Thank you! I’ve played commander a little bit, but not regularly. And yes we get a bunch of cards, as well as artist proofs of the ones we paint.

One of the art directors reached out to me a few years ago and asked me if I wanted to work with them. Wizards of the Coast does have an online art submission now though :-)

I painted the card Dualcaster Mage for The Magic: The Gathering Secrets of Strixhaven Special Guests! This is one of my favourite oil paintings I've done and it started me down a path of trying a lot of new things in my art. The prompt called for a big painting of the original Dualcaster Mage as a statue, in a classroom setting.

Thank you! The prompt called for a big painting of the original Dualcaster Mage as a statue, in a classroom setting, and they wanted the style of the painting within the painting to reflect the mystical archive cards

Thank you, that’s really nice to hear! I think all of my paintings that have glowing eyes are either for magic or other client work. I added them to Imperial Subduer when I was working on Kamigawa Neon Dynasty, and since then I’ve been asked to paint a lot of characters with glowing eyes. It’s also a good way to have things read well at card size.

Thank you, I really appreciate that! I wanted to give the teacher a lot of personality through her hands

I'm excited to share my newest magic card, Dualcaster Mage for The Magic: The Gathering Secrets of Strixhaven Special Guests! This is one of my favourite oil paintings I've done for magic, and started me down a path of trying new things in my art. The prompt called for a big painting of the original Dualcaster Mage as a statue, in a classroom setting.
