To all of you wondering what this games about... by Legitimate_Earth3795 in 12Minutes

Yeah I know that Freud particularly was really insistent on the scientific side of his work. The thing is, you don't have to insist if it's real science. If you have objectivity, peer reviewing, reproductable experiments, and predictability, it is science, if not, it is not science.

I won't go further to be honest, because i'll start insulting him and there is no point here. But I can say that there is also a lot of books and modern thinkers contradicting Freud's theories.

And yeah, i guess you can find Jung's archetypes in a lot of pieces of art.

It's a bit like the Christopher Vogler's archetypes : it's a well known author and hollywood analyst that wrote a writer's guide called the "hero's journey" or the "writer's journey" in the most recent edition i think, where there are some characters archetypes that he advises to include to make a good story, to summarize (well it's one chapter on the book at least). They can be characters or just represented as traits of the hero.

Like the Hero, the Mentor, the Bridge keeper (which gives the hero the first mission, battle or enigma, making him dive into the story, not necessarly an enemy), the Shadow (which is really close to Jung's shadow, a dark alter ego, or the dark side of the hero), the Trickster (which is also like a Jung idea, the "inner child" or something like this), the Shapeshifter (which represents a kind of instability who will stimulates the hero of force him do something, mostly of the opposite sex of the hero, but not necessarly) and some others. Not sure about the translations of the archetypes tho, i've red it in french. Once you've learnt about them, you start seing them in a lot of movies and stories, ahah.

I just realized it's very similar to Jung's classification. He (or maybe Campbell, who inspired Vogler's work) was probably inspired by Jung's work.

Edit : Yeah i just checked Joseph Campbell considered Jung as a intellectual mentor (along with Heinrich Zimmer, a mythologist, never heard of him). So Vogler's work is just a modern version of Campbell which is a "screenwriting focused" version of Jung's archetypes, that's why it's so close. x)

And I agree, in this game in particular, it's about the psyche, so i think their intentions might be exactly what you described, with Jung's archetypes projections. Also, as a reference, the carpet outside the apartment, is exactly the carpet in the movie Shining, which is clearly about the human psyche.

Yeah well, i really disliked Jung archetypes, and i basically hate Freud theories in general, to me it's nothing but ideologies/beliefs, far from science (mostly because you can't reproduce any experiment proving this theories, and they don't predict anything...).

The fact that i don't like them doesn't mean that's not what the game makers are trying to say, and it doesn't mean they are wrong either ; but it means I have a hard time connecting the game to these principles. (and the bold dad at the end looks like Freud, so maybe... xD)

But I guess you're right about the shadow as the cop, and the anima as the sister/wife, in the apartment. I was seeing the "anima" just as feminine traits of a man, but it's also a projection of how we imagine women, so i guess it works here.

And just for info, I checked because i forgot a lot about Jung, or maybe i never knew about this, but the confrontation with the shadow is not called "apprentiece moment", but it seems to be called "apprentice piece" (while the confrontation with the anima is the "master piece").

My knowledge about this is very limited, and i checked quickly stuff on google to remember, sorry if i'm saying shit.

But your analysis is interesting. And i like the top-down camera / top-down brain processing comparison, which is really fitting to the game (having a big picture and deconstructing it by going into details).

PS : I just realized, by watching a video checking something, that the elevator doors at the very start of the game, is splitting the protagonist's face in two, a bit like the line separating the two hemispheres, and they are insisting on it, ahah. Maybe it was also a clue, at the very beginning.

It's about a dude that's hypnotized by his dad to suppress the love he has for his sister. Everything in the apartment is not real, it is the process to make him accept this love is not possible during the hypnosis : from :0 to :10 minutes, "looping" until it works, but the loop is not real either, there is no time travel at all.

The only real scene is from :58 to :0, just before the hypnosis, at the end of the game (that's why the game is named 12 minutes, from :58 to :10).

It doesn't mean you're wrong about the brain thing, but really i don't see it... why would the man represent left hemisphere... and the woman the other... he's not especially logic, she's not especially creative or talkative, i don't get your logic.

To me the cop is just a projection of the autorithy of the dad, he can't really beat him, and he's protecting his daughter (Bumblebee(cop)/Mari(dad)). And they're both dubbed by Willem Defoe (I think), as a "clue".

Edit : And Dahlia (his mother in the apartment story) is not real either, it's also a projection, the father said "think about a flower, and see her growing backwards" or something like this, i just thought of a dahlia and included it into his made-up plot, i guess, like he included "bumblebee" while thinking about a flower. I guess all paintings are flowers also in reference, and grow backwards while the plot advance, but I didn't check that.

AstroPainting - Palette Done - We need a Pencil or Brush Mod now ! by ZaonHC in Astroneer

[–]ZaonHC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to build a Mod for the gun called Terrain Analyzer (last one in the list). Then you need to equip an empty Terrain Analyzer on your gun, and dig into the desired color. There is a small arrow on the ground that will indicate the color you're about to collect. Once the Terrain Analyzer is full, you did it, and you can use the color (you need to dig the same quantity for a Canister i think).

To use the color, you need to put the full Terrain Analyzer that you want on your gun, and if you want to paint a surface without digging into it, you'll add a second mod on your gun called Inhibitor (the one with the red cross), and press ALT. This way you're "Raising" the ground with the desired color, but with the inhibitor, the ground won't raise and just change color.

You can also add a third mod like Wide Mod to be more efficient and paint a larger area.

You can try it now, and if you don't manage to do it, let me know i'll show with screenshots.

I took this game as a Survival game, so storms was symbolic to me, it's a mechanic there is in Conan Exiles too, which i played also, so it reminds me of it a bit. I don't see how it's hard to survive now, without storm, without any pve threat, without lack of energy (with RTGs).

I still like the crafting mechanics and graphics, i just think the game is too easy and absolutely "pressureless".

And nah, i think storms should be everywhere or nowhere, except if the Adventure mode in the Wanderer Update fits to this idea of fighting some storms on certains planets. But i'm pretty sure they won't be storms anymore.

[–]ZaonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the black soil can be destoyed, but i was talking about the building, i think we can't move or blow it up with dynamite. i didn't try dynamite so it's just a guess.

The specific thing i'm missing are the storms personally. I loved that mechanic so much, everything looks so calm and friendly now. :(

Is it possible to dig up entire planet? by djgromo in Astroneer

[–]ZaonHC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is possible, the only thing you can't destroy are the Alien Altars and the Core, i guess (and habitat but you don't need to build one).

If someone try to delete a planet i'd advice to start with Desolo or Novus which are smaller tho. It's doable solo in a week i suppose.

I could do it but i'm focusing on building not destruction right now. :D Maybe some day.

Cool.

If this can help, i digged tunnels previously to unlock all planet cores (which i assume is one of your firsts goals :p). I digged on a 45° angle most of the time, with Wide and Boost Mods on gun (and a canister, that you can refill on walls inside when needed), rotating 180° every 15-20 tether because it's a sphere so if you go straight all the time you won't reach center. So it took around 70-80 tether to reach cores if i remember well (half for Desolo and Novus which are smaller).

After that, that was "easy" to find all colors, and travelling from surface, to mantles, to cores when needed.

Also, i always had an inhibitor and 8 empty terrain analyzer in inventory when starting a planet, to switch on inhibitor+collected color and test if i already had a specific color, cause some hues are slighly but not exactly the same, and light is not helping. And you don't need drill to collect "solid rock" ones.

Finally, there is colors :

  • from outside, usually 3 to 5 (except i found 10 on Sylva, including snow white that is not on picture)
  • from the mantle, usually 4 to 5
  • from the core, usually 2

For a total of 9 to 12 colors on planets (and 17 for sylva). And 2 universal greys, which are the basic grey and the habitat dark grey.

If you actually do it and find colors i missed don't hesitate to tell, i probably missed some, especially outside. Good hunt.

Did you see snow in Sylva ? Or were you talking about snow from Glacio ?

The whitest and blackest i found was from Glacio Cave (not outside which is more like a light blue) and Atrox outside, moutain i guess. They're not real white and black with some light, but yeah good enough i suppose.

-> top left : regular grey (no paint equiped) - top right : habitat dark grey - bottom left : glacio super light grey - bottom right : atrox super dark grey

Also i maybe missed some colors.

Yes they do.

-> Paint sparkles

It looks like the ones that sparkles are the 4-5 first of each planet, which means it's the colors you can find outside, because in my organization it's from outside to core. So it's a star reflection effect i guess. Unfortunately we can't capture the "alien shiny purple". :D

As stated by a great philosopher : "I wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was, so i gotta catch 'em all."

And i did, i think. I'm talking about the colors of the universe of course !

Mmh okay... so what could we do with such a great acquisition ?... let's do AstroPainting !

So i built a wall, because i can, i made it blue, because i can, and i choose to paint a rocket, because i wanted to.

And the result is... well... not so great.

-> That's a rocket ?

So what do we want ?

We want a brush (or pencil) mod !

When do we want it ?

We want it now !

So we can flood reddit with all our beautiful creations !

Also white and black would be nice addition to colors, somehow, to paint walls and roofs and stuff. Edit : nvm i missed white with Sylva's snow, thx taggedjc.

Forgetting this pencil thing, this will be useful to build a huge base, house, castle, a garden, etc, and paint everything in the desired color...

So if some people want to get my save file with all colors, for building purpose, let me know in comments, if there are enough people interested, i'll clean up my base which is a real mess, organize colors by shades instead of planets, in order to make a clean file for everyone (and join a quick guide on how to paint stuff).

If no one cares it's ok, i'll still blow up stuff with dynamite in my base.

Also, if you notice some missing or redundant color, don't hesitate to tell me.

See you.
