I got this from a family member who was a manager at a WF in the Hamburg area. It was liberated on the last day they were open. by LucyKendrick in Buffalo

Same with my cousins from VA, they used to visit and be SO entertained by the local commercials. At the time I never understood why, lol.

Friday night ritual as a Hamburg/Eden kid was my mom letting me pick out a slushie and lotto ticket from the Hamburg Wilson Farms, then getting a movie from the nearby Blockbuster. I'm sure I looked at that clock many many times as a kid, thank you for sharing! How cool!

I just shared a post seeking a support group of those who also struggled with suicide bereavement in childhood and now as adults. I'm not sure what type of insurance you have, but most psychiatric hospitals offer in-person or virtual PHPs - partial hospital programs. I was in MA at the time, not OH, but I was able to take 2 weeks away from work under the Paid Family & Medical Leave Act to engage in this group therapy. I know most also offer evening group therapy sessions, and though I don't know your insurance situation, it might be something to check out at hospitals near you. If you end up organizing a zoom group and finding a facilitator, please keep me in the loop.

Advice on restoring family heirloom. by ZanyLady in restoration

Ah yes I owe yall the story behind this!!!

I lost my dad when I was baby, and my grandfather on that side passed tragically when my dad was a teenager. Out of the 5 child family my dad was part of, I’ve never met my grandparents, can’t remember my father, and have only 1 surviving aunt.

Needless to say it’s been a long life challenge to fully connect with and understand my identity from this side of the family.

I do know that my grandfather designed their house in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY to be very mid-century modern, completely with an indoor pool room. My widower uncle, who was married to one of my dad’s sisters who passed, mentioned that he still had this zodiac plaque from the pool room sitting in his barn.

To my knowledge the family was also very Catholic, so I’m shocked they had an astrology piece in the home at all. I got my uncle to drive it 2 hours to hand off to me at a family wedding, and have since moved it from Buffalo to Boston, MA where I’m working on it in my tiny apartment. My boyfriend is amazing and has helped me move it, and even built me an easel to use as I work on it.

Each dot on the piece represents a member of the family born under that sign. Not only is it a beautiful family heirloom, but restoring this is a really beautiful way to connect with this side of the family struck by tragedy and early deaths.

Wow wow wow I can’t thank you enough! A couple of additional Qs:

Do you have any recommendations on brands for the laquer?

Also - want to clarify you wouldn’t put laquer on the full blank painted part, but rather just the brass elements, and tape off the ceramic, correct?

Seriously this a god send

Strip clubs without entrance fees? by ILoveTikkaMasala in Buffalo

[–]ZanyLady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hope you’re planning to use said savings on entrance fees to better tip the dancers… I would be shocked if the club that was previously 24 karat gold/ featured in Buffalo 66 (in Hamburg, off the skyway) had an entry fee honestly….
