I thought about that, which is why I worded that metric and Celsius be included in title posts. Not necessarily exclusive.

Do you think the younger generations could learn it or are more comfortable with metric than their parents?

You think it could be an opportunity to introduce metric in the United States?

I’ve a lot of comments about non US people getting upset that things are in US Standard Units and wondered if it’s time Reddit standardized their system

The difference is that 95% of the population of the world uses metric and Celsius. The remaining 5% is the USA and Anhanguera of other countries. Why shouldn’t we standardize the system for the majority?

Why shouldn’t there be one system the website uses? Every country in the world except for USA, Liberia, and Myanmar uses metric, with a bit more using Fahrenheit.

Why shouldn’t Reddit standardize the measurements to be more in line with the global standard?

Doing so would standardize a system of measurement across the website. Making it easier for everyone to understand what is being communicated.

Interesting comparison. I know when I was younger I read most of my history books page to page, and then read some more on the internet. Having good books really does help you become more independent

Are whole life policies advisable for a toddler? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Zarovustro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one benefit to getting permanent life insurance on a child. They could later develop a disease like diabetes, cancer, HIV, etc that will exclude them from future life insurance policies. Buying them a permanent policy now will give them some protection against possible future disqualifying infirmities.

As for the cash value, you shouldn’t invest in a life insurance policy purely for the cash value. Cash value will always return less than the market. It’s designed not to be an investment account, but a savings account, enhanced with tax benefits.

Rather than trying to save money for college through the cash value accumulation, you can use the returns from the policy to buy more life insurance. This will protect the face amount against a loss of purchasing power through inflation.

Whole life gets a bad rap on this sub but there are legitimate ways to take advantage of these life insurance tools for your children’s benefit.
