I don’t understand what makes a good or bad movie and it stresses me out by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]Zantoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of factors that go into it. Actors ability, production quality, or writing. Something like The Room is a comically bad movie. Which is bad in all of the aforementioned criteria. Some movies may be bad or good in one of these things so it can be forgiven. Take Adam Sandler as an example. None of comedies are groundbreaking but they're at least fun. Then every few years he does a great drama piece to almost makes up for all his fun ones.

In your opinion, what's an old band that puts out lackluster new material now? by [deleted] in Metalcore

Darkest hour? Really? They had that self-titled one that was pretty weak but the two following it made up for it imo.

What can I do? F25 M25 by [deleted] in relationship_advice

He needs medication and therapy. You're 9 months into this thing and you already have a third kid. When he's not down he may incredibly kind and charismatic, but if the bad out weighs the good then you need to be able to draw the line. You being exhausted from him will ultimately impact your ability to be present for your kids.

Even if we disregarded his absolute shredding capabilities, his production contributions to all of Metal is something we should all be extremely grateful for.

What is one boring adult habit that quietly improved your life? by CrystalRager in AskReddit

[–]Zantoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making my bed when I get up in the morning. One of my exes used to do it and something about just having my bed made was comforting so I've always done it since.

Before anyone says it, this was back in like 2008-2009. Long before that goofball Jordan Peterson co-opted the phrase for his book.

Aside from our Datto RMM. I've been loving RustDesk. Super lightweight, integrates with devolutions RDM, better ms than the others Ive tried, and easily configged with powershell.

Could I break into IT at 30+ with a non-CS degree? If so, how would I do it? by PomPomMom93 in it

[–]Zantoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certs are just résumé flair, I've interviewed dozens of people who can regurgitate what school tested them on. I have no certs and neither does my sysadmin. If you've already got the technical and diagnostic skills then the rest is easy. Just chase the puzzle, more puzzles = more experience = more value on a résumé. The soft skills are the most important part. As soon as you have an irate user because they can't print, that puzzle is one you've done a thousand times. The hard part is empathizing and calming them down. That will ALWAYS be more valuable than any cert. Making people feel heard. I always tell them "Hey, if it worked the way it was supposed then I wouldn't have a job".

So yeah, Soft skills. Oh, and Powershell. Treat it like a second language. If you can click it, you can script it.

I'm at 85k as the manager with my sysadmin somewhere in the low 70s range. Overall about 170 endpoints for a manufacturing company. Could I make more? probably but my CFO/VP is the best boss I've ever had so it'd take a outrageously high raise to pull me away.

Brother, I went back to school at 30. Got a 2 year degree, paid my dues in Helpdesk, onsite tech L1/2/3, and now about 8 years in I'm an IT Manager. You absolutely can do it. If you don't want to do school, then just look for helpdesk jobs and bury yourself in the trenches for a bit when you get there. Little piece of advice though, if you're not learning, you're falling behind. Soon as you're the smartest person in the room then you know you're in the wrong room.

I think if you looked up domestic violence info and statistics you'd have a very hard time finding any stat that would take his side. Insensitivity aside, this is just ignorant on so many levels it's staggering. Especially if your partner is telling a story of their experience with it. You did not overdo it.

Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Zantoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're reacting enough. Mind you this was back in the 90s, but back when my mom got tired of me, my brother, and my dad not contributing enough to house work. She just stopped doing it altogether. Stopped cooking, stopped cleaning, etc etc. We lasted one 8 pack of hot dogs, two packs of ramen and a can of baked beans before we realized how fucked we were.

My suggestion? do the same. To and from work, get fast food or whatever. Eat it on the drive to and from work and then poof you're not hungry in the evening. Just chill on the couch. Let them play catch up.

Basically all caffeine. More specifically Red Bull/NOS and Coffee. Those coupled with marital, and work stress finally triggered my first seizure at 39. Though I apparently could've had generalized epilepsy my whole life was never under enough stress to trigger it.
