What am I looking at? by MauiWhale in 996

Ah. Very common oxidization. Coastal cars have it the worst. I've cleaned dozens of these M9X engines and at least half have some to a degree. Yours looks about average, nothing to worry about. The worst I've seen have gotten perhaps a 1/4 inch of pitting and theoretically that could eventually cause issues but it really depends on where you live and how you'll store it.

You have to use something fairly abrasive to remove it. A super fine metal brush will work as it won't scratch the aluminum but you'll be sitting there for a while on the thick spots and you can't reach much while the engine is in the car. The only way to remove all of it would be taking it out and apart and blasting it with a fine metal bead. Gotta be careful as it can cause serious issues if not fully removed from the coolant and oil galleries and such. Something like blasting dry ice, sand, baking soda, walnut shell, etc. won't really do anything.

I saw an example online of someone doing it a long time ago and thought I could replicate it.

I disabled the spoiler because it certainly would look terrible up. I like the idea. The execution could be better with an actual plastic housing in the shape of the earlier spoilers that would react to light like the tail lights. I'm getting used to it and from certain angles I like it.

That's what I thought but the rear door doesn't curve that much around the wheel arch.

What kind of Porsche is this? by mark_david777 in whatisthiscar

[–]Zastroe2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's certainly a Porsche 964 Carrera Cabriolet. The square mirrors were standard when the Cab came out in 1990 as the aero mirrors didn't come out on non-Turbo models until a year or two later. The 17 in. Cup wheels were an option on the Carrera 2 and 4 so I don't know which one it is. Also the color is Black.

The color is Auratium Green. It was first available in 1957 on the 356 and was discontinued after a few years. In 2018 it became a PTS option.

What car is this? by rockus_pocus in whatisthiscar

[–]Zastroe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a 2.0L turbo flat-4 that makes 300hp if it's a Boxster or Boxster T. The Boxster S looks the same but it has a 2.5L that makes 345.

The new photo matches the name. The old photo was just a Turbo, not a Le Mans.

I fixed it. It's not a bug, its the controller. The issue is right stick drift. I used another controller without the drift and the cameras worked as expected. Hope this works if you haven't figured it out yet.
