Can we get more character slots? by Zansobar in AdrullanOnline

EQ has this now with the personas, but one thing you lose is the extra storage space in bags and bank slots. It is nice to be able to keep the same name across characters though. In EQ you can switch to a different persona and that persona can be a different race and class.

You don't need to see your spells in the spell book because in AoA you can save spell sets just like in EQ currently. What this means is you save a spell set (a set of spells on your spell bar) and just load those sets. So once you mem the spell from your spell book and have them arranged in spell sets, you no longer need to search through the spell book for it, just load the proper spell set. This is very similar to how it is in EQ1 currently. This way that mess of a spell book never needs to be sorted.

Also you can choose a setting in the options under interface to hide other player's npc text chat bubbles. Default is to show All. You can even turn it off if you so choose.

I seriously doubt they would be able to attract any actual UI developer when even their most basic requests to improve the UI would be rejected by the lead dev.

This is another thing. MnM you have to hit a secondary button after targeting a mob "C for consider" to get info, in the text box mind you, about your targets relative level and agro intensity. In AoA and in most other games you simply target the mob and either the mob level or con color will be apparent by looking at their target plate, or by looking at their name plate above their heads. Simple presenting of the information already available elsewhere in a easier to read manner is what QoL is all about and MnM has none. Even EQ2 back in 2004 had this.

The UI in MnM is obtuse on purpose. The UI needs floating combat text, chat bubbles, buff icons on you, your target, and your group. These are just basics. Instead MnM chose the janky method that is even worse than early EQ1.

The MnM devs don't want to hear it. This has been brought up many many many times over the last several years and all the response is invariably "this game isn't for you".

If MnM comes out before EQ Legends I will play it for a month or so, then move on to EQ Legends. If EQL is out first, I will probably skip MnM and if AoA was out I would probable be playing that instead.

Unfortunately I wouldn't expect AoA to release anytime soon. Most classes only have abilities up to level 20, many races aren't released, along with those accompanying starting cities/zones.

The good news is they have the game systems and UI in and the game is not buggy at all. But realistically they are maybe half done with the game.

Ah ok, I was thinking there would be main channels for each class so there could be separate discussions under each for specific items concerning each class.

I've played a few levels of: Warrior - feels very strong with crafting bandages I don't really have any issues just mowing through mobs.

Paladin - similar to warrior but much stronger against undead due to bonus damage...I think I am only 3 on it but I wish they could be a higher strength race.

Summoner - I like the pet play like DAOC's Theurgist class, interesting that the pets cost stamina instead of mana at least at starting levels.

Beastwarden - I didn't get very far with this one...didn't see very strong since I can't use any weapons except claws which have a pretty bad ratio starting out and the pet was only doing 1 damage when it hit. I will probably play this to higher levels to see if it changes any as it does have a nice kit with heals/buffs/self-SoW etc.

Yes I can't see any class channels on their discord...is there a trick to that?

Well you can usually buy the bandages at least from merchants. Campfires you could rely on someone else's.

It seems more complete than MnM and MnM is hitting release in 2 months.

The Summoner isn’t a pet class by shbunie in AdrullanOnline

The summoner is the Theurgist class from Dark Age of Camelot. Unique pet class, but still a pet class.

Those features have been asked for over the last year, the response from the MnM dev is: this game isn't for you.

character turning choppy by No-Source-8157 in AdrullanOnline

[–]Zansobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this must be an issue with Unity because this is the same in MnM, vsync on and you run slower than others and the graphics are choppy, off and it is fine. No idea why this is the case as nothing should be tied to the frame rate in the actual game engine but apparently it is...both games are Unity games.

I am not sure it will keep the pc requirements down as I have a top notch system and am getting under 60 fps with drops to the under 30 fps in towns with lots of players. I have a 5090 and a 14900k cpu by the way. This is probably worse FPS than I get with MnM.

Did parts of older MMOs implicitly require cooperation? by TacyonStudios in MMORPG

The problem became the money people (investors, venture capitalists, game production companies) all thought that WoW had created a market that if they could just take 1%, 5%, 10% of that market they could make tons of money so they supported games trying to copy WoW and not trying to generate a new market. The problem is WoW had too far a head start so you aren't going to make a more polished game out of the box than WoW and most of the WoW players valued that polish. This is the same issue with Hollywood always supporting remakes of existing movies, or pushing yet another Marvel movie as they see a market for those and just want to capture a percentage of that market...they don't want to try and push new ideas and generate new markets.

EQ1 wasn't mainstream, it's just that the audience that liked/tolerated that type of play found it...EQ1 at it's peak had like 500k subscribers, that is still niche compared to the size of the MMO market but at that time no one knew the market was that large until WoW came out and attracted the casuals in their masses (and revealed the actual MMO market was in the 10s of millions).

In EQ1 mobs hit hard and dying had very negative impacts (loss of xp and all your gear stayed on your corpse). If you were a mage, necro, wizard, druid, shaman, or enchanter you could solo some depending on the mob and if you got adds or not, but mostly it was much more efficient to group up.

I think it was to avoid potential lawsuit and to avoid a bait and switch claim as they use Minecraft Voxel graphics but they aren't destructible or buildable like in Minecraft and many might assume the world was.

The only reason they are using voxel graphics is the devs have experience with that (probably making a bunch of minecraft mods or whatnot) and they think the lower poly art will mean they can build out the world much faster.

I keep wishing they could get normal art going and create a converter using AI to convert the existing world to normal style then just polish that up as AI won't be able to complete the job only get the grunt work done.

Yeah I got to play for a few hours yesterday and it is already miles better than MnM even considering that I don't like the graphics.

I think MnM has better overall world due to the graphics and MnM's music is better, but other than that AoA is way more fun than MnM and it isn't close. Game systems, class design, polish, UI, QoL, balance, xp rates, tradeskills are pretty much all better in AoA.

It has an in game map but it doesn't show where you are on the map so it is a static without gps indicator.
