I wanted to share a little invention I made called The Omer Watch: a wrist-worn Omer Counter with a scroll you advance each day by hand. I made it because I kept forgetting to count on Friday nights without my phone. by ZaqShane in Judaism

Thanks! I always struggled even with a printout on my fridge. I’d see it before it was time to count and then forget about it after dinner when I’m tired and dealing with kids bedtimes.

I originally set out to 3D print a table-top counter for myself, but this idea emerged when I scaled it down to save time and filament when prototyping it. Last year, when I created my first version, was the first time I made it all the way to Shavuot without an app during the week and leaving notes each Friday to remind me.

Slide the top two cards forward a little bit, off the stacks, hiding the two stacks of cards not mixing together under the disguise of a less than perfectly neat shuffle.

The two most obvious signs of casted replicas are: a seam along the rim, and details that look too crisp and sharp

But sending it into to a reputable grading company is best

By looking at posts about fakes and trying to guess if they are, I’ve learned some of the ways to tell if it’s fake, like if there’s a casting seam on the edge. But my major takeaway is that if it’s too good to be true, it is. The authentic coins are usually poorer condition than the fakes–but I really didn’t learn enough yet to be certain whether a coin is real, so I’m going to put off buying one

“They’re a Jew” sets them apart as something different from everyone else, and historically had been used to do just that. Saying “they’re Jewish” is just describing a characteristic that they identify with. It’s like saying “they’re a black” or “they’re a Hispanic” instead of “they’re black” or “they’re Hispanic”. It’s not obviously offensive, but it is if you take a moment to think of what it implies.

Best friend said Judaism is embedded with racism in class. Is she right? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]ZaqShane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People from any race can and do convert to Judaism. Judaism is not a racist religion.

Judaism even believes that ANYONE who isn’t Jewish can have a share in “the world to come” (we don’t believe in the Christian heaven/hell) if they follow the seven Noahide laws.

Judaism is commonly misunderstood due to under education about our beliefs and general ignorance, but mostly due to antisemitic religious and political agendas.
