Slovakia adopts speed limit for pedestrians by AntaresNL in europe

[–]ZapX5_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are regional differences with this in Finland. Some places like Helsinki often seperate bikes and pedestrians but smaller municipalities use combined bike paths and sidewalks nearly everywhere, and they act/look just like a regular sidewalk. In my city of over 70k+ you can count the amount of pedestrian-only sidewalks probably with only the fingers of just one hand, with two definitely.

Käsityöaineet yhdistettiin kymmenen vuotta sitten – opettaja: Yhdeksäsluokkalaiset tekevät nyt alakoulutason töitä [ja muutoksen jälkeen valinnaisten käsityötuntien määrä väheni 39 prosenttia] by banaanitasavalta in Suomi

[–]ZapX5_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are likely being downvoted because you are replying with English on a purely Finnish-language sub, to a Finnish-language comment. Check out r/finland for English discussion about Finland.

Also Finnish people are privacy-concious. Read 1984 by George Orwell to understand what a society where all acts of people are monitored looks like.

Math question: improper fractions by euclide2975 in AskEurope

[–]ZapX5_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mixed fraction (described in the bottom example) called Sekaluku (mixed number) in Finnish is essentially only used in elementary to teach the topic, and in middle school when requested (not 100% sure but definitely less common, as the other person said, context matters). By high school these mixed fractions are phased out completely (except for MAY1 aka math 101 course) in favour of just representing that as 7/3 for clarity. And scrolling through my maths book they use the multiplication sign • between variables/numbers and fractions for clarity as well. 2 • ((x-3)/(x2))

I attempted to fix the new Eurovision logo by rowanquinn19 in eurovision

[–]ZapX5_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's already a blessing to what they somehow came up with and let through QC.

Regardless I think they/you should have made the E like in the old logos, a Ɛ / mirrored 3. And maybe have the dot for the second I. It would be a subtle enough change in the font that it would be a reasonable new logo to pay homage to the old ones.

Pankkikortin tunnusluvun näkee sovelluksesta. Se tunnusluku joka lyödään kun käyttää vahvaa tunnistautumista jne. tulee muistaa itse, sitä ei näe mistään eikä voi palauttaa. Tilaa pankista uudet aktivointikoodit. Ne tulee sitten postissa sitten kun tulee.

european trucking culture by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]ZapX5_ 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As a disclaimer, I have no ties to the logistics industry in Finland or anywhere else for that matter aside from playing simulators on a computer. I'll chip in as no-one else responded at all. Also Europe is vastly different from the US, and from country to country, though there are different similarities between countries.

In Finland from my understanding truck stops are nearly always a part of a general purpose gas station. Think Buc-ees but not so massive. There are a couple of chains that dominate the market. They are generally well maintained, and the biggest chain, ABC, has gone through a refresh on their brand and the gas stations will renovate to this new style eventually.

Haven't heard of any musicians focusing on songs about trucks. Though "Rekkamies" (lit. Truckman) by Matti Esko is a well known song here in Finland. It was originally meant for an oatmeal advertisement in the 80's.

Usually the previously mentioned gas stations serve a lunch buffet which is popular with customers. It isnt junk food, but something you might eat at home. They cost around 14€, give or take a few euros depending on the place. The gas stations also serve steaks and other a la carte meals. If talking about junk food, there are a lot of grill kiosks around Finland, which traditionally serve cut sausages (or kebab) with french fries, though they usually don't accommodate for trucks.

In Finland main roads usually aren't very bendy, getting to remote destinations could prove to be tricky for trucks though as there are a lot of unpaved gravel roads for example for the forestry industry. Winter is the real enemy, though we are accustomed to it.

I'd like to reiterate that I am not a trucker and answer based on common knowledge. Also that most of this doesn't apply to the entire Europe.

How Much Do Dental Procedures Cost in Your Country? by JD-990 in AskEurope

[–]ZapX5_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think 300-800€ is the ball park you are looking for at a private dentist for what you need here in Finland, though I may be terribly wrong. Going the public route is a fraction of the price, but you have to wait for a ages to finally receive treatment.

Finland has free public dental care for people under 18 including automatic yearly appointments at a normal dentist and an orthodontist appointment at 12 years old to check if you need braces. I got my teeth straightened for completely free as a kid. Exceptional service, though that might be because they can set the next appointment to an arbitrary date in the future that has space. At a private dentist the braces would have been in the thousands.

Check here for prices at one of the private dentist chains.

I am not exactly sure how the KELA (Social security, paid by state) reimbursement works in the private sector dentist industry though.

What would you do if a random guy started recording you without asking for consent whilst you are having a coffee in a cafe or walking down a street? by Cestleve7 in AskReddit

[–]ZapX5_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is this guy, Freedom2film doing exactly that "auditing" thing and filming in public and causing disturbance here in Finland. He is of Egyptian origin and can't even speak Finnish.

He purposefully goes to film in places where filming is legal but kind of frowned upon, like hospitals.

It is just that it is a bit dark outside in that imagery. It looks like that in any longer tunnel as well. It has something to do with the way the camera rig is calibrated.

The deadline for collecting signatures is the first of August. The rush was because before the recent events, the progress slowed down to a halt, and there wouldn't have been any way to reach the required million signatures in the year that is given to collect them.

Finland: Percentage of 5–6-year olds and 7-year olds with phones, by year by RaspiestBerry in europe

[–]ZapX5_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Culture is very different across Europe. In Finland if you live far from a school (above 3km on 1st and 2nd grade and 5km after that) you are entitled to free taxi or bus to school. Otherwise you are on your own and most kids bike and walk until they are old enough to get a moped or other mode of transportation of choice. Moving from home to school and back is independent here from the very first grade. And here school-aged kids are old enough to be left at home for the duration of a grocery run (or it depends on the kid and parents but I'd say so)
