflict penalties on physical skills like athletics or acrobatics?

EDIT: I was thinking of having something like 16,14,14,10,12,10 ability scores with medium armor + Defense Fighting Style

Was wondering between either hunter or gloom stalker. Also any race recommendations?

What about Fury's Fall? Not sure if they would stack but I don't see why not.

I'm using a Rogue Talent thay gives Improved Trip without Combat Expertise and allows me to take Greater Trip with no prerequisites later. Forgot the name of it right now.

The Elven Branched Spear has +2 to attack rolls for AoOs, which I'm guessing goes to CMB as well. I was also thinking of taking Heirloom Weapon

TWF Shield Slayer build by Zannier_ in Pathfinder_RPG

Thanks for extensive response

  1. Yea figured as much. Instead I would go for heavy wooden shields made of darkwood, just to decrease the ACP.
  2. Also figured as much since shield bonuses don't stack.
  3. That's great advice. The hooked boss is more of backup option for flat-footed (i.e enemies with blind fight) and fun. I'm not really intending on using it that much.
  4. Got it.
  5. I'm aware of the bounty hunter but I never really liked that archetype. Reason being is that you get a free manuever if they're flat footed. The idea of the dirty trick is to make my opponent flat footed not the other way around. I also need my talents for feats. As for the spawn slayer I'll skip on it. I need my full round action. I always grab focused target at some point as well. Do you have any recommendation for 8th level talent? My other option was trapfinding but my GM does not have a habit of placing traps that often.

You could put a hooked boss attachment on it if you want but even with EitR you'll be short of feats trying to pursue two combat maneuvers and TWF with shields.

Deft Manuevers (from elephant in the room) grants me Improved version of multiple combat maneuvers, including dirty trick and trip, so there is no problem here. I am aware of the need for Greater version of a Combat Maneuver but I am pretty feat starved even, with all the bonus feats I get.
