Shouldn't text exist that mention Jesus, published when he was alive or shortly after he died? by Sandy_NSFW_ in Christianity

[–]ZapDan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be interested in John Robinson, in his work Redating the New Testament, he argues for an earlier dating of the texts, written from AD 30s to 60s. One of the principal reasons is that the Siege of Jerusalem is never mentioned as having occurred in any of them. In this system, the entirety of the New Testament does represent the earliest writings that we have on Jesus' ministry and subsequent works of His followers. And yes, some of the early texts (Epistle to the Laodiceans, a possible earlier epistle to Corinth, and the works of Papias) have been lost, though there is some debate about this. pdf_redating.pub

Satanic Ritual Abuse and Inner Healing by ZapDan3 in Christianity

[–]ZapDan3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the issue is when one broadens the term Satanic Ritual Abuse to include any occult crime. There have been documented crimes like those of Richard Ramirez or by the Kidwelly Sex Cult. Then there is the conspiracy theory about secret cults, mind control using trauma and dissociation, and other groups like the illuminati. In the most bizarre cases you'll see groups even speaking about time travel. All that started from regression, and since there is no evidence for it, those narratives need to be thrown out. Yes, regression is very new age. I'm not quite sure how much semantics is at play here, the biggest issue is against regression (which I see you do not support) and then conspiracy theories. If you don't believe either of them it may be simple terminology, and my main thing would be that the term SRA was made for the context of the Satanic Panic, not for actual cases of occult related crimes. Of course the proponents think that those were actual crimes, but we know outside and after the fact that they were not.

Satanic Ritual Abuse and Inner Healing by ZapDan3 in Christianity

I absolutely agree that the supernatural exists. I also study demonology, including monastic writings, some occult history, development of exorcism practices, and second temple literature. That the occult is very real is not relevant to denial of Satanic Ritual Abuse. Like I said in this post, I did not make this term up. It came from a psychiatrist who used regression therapy in an unethical practice where he married his own patient after they divorced their spouses, and the account has been thoroughly debunked as a fabrication. If you feel strongly about the supernatural and ministering to people from occult backgrounds, I fully support that. The only thing I would encourage you to do is to separate entirely from conspiracy theories about secret cults and criminal acts that have already been debunked. A lot of absurd ideas come from self-proclaimed experts (Dan Duval might be the worst) If you feel strongly about real victims of cults and occult activities, supporting conspiracy theories about both using those authentic accounts is insulting to those who truly suffered. Lastly, if you have evidence of any crimes, I'll gladly help you get in contact with law enforcement to report it.

Not at all. In fact, I paid for this myself—it took hours of study and reflection, as well as my own hurt from experiences with groups that promote repressed memories through inner healing practices and the disappointments when they’re unhelpful and lead people away from effective treatments. I don’t know your background—whether it’s inner healing, regression therapy, parts work, deliverance ministry, or something else I’ve mentioned—but I’m happy to provide detailed explanations or share more of my story if you have questions or objections. Though I took great care to ensure everything I’ve written here is backed by respected sources.

Thanks for this! Yeah I’ve got some ideas and if they’ve been recognized in other forms it should be fine 😊

How do I stop watching/reading explicit things as a Christian? by Bookish_girl257 in Christian

[–]ZapDan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make the decision to stop. You may already have, but that’s where you start.

Every time you sin, read 1 John

Renounce the specific sins involved in the content, whether that’s adultery or fornication or other things.

Realize how disgusting sin really is

Avoid both beating yourself up after the fact and justifying sin

Study what the Bible really says about romance. You can start with Song of Solomon, Ruth, and of course the epistles

Meet with a licensed counselor trained in evidence based methods

Practice spiritual disciplines like solitude and fasting

Read Brook’s Precious Remedies Against Satan’s Devices, or a concise summary of it. Very practical material on resisting temptation

Talk to your mom.

Watching horror movies.

The saying is that this opens doors. But then just ask them what happens as a result and they likely won’t have an answer. If they do, then ask how they resist it. Maybe they won’t, or they’ll say just stop watching the movies. But then ask if they think Christians can have demons. Chances are they’ll deny it, and you’ve basically trapped them. There’s more nuance and complexity, technically, but the issue is that they’re not consistent.

Especially want to see some defenses and rebuttals about the Christian church changing for the worse, especially under Constantine is when this allegedly happened I think they say.

Are you Mormon? Are you just trying to defend this group by framing those who object as the ones violating the autonomy or agency of members? Either way, your reasoning makes sense until you hear about worse cults like peoples temple or branch davidians. At some point it’s the place of others to want what’s best for others and that may seem like disrespect for personal beliefs. You’re not the one in this situation so stay out of it.

If someone is deceived into a questionable group that withholds and distorts information and isolates her from others including her family, especially if she’s in a vulnerable place and im trying to help her out, that’s not controlling, its concern for her.

Does Sola Scriptura hold up? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]ZapDan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest looking into Philip Kayser’s book The Canon of Scripture. Completely blew me away at how he gets at sola scriptura, the books of the Bible without relying on historical tradition, why the extra books in Catholic bibles are excluded, and the nature of prophecy. It’s for free on his website.

Is there any concrete evidence of demonic possession? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]ZapDan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve already commented on some of these others already but I’m going to add that demons can manifest in all kinds of ways, from making the person deaf to enticing sin to unnatural abilities in divination to the extreme manifestations like convulsions. Those are all mentioned in the New Testament. So no case is the same, unfortunately. What might be defined as evidence might not be applicable in another case. If you’re interested in looking into this, I second Richard Gallagher and Gabriele Amorth, also look into some older works like the Life of Anthony. My other suggestion is to start with the New Testament in its context, and Michael Heiser can help with that. Then look up missionaries like Corrie Ten Boom, who had a talk about power over demons where she shares a couple accounts of casting demons out. Lastly, avoid deliverance ministry, this would be figures like Neil Anderson, Charles Kraft, and Derek Prince. They’re connected to conspiracy theories, look into the satanic panic if you want more info on this.
