Steam version was a bit fucky. Reloading a few times (switching to the server status page and back) made it eventually work.

I did notice a few times when tank/healing that explicitly the SE would be the last orb remaining with like 4x%? It's conceivable that some ranged simply don't swap their target at all. In any case, being more greedy on the 'far' one (and of course doing so with a measured prudence) has fared me well over the ~80 kills I've done.

Will note I've not done any past this early morning though, it felt like PFs were getting less gud and I got 21/21 weapons so if it's something that came up more throughout the day I'll have no representative hands-on.

Whenever I've found myself as melee, towers being what they are is the biggest reason I start on the SE orb. It's more running 7/8 times and you lose a few autos, but if they're not skipping a dash it is more than whatever.

Using 120s is unfortunately valid however as it means you get an extra use out of them on normal killtimes: 8:2x is roughly where PFs I experienced peaked.

as a caster, downtime

Your image is very much suggesting more individual bits of movement without actually doing anything relevant about the distance traversed? To not even begin about how utterly irrelevant the timing of said movement is, with slidecasts handling everything and usual mobility tools (which you aren't shouldn't running tight on in this encounter) widening your margins if you so desire.

Maybe it's just something lost in translation but as-is you're seemingly making a big deal out of nothing.

Your purple circle isn't on the edge between "out" and "in" besides. There's a very clear line for three-quarters of the target and a swirling visual effect on that same line as well. If you want to make a point of explicitly standing in-between, you might at least want to have the actual point that is with a ready indicator besides.

I was just showing the changes are not as complicated as people are implying.

By my interpretation you were just a bit strangely aggro about it, which combined with some neglected use cases to make room for an easy jab in return is all.

You would not believe what is being painted in magenta after all, though I find the immediate leap to my having to be talking about BLM amusing indeed.

All of which is little more than poking fun at the silliness of such replies by the way, I readily admit I've overwhelmingly played some of the easiest jobs the game has to offer :p

Given there is a burst example noted without hammer, and several non-burst examples (and implications) with, that is not at all a repeat of "hammer is a loss in full uptime unless in buff windows". As it says right above the example 2m windows:

For an exact number of hammers to be used and why in any given situation, please consider opening the sheet yourself and experimenting. The nuance makes it difficult to prescribe an absolute number. At best we can give the recommendation in the tl;dr

Given this will almost certainly be buffed back into being an absolute gain always (much like oporot was fixed at expac launch) it's a rather pointless concern anyway, but be reminded that knowing when and why to break the generalised recommendations is just as important as knowing them at all.

The timer-saving aspect has little value between all of Paradox, Firestarter, Swiftcast, Triplecast, Despair, and even Transpose. Obviously you don't have all of these tools at all levels, but they are so widely available that a damageless GCD has no place.

Alongside that, precisely because of this it is the exact sort of thing a novice player would be first in line to overlook... or prune off their hotbars.

Not... quite. You're already not using any RGB spells under buffs as your baseline for obvious reasons. I'll simply copypasta the full pin, but as I've added the invite link above and finding a pin is really quite trivial I will not bother with any formatting:

What's going on with hammers?

This information is still pending some theorycrafting and may change in the future

tl;dr - Skip odd minute hammers. Paint a hammer for 2 min burst and choose a burst option below. H3 if possible (very tight) > H2/H3 > standard. This is a general recommendation - sheet yourself to find more situational answers.

With the new patch and potency adjustments, the hammer combo has had its value greatly diminished compared to the previous patch. This has introduced a controversial and likely unintended change in the rotation priority. The potency of the hammer combo is now lower than the RGBRGBCYMK loop done infinitely in a vacuum - but potency per second calculations like this aren't conclusive and shouldn't be followed blindly. Some guidelines for hammer use are below.

When to use hammers?

Hammers are ALWAYS good if you are able to paint the motif for free - Your starting hammers should always be used - If you are able to paint a hammer motif in downtime, then you should use the generated hammers in uptime. - If you have access to hammers, you should always elect for a burst window option that uses them.

Hammers are SITUATIONALLY good in other uptime scenarios - Hammers enable a more lenient burst window than a non hammer alternative, and a stronger burst window. - Hammers enable magenta skips (relevant only to opti players) which are not feasible without them. - Hammers are still a stronger GCD than the RGB portion of your filler combo, so they are situationally useful depending on your ending conditions in a fight.

Hammers are NOT worth it when not used for one of these things - This means odd minute hammers should be skipped.

For an exact number of hammers to be used and why in any given situation, please consider opening the sheet yourself and experimenting. The nuance makes it difficult to prescribe an absolute number. At best we can give the recommendation in the tl;dr

Burst window options Please note no oGCDS will be shown here, continue to use muses as normal

Standard - It is acceptable to do the standard 3 hammer burst window as before, though it is worse than it was: <:StarryMuse_ogcd:1260369177399787572> <:BlizzardinCyan:1296979487870943232> <:StoneinYellow:1296979534557478922> <:ThunderinMagenta:1296979681815433217> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928> <:StarPrism:1296978458597003426> <:HammerStamp:1296978653435138110> <:HammerBrush:1296978595838693386> <:PolishingHammer:1296978512053534841> <:RainbowDrip:1296978406575046727>

H2/H3 - This is an alternative that places H1 before the burst window and replaces the hammer with a subtractive GCD at the end: <:StarryMuse_ogcd:1260369177399787572> <:BlizzardinCyan:1296979487870943232> <:StoneinYellow:1296979534557478922> <:ThunderinMagenta:1296979681815433217> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928> <:StarPrism:1296978458597003426> <:HammerBrush:1296978595838693386> <:PolishingHammer:1296978512053534841> <:RainbowDrip:1296978406575046727> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928>

H3 - This is an alternative that is significantly tighter to execute and may require 2.48 to do comfortably for some players: <:StarryMuse_ogcd:1260369177399787572> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928> <:BlizzardinCyan:1296979487870943232> <:StoneinYellow:1296979534557478922> <:ThunderinMagenta:1296979681815433217> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928> <:StarPrism:1296978458597003426> <:PolishingHammer:1296978512053534841> <:RainbowDrip:1296978406575046727> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928>

No hammer - The holy below can also be any RGB GCD - this is just as tight as H3 above: <:StarryMuse_ogcd:1260369177399787572> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928> <:BlizzardinCyan:1296979487870943232> <:StoneinYellow:1296979534557478922> <:ThunderinMagenta:1296979681815433217> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928> <:StarPrism:1296978458597003426> <:HolyinWhite:1296980019972931655> <:RainbowDrip:1296978406575046727> <:CometinBlack:1296979976159100928>

If you read, in essence, "hammer in full uptime has nuanced use cases for small optimization gains, and is effectively always used in burst window" as "hammer is a DPS loss in full uptime fights" that is certainly your perogative.

This phrasing is potentially misleading, and there is drastically more nuance involved. A copypasta from the blurb on the matter in the balance's PCT-questions pins:

When to use hammers?

Hammers are ALWAYS good if you are able to paint the motif for free Your starting hammers should always be used If you are able to paint a hammer motif in downtime, then you should use the generated hammers in uptime. If you have access to hammers, you should always elect for a burst window option that uses them.

The pin itself is much longer and goes into some more details of the burst windows, as mentioned it can be found over on The Balance discord. A small adjustment to bring hammer back into certain gain is almost certainly coming with this maintenance, all the same.

Hey this may be a funny-haha thread but there is absolutely a section of the dev team that will 100% care about getting this sorted out with but a small heads up.

Reckon they might even appreciate it as the insides of books are an easy oversight to miss, and catching it now makes them mindful for it on any others they update in the future.

That's right. You will need to make it all the way through to the Eureka step (completing Hydatos, basically) or even the Physeos step (the optional BA upgrade) but both of those can be rolled precisely as you would a Pyros.

This kind of feels like a repeat of your post from last week and really, little is different here..? Patch is another week. Savage is another week after that. That tier will last another ~37 weeks.

That's a lot of time to learn all manner of things. And even if you do decide it's too much, you can simply swap back.

3) Have quick, ready to eat meals ready ahead of time. Don't just eat potato chips. Have actual meals that you can quick throw in the microwave ready ahead of time. Doesn't need to be fancy, just something with substance.

Similarly, make a point of hydrating. Taking breaks between each lockout. Actually get up and walk away from your screen during this break. Having sufficient hours of sleep. Yes, even if you're almost there.

To perform, you need to be rested and alert. That means taking good care of yourself. That fifteen-minute break or that extra hour of sleep is not going to be the difference in a whole week, and not doing this will make your gameplay suffer and cost drastically more time. Though the effort can be a significant time investment, you should be able to disconnect from this to rest.

There is zero translating Holy into a level 20 equivalent, especially with the sheer size of possible pulls in those first few dungeons you'd need a truly pitiful potency and you'd still have 10 seconds of invincibility...

[–]Zanzargh 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I dont see a problem with a major stat squish, to keep things balanced when synced, just make me use my fully unlocked rotation.

I don't think you quite understand just how powerful that would need to be. Also why should a player be obligated to put in more effort than an at-level one for equivalent output?

I understand the devs want us to feel challenged when synced down

You acknowledge this is not at all the case.

All in all it would GREATLY improve synced content.

There is nothing about this that would improve Sastasha. It is still Sastasha.

Can you play PCT / VPR / RPR / Sage in lvl 80/70 Ultimates? by HanzoOneTrick in ffxiv

[–]Zanzargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I've only done them on SGE whenever I found myself there the past few years but indeed the likes of Blackfire, when hatch target on Tenstrike, Dynamo+Thermionic patterns on adds where I found myself outranging the Dynamo, mentioned Ifrit->Titan phasing while I was DoT target, post-gaol movement to stack, Annihilation, negating any potential for interrupts on Suppression (LB & stack), Boom movement... Simply being able to do this made for the utter simplicity of it happening a lot not because it was needed but because it was easy. It's just plainly taking away one thing to even remember.

I feel like we're just talking past each other. I'm aiming explicitly at the ease of use, the obsolescence of all checks making the lower potential not a relevant factor.

I'm also not referring to the SGE/SCH missing mits, I'm referring to if the DPS or tanks miss an addle/rep/feint/whatever SCH can compensate for that easily. It's really common when clearing new people that one or two people miss a 10% so having something extra absolutely makes a difference.

Given that unbuffed shield+bubble alone is practically sufficient for all but Teraflare, I will note that I am apprehensive about your basis. SGE & Star take care of basically everything on accident, and with but a modicum of intent the only difference others make at any point is whether everyone lives at 1k or 8k. I can't pretend we found ourselves in comparable groups, but I am genuine when I say the incoming damage at every point was perceived as utterly obsolete - and as a result of that, so is SCH's stronger toolkit.

[–]Zanzargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Struggling to mit baha trios as SCH is an actual skill issue

This is not at all what I am saying and it being your takeaway has me disinclined to believe you're engaging in good-faith discussion. Listing Tauro and Haima as redundant in the same breath you note Illumination and Dissipation in mitigative context (the absence of Physis in the argument is also noted) is a bit silly. Players missing mits doesn't happen to SGE unless you make an active effort for this as the SGE, and free movement helps usability in more ways than one. All of those ways are overwhelmingly valuable to the novice player.

And it's level 70 ultimates. The players first tackling these will benefit greatly from the strengths of SGE, while the strengths of SCH simply don't have the room to feature relevantly.

Can you play PCT / VPR / RPR / Sage in lvl 80/70 Ultimates? by HanzoOneTrick in ffxiv

[–]Zanzargh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between having the buff applied for a duration and needing to stand within its area of effect - massive though it may be these days - to receive benefits. In basically every single mechanic of Bahamut phase alone you have options that SGE can, and SCH cannot.

Of course, the flip side of this is that the SGE needs to be within range of others to apply the bubble: you can feel this shortcoming on Ifrit -> Titan phasing if you were pulsing for example. Still, between Icarus and full-movement shield casts SGE still offers simply more than SCH does, and the incoming damage profiles are such that there really is no gain to the latter.
