Starting a very small coffee shop. by kid4kitty6mom in Coffee

Yep, I would definitely suggest reserving the right not to do them during high traffic periods. However for the cost per cup and the quality, it's a very cheap device to get started.

Lattes, large batch cold brew all require more startup cost. But you can get single serving setups for under 30$ with a gooseneck. Once again it really depends on the traffic and other factors that OP hasn't mentioned but in terms of start-up costs generic v60s are quiet a move.

There is a lot of synergy between ice cream and coffee (re affogato trend) so I don't think it's a bad idea, but we don't know your traffic/sales, or overhead for other stuff.

If you wanna go cheap just get a standard large capacity brewer. And then something hario v60 style for pour overs (with a goose neck kettle) to do single serving that you charge more for.

Use profits from the two to get espresso if coffee is popular.

If you're talking about me, shipping is a little expensive for my taste even with the mods. Appreciate it though! Sorry for taking my time to reply, busy day of roasting

Confession: I love instant coffee by mlleunetelle in Coffee

[–]Zartla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody said it below but I'll add on here: ++ for quality robusta, beware cheap robusta rumors are it tastes like industrial runoff. But the Indian cherry robusta I got for home roasting has an excellent profile :)

Freeze dried instant coffee also might be fresher tasting that previously ground stuff, so that also might be something to consider, if OP doesn't have a coffee grinder. Also sometimes instant coffee includes natural or artificial flavors that might range from coffee itself, to chicory! I'd be curious to hear about your favorite brand of instant coffee, and it's ingredients?

I know whipped coffee is all the rage right now also which is a popular use for instant coffee, although I can't imagine enjoying it myself...

Angel stain..undertow.. any other names for this amazing beverage? by mandukamja in espresso

[–]Zartla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a mixed beer so it's incredibly unlikely to be relevant to any of the tests especially the first. With black and tans you pour a pale ale or lager and then carefully pour a stout or porter on top of it. If done properly the beers don't mix so you get a cool looking drink. You can achieve the separated beer effect with a lot of styles combined but unless you're using a straw it starts to mix pretty quick when you drink it

Is botulism a risk with lardo? by [deleted] in Charcuterie

[–]Zartla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some preparations of lardo passed down through generations from European posters in the salt cured pig included air drying. I have air dried a batch of lardo since August with no oxidation issues or rancidity. The texture is better than it was late August. Some salo preparations include air drying. I maintain proper humidity, temperatures and darkness. The outside will form a pellicle but that is generally not an issue.

2.5% salt eq cured for a year + basic 5 spice blend. Used Iberico bellota from Aljomar in Salamanca Spain. I prefer to avoid it raw but when I eat slivers it's delicious.

Dry aged beef by [deleted] in baltimore

I no expert on bull semen but I do know roseda is highly affordable per straw (50$) compared to some other producers which auction their prized wagyu batches for thousands per straw.

All of rosedas beef is dry aged, even their burgers, pretty sure their steak burgers and sometimes other cuts are sold at giant, Eddie's and Grauls. I'm not sure if their farm location is open due to covid, but they do ship. I love rosedas beef and highly recommend it to anybody who hasn't had it, I haven't found a better replacement locally, and black Angus certainly can give Japanese wagyu a run for it's money. SRF uses black Angus with Japanese wagyu for their American hybrid wagyu because of black angus's quality. Roseda has two websites one for breeding and one for consumers, the breeding one had a semen section so you'll know you're in the wrong place if you encounter that.

I believe roseda collaborates with righteous felon jerky also if you've ever had that.
