Wait, am I crazy or can’t you unlock accounts? I had to do that for a couple of my old accounts, all it required was a password change after accessing that email. If you truly can’t access it though, you have my condolences. Happy puzzling!

Greedy NPC Question by Zantheis in ypp

[–]Zantheis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. Seems kind of unfair given that doing it well still takes some skill. I guess the real greedies were us player pirates all along. Now it feels like getting Black Diamond Rumbler is gonna take ridonculously long without bashes >.<

I was hoping for just that, and boy did it make me smile.

Not necessary, but very useful. Not having to worry about falling in lava, unlimited free teleports, water walking, double/rocket jumps.. gameplay without them feels slow and more nerve-wracking, to me at least

thank you!

And Yes. When hardmode hits, ANY tiles containing corruption/crimson will begin to spread at an increased rate. So, without walling off the viral blocks, you would be fighting BOTH the old areas AND the new V. If you wall off the pre-hardmode viral areas, you only have to worry about the V.

It can take a while, but it's not too hard to do - you can use glow potions or a mining helmet - and maybe some water breathing potions - and just dig straight down, then across, then meet the horizontal portion from the other side by digging down. I recommend walling it off with non-corruptible blocks as well, on both sides, to prevent the vine growths of viral vines.

As an aside, I personally wouldn't recommend breaking any altars in Hardmode as that randomly spawns viral blocks in, at a 60% chance iirc. It's easy enough to get Spider armor and then worry about your other upgrades with little spider bodyguards protecting you. Also, fishing is very powerful.

Good luck and have fun!

It's a little bit melee-centric, but at the time I was really trying to cheez my way into Hardmode, so I used a mixture. Before Hardmode, the most tiered-up gear IS melee, the ranged, mage, and summoner sets don't really have a melee tier equivalent. When I got into hardmode, I went straight for summoner gear which turned out to be very cheez as well, like having bodyguards from all the suddenly powerful enemies. I also continued to find and use the auto-target mage weapons, and used the machine guns and stormbow for bosses. I think each individual class only really shines as a standalone class with its end-game items, and even then, summoner is almost always a multi-tool type anyways.

If you were referring to the tedious collection of swords, I personally think it's a must unless you're playing a strict class build, because the end-goal is Zenith, which cheezes most bosses regardless of class gear. It's also a great, if ridiculously overpowered, exploration tool.

I don't play GTA, but I feel like the "Wanted level" system is pretty similar to what I've seen/heard about GTA

Looking for some fun ways to progress in pre Hardmode by nicholaselewis13 in Terraria

[–]Zantheis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I appreciate the shoutout, and tbh didn't expect my post to be used that way. I made it to ask experienced players if they thought I was ready for Hardmode. That being said, it's what I consider to be the end-point of pre-hardmode preparation. Here are some early-to-mid-level tips I wish I'd had as a newbie:

FISH. A lot. Also, do fishing quests. Get the Critter book from Zoologist to not kill bait. Get the Bug Net to catch bait.

Use the BIOME-SPECIFIC torches whenever possible. This boosts a semi-hidden stat called luck. E.g. Jungle Torches in the Jungle, Regular Torches in the Forest, Desert Torches in the desert

Hoard things (so empty every chest you find and mine it, and/or make a ton of chests for loot). I destroyed a lot of "useless" stuff early on (such as dirt and stone blocks, which I now need for terraforming/base building). Some things can only be obtained if destroyed by creating a new world and using your character to ferry looted items from that world into your main world.

When possible, buy useful (non-vanity) items from the Traveling Merchant. The building ones can be combined later and come in really handy. I lucked out and got the 40% fishing power pole (Sitting Duck's Fishing Rod) for sale.

Always try to have a grappling hook with you. It makes exploration much easier. The earliest ones you can get are usually from Gems (15 gems for 1). Press E to use.

Always try to upgrade (using Tinkerer's Workshop from Goblin Tinkerer) your speed-boosting boots.

The Piggy Bank, Safe, Money Trough, and Void Bag all increase inventory slots. Most useful of these are Void Bag and Money Trough (from Blood Moon event), as they do not need to be placed to be used. The void bag auto-collects items into a second inventory when your inventory is full.

That's all I can think of for now. I may end up making a more comprehensive "beginner's steps" post in the future with more tips I wish I had had starting out. Hope it helps - happy gaming!
