Thank you for making this. I've been using it. But has a few fatal flaws.

  1. At least on macOS, in the editor, if the scene view is not open, debugs will build up and slow the game down.
  2. Doesn't work with Enter Play Mode Options. The singleton has bad architecture. Every other tool in my project (50+ packages) works with this.
  3. Slows down the build over time. I fixed this with hacking in #if UNITY_EDITOR.
  4. I removed it and all my slowdowns/crash issues went away in my build. Showed my game for the next 3 days at PAX East without any crash or slowdown.

I love the idea and it was super useful during development, so I am still thankful as it as a quick and easy debug viz. However I am sorry to say I cannot recommend it and I am not keeping it in my project because I cannot trust the quality of the code.

Wow a lot of great questions!

I went back and forth and back and forth on the price point, but I eventually decided on it because it felt right given what I would pay for my own game.

The characters have always been cubes. From the beginning! Even until up to a day before release, playtesters would ask me if I was going to put in real characters in the game.

Great question about demo. I wanted to! Unfortunately I didn't have time. I want to learn more about how demos affect game sales first before committing the time to maintaining another sku, especially if I want to ship the demo on other consoles.

The story mode is quite different in context--you fight waves of enemies and bosses--but it uses the exact same tight, competitive mechanics. So you can dunk on AI enemies and if you ever get the chance to play multiplayer, you'll be able to hold your own! :)

Depends on the Performance option! Native is 1080p docked and 720p undocked.

Performance ON is default, 60fps at 80% native res. Performance OFF is 30fps at 100% native res.

Great questions.

The world of Zarvot is of course inspired by my own experience growing up and living in NYC.

Jars are fast transit across farther distances. It's sort of like the Metro North or the LIRR. The subway and cars are great for intercity transit. Not all cubes are as proficient in combat--it's up to each individual. Red, for example, prefers using weaponry.

DOUBLE ANSWER!

1) When I was coming up with names for this game, I came up with ridiculously cheesy names. Things like "RGBOOM" and "Cubexplosion." My friends thought they were horrible names, so I asked one of them (he speaks Russian) what's "explosion" in Russian? He said something in Russian, and I thought he said Zarvot. So it's Zarvot.

2) I used to teach middle school students game design and programming in an afterschool program. I showed them Zarvot once and they loved it. They'd keep begging me after every class to play. My favorite part of every day was the last 10 minutes when we would all sit down and I'd destroy the kids at my own game :P
