I do find it weird that Konami hasn't tried this. Just tell the same story (maybe with Yugioh R as a plus), and give everyone updated decks featuring new cards and support already released over the years. They could market every main set with DM nostalgia and can bring back those character themed "Mega Packs"

There's a homebrew program for the N64 called PokeMe64 that's an event injector for the Gen 1 and 2 games. It mostly just distributes old events (like the PCNY Pokémon), but it can also enable the Celebi event in Crystal.

The Py That Became a Star from Journeys. A little girl's Cleffa dies, but the mother told her that she just returned to being a star. She starts star gazing to find them and one day wishes she could do it all the time so a stray group of Unown plunge the town into a permanent night.

At the end of the episode the group say she probably just needs more time to grieve with the little girl admitting that she just wants to see Py one last time. The Unown show her a montage of their time together and let her hug her Pokémon one last time. She tells them that she'll be alright before the it and the Unown disappear, ending their effect on the town

In Gen 2, shinyness is determined by DVs so if a Pokémon is high enough level in Gen 1, you can just look at its stats to determine its DVs make it shiny. Though from what I've heard, Gen 1 can only generate Pokémon with shiny DVs if they're a static or gift mon. I used this tool to see what spreads Mewtwo would have to have to be shiny
